I originally was a light duty technician at a independent shop I went to community college too then I got my CDL and got on with a municipality as a fleet mechanic but I did thought of driving trucks but I wanted to work on them so I stayed with the fleet department for a city municipality because it’s stable decent pay and actually has a decent retirement.
Im quitting driving today and going to start my own repair/rebuild business. No formal training but a hell of a lot of experience from working on my own stuff.
The thing I wish that some of those shady businesses would realize is that people inevitably don't mind paying big bucks for a service if they know that the work is going to be done right, and if they know that they're not going to be ripped-off
Thank you Ryan, for the plethora of information you’ve put out here just out of kindness and consideration for those who are newer to the industry. Know that your work doesn’t go unappreciated🙏🏻
cool video man my name is benny and just started to work in a mechanic trailer shop and your videos helps so much i hope one day i have my own shop too and will teach other people too thank u

Thank you Ryan good advice to the younger mechanics. Learning from older gentleman an knowing tricks on trucks or heavy equipment / different kinds of trailer . Inboard or outboard brakes / drums or disc . Lots of money being a diesel mechanic on tools , box or scanners so much more . Looks like you got a lot of none def trucks easier to work on. Out here Cali with all the dpf/ scr filters / more
I’m 40 and decided to turn wrenches 3.5 years ago. At first I thought I made a bad choice. It had been 15 since I really was turning wrenches at all. My first teacher was terrible. My second teacher was AMAZING!! Like you said, show up with some knowledge and a great work ethic and a want to learn and skys the limit with the right teacher!
Thanks man for the knowledge..Saving up for my own truck now to be a owner operator.Been driving company for 10 yrs.Want to fix my own truck when I get it
Well neighbor, nice video. Very nice to see you and your family. Still very happy for you guys. I’m still struggling here at Schneider SFI.. seems I have nothing but bad weeks since my Covid… I still pound it out every week… just luck is not with me.. every time I have a great week booked out, bad luck shuts it down… take this week. Over $5200 for 4 days work, and now it’s looking like a rush or not possible.. not because of me.. you know and everyone else trucking knows…
Dam what a team you guys are Ryan.! And I didn’t know you were in the Navy brother thank you for your service.! I myself was a builder in the reserves and I was aviation active duty man.!! Cheers from the Houston area….😎🤘🏽

What's your opinion on a automated eaton fuller transmission for 2007? Anything I need to look out for? I'm looking at a used 2007 vnm with that transmission. I have one with eaton manual 10 speed, runs great. Thanks, love the variety of videos and topics!
Do you include noncompete clauses when you hire new/inexperienced techs? WSJ recently had something on it and I had feelings from both employee and employer standpoint. Curious about your perspective.
thanks for the vids, i asked many machanic no one can give a right answer maybe you can, 2016 cascadia my passenger side rear drives air bags inflates higher than the driver side, i changed the leveling valve. driver side height is 2 3/8. passenger side almost 3 1/2 inch. any idea whats going on
Driving sucks i dont know why anyone would go from diesel mechanic to being a truck driver lol. I drove for s couple years it was soo boring i had to quit. It fealt like a waste of life. I wanted to learn new skills. Did construction for a while but im wanting to start as a diesel tech.
Hi Ryan. I am a 3rd year apprentice mechanic. I worked in trucks in my first 2 years and recently switched to equipment. I want to open my shop in the future like you. Do you recommend specializing in trucks rather than working on any equipment?
We started our business by offering service for all equipment. Because you need customers. After a while, you should specialize in one area. The more focused your business is, the higher the quality of your work would be. You will get quality customer as well
Great job for the Family and support each other because the strongly u keep the efforts then will pay off for both of u . I like the channel and I am also getting into the mechanics turn wrench since I was kid. But I also like to explore the ownership of truck operations and fix my self the problem / because. The challenge and I will try to push my wife to the broker revenue cause. I think that is the place I want her to take if she wants help me . Rental trailers its also part of my goal cause not manny truckers have chance to start with truck and trailers so lease that equipment its more. Proficiency then to have driver ont semi not carrying for the equipment and constant maintenance its required on truck not much in trailers.

What trade school did you go to? And I’m looking to do jobs on side but I’m not sure how to price the jobs I want to present
how often do “things go bad” with customers?
not often, but as a business, concentration is always a concern.

Simple. Have to be born with a silver wrench in your hand.
I think everyone can be a mechanic, but not everyone is born to be a good mechanic.
ONLY BECOME A MECHANIC IF IT`S YOUR PASSION I DID , but between the cost of tools i would not recommend it, i steered away my kids from being one.
