I agree, I agree, I agree. It is a mark of respect to the performers and to the house to wear something formal. At the XXth century, many women wore long dresses and men black tie. But you will not be kicked down the main stairs if you wear those old dirty jeans and tee-shirt, in that case, you should be decent enough for going to the gallery and upwards.

Jealous. We also dress up for the Downtown Los Angeles Opera too. But not as old style Operahouses in Vienna. Would love to see that since I grew up on Mozart.

I live in Taiwan by the way. My husband and I will go to an opera in Vienna in April. It will be our second time to the opera house but first time seeing an opera there.
Any longer dress or skirt would be nice. I also take the öffis. In winter I would wear stockings though, cause it’s just too cold outside 😅 also, I usually wear flats and bring along heels, and change my shoes before I enter the opera ☺️🥰
This really depends on the cutting and how much skin it shows. You can always wear something to cover your shoulders and cleavage. Even some silk scarf would do 😉

Two weeks ago, I was in Vienna where I stayed a week. I wanted to go to an opera but tickets were sold out.
Tickets usually sell out pretty fast. You have to buy them early in advance. Hope you enjoyed Vienna!

Also, blacks always work. It doesn’t have to be faux fur or anything too fancy. But black usually looks elegant.
