- In this video I will be sharing my evening imaging the Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) that is currently flying past earth continuing its 50,000 year orbit. This is the first part of two videos where I show the capture of the Comet and then the processing of the comet in part 2.

I've had a lot of attempts at finding the comet. So we'll done. I'm going to go more 'wide field' next time.
What’s your setup?
@astrojourneyuk I was using my Meade LX90 8inch SCT with planetary camera. . too much magnification. I'll use my Sky-watcher ED50 next time. Hopefully if the sky clears over the west mids. 😄
It does sound like quite a bit of magnification. My setup (can’t remember if I said) was a 250mm refractor and 183MC Pro camera which is a smaller sensor but not a planetary sensor.
Good luck!
I haven't seen one star in 3 or 4 weeks. This morning it's finally sunny, but the sky is smearing with clouds again and tonight it's gonna be 100% cloudy again. I'll probably only see it digital 😅
It’s so frustrating when that happens isn’t it. :( I hope it clears up soon for you but now the moon is coming back to full strength again. :(
A great shot, sir. I like your style of presenting ~ good, pertinent information, succinctly delivered in a manner I enjoy and find easy to listen to.
I really please to hear you like the video and style. To be honest I still think I can massively improve things and that’s my plan for the year ahead. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Thanks for this. Being new (since November 2022) to this hobby, I just discovered the comet capability of ASIAIR Plus but the YT instructional vids for a similar rig are and few a far at least in my searches. Looking forward to your Pixinsight "how to". processing of a comet also.
I hope your Astro journey is going well so far. So much fun, blood sweat and tears ahead for you. :)
Cool
Thanks!
Nice shot I did try nabbing one last year but stacking became a nightmare so I've not tried for this one yet.
Stacking didn’t seem too much on an issue for my first one. Maybe I got lucky.
It moved at speed 12arcseq minutes at the beginning of February. You are right. Your scope should have exposure of 30” no more to get crisp details. I used 15 sec each RGB and 5 sec Lum. Processing was nightmare.
It certainly was a bit of a pain, I didn't manage to capture the tail for some reason though which was annoying, unless it was the processing approach. I think comets catch a lot of photographers out.
Great video Marc! Nice image of Comet C2022 E3 ZTF (as you say, a catchy name!) I was wondering about having a go myself at this target, I see you used your ED80 at 600mm! I was worrying about using my Askar 400! But your image came out very nice at 600mm👍 I had thought about using my Redcat 51, that would mean it would appear for longer in the field of view before having to realign! How long was it before you had to realign with your 600? Cheers Marc
Clear skies!
Sorry I might have confused things in the video. I added a clip where I used the 80ED Pro scope but the image was with the RedCat. However, the field of view of the 80ED with the 2600MM Pro and RedCat51 with the 183 is quite similar.
@@astrojourneyuk Ok, as you say the field of view is similar to the redcat, did you have to change the view to keep the comet in the frame?
Fortunately not. The ASIAIR framing is initially dead centre for the comet and over and hour it’s still well within the frame. Really I should have reframed I think but it’s a crop top of the main image.
Do you see it green through a telescope? I've tried to watch it with my 127 mm Newtonian, but the last couple of days was cloudy, so it was impossible.
I’m afraid I haven’t yet had a look visually and I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance now. 😢 From what I remember of visual astronomy and I’ve only done it a few times is the colours are never as vivid as the photographs. It would be cool to see though.
@@astrojourneyuk I get what you mean. Living in UK is like one of worse places for visual in Europe. Those cloudy nights and light polution, sometimes is so frustrating. I used to live in Gloucestershire for nearly 2 years and most of the time my scope was just getting dust in the garage. Sometimes I feel bad about my fellow gazers living in Western Europe, reading their comment about the weather and how hard it is to fing places with dark skies. Best of luck and clear skies.
I agree, the UK is small and densely populated apart from Scotland and Wales and so light pollution is always going to be an issue. :(
