ITs funny I put on my Discover Weekly playist on in Spotify and heard Nothing Left to lose bout a month ago. I have preceded to listen to everything Wipers and read EVERY interview and look at every picture. And now I reckon I'm obsessed. I just wanna meet the guy
Jack Rabid, raving about the Wipers in THE BIG TAKEOVER, did actually say that they, and especially the title track from YOUTH OF AMERICA, did have a kind of punk-rock Hendrix vibe.
@@StripeGurger The very first time I heard When Its Over I immediately I knew I found one of the best songs I'll ever hear and keep listening to. Along with this song. I can't wait for the recent vinyl pressing of this album to arrive!
Playing the Wipers in the car with my 19 year old daughter riding along...when its over, can this be?, Nothing left to lose, different ways, Romeo.....and I had the luck to see them at the paradise in boston winter 1989.....powerful.
this song has a power that carries on through the years. It just never fades. I'm glad I found out about them in the late 80s, and finally heard them early 90s. His use of tape echo and feedback created soundscapes, like being sucked into subway tunnels and out into another dimension of time and space before being returned to reality. It's up there with "I Don't Live Today" and "Third Stone from the Sun," or "If Six was Nine." I liked the Alan Vega yelps on this song and the Ian Curtis/Joy Division tone of "Pushing the Extreme." Sage has a unique playing style you never hear elsewhere. Quite jazz influenced at times. Reminds me a little of Eric Bell of Thin Lizzy, who could turn out a truly adventurous guitar solo, like on "The Rocker." He flies on that one, verging on atonality and noise. I hear a lot of the Wipers in Voivod, circa "Angel Rat" and "Nothingface."
I feel SO blessed to have been in three of their shows in Greece! He is a monumental figure in punk rock and certainly the best guitarist that came out of this genre...
Man…there’s something about this performance. This may be the most stripped down and vulnerable and open version of greg Sage that we’ll ever get to see. I mean sure, he’s always done his little intros/preambles to the crowd, words of advice. But this one is different, it has a very avant garde/spoken word vibe to it. Lots of added lyrics and solos.
my total music hero, ever present influence to make my stuff. I always wonder what is Greg doing at the present time. Thanks to bring this up, is a jewel. Very little of Wipers live performances out there
darumaeye yeah, I probably expected that as an answer. But wasn’t this some sort of festival and other bands also performed ?hence my concern of how many Wipers songs could have been played.

Greg foi genial. Eu queria participar dessa cena suja, destruída do Punk de Portland. E o engraçado, Napalm Beach apesar de ser muito menos conhecido, tem mais vídeos de performances ao vivo nessa época do que os admiráveis Wipers.
he lives in phoenix arizona now and according to his brother he takes care of dogs. someone who interviewed him a few times back in the day theorized that when cd's took over vinyl and vinyl died in popularity, he lost his inspiration and create and release new music, because the thing that really inspired him to create music in the first place was the grooves that sound waves implanted into vinyl records.
Last time they played live as a band was the late 90’s sometime I think. Sage stormed off stage apparently unsatisfied with the sound from the hired Marshall amp he was using. Ever the stoic...

Jimi on speed.
I saw them in the early 90"s in RODON Athens. What a mystic and wonderful night it was...Greg Sage.....respect....
No other band like Wipers.
No place to go, no place to go..
So many downstrokes in his guitar playing...it's a style that gives everything a sense of urgency. Reminds me of Joe Strummer in that regard.
"When It's Over" is like the perfect example of this.
You can't really play guitar any other way..though my ideal is that anyone can play guitar.
Go way way back. Carl Wilson, The Beach Boys... not the Beatles. Surf music. "Wipe Out" 😎
punk music equals downstroke
