Thank you this is what you really wear to the opera by people who actually go to the opera. Obv you can wear whatever you like but if you turn up in a skimpy prom dress you are going to feel weird.
Just because it’s fancy place doesn’t always mean you have to wear a suit and fancy dresses🙂

I would never wear jeans or shorts to the opera. Tacky and disrepectful.
Thank you. I’ve seen people in track suits and shorts and then they try to qualify it by saying they’ve paid for the tickets so they’ll dress as they like. Dress appropriately.
The point is they are trying to open up the opera house to all and shake off an elitist image. People should wear what they want, sit back and enjoy, while feeling comfortable. It does not detract from the performance or disrupt others. Its the people who disrupt performances by phones, chatting and munching who are truly disrespectful.
The whole point of this short was to encourage people to where what they are comfortable wearing. As there is no rule about what to wear, wearing jeans and shorts is not disrespectful at this venue. You can wear what you feel comfortable wearing without casting judgement on others- which is truly disrespectful.
