in such context it's also very handy to create BASS folder with bass tracks, so the balance between those 2 tracks won't mess when mixing whole bass along the rest of the instruments in the mix :)
It's an excellent video. Very clear, very watchable. Obviously I'm not cut out for long stints in studios. The first thought I had was "Never mind the bassist, shoot the drummer". Quickly followed by "Why not shoot the lot of them?" I'M HERE TO TELL YOU - Four blokes and a drumkit is a dead duck. The hardest thing to find are decent songs and good singers are "Once in a lifetime". No matter how much engineering and mixing goes into this song it has no energy. Nothing that made it worth anyone's time. IMHO of course. Far be it from me etc BUT......there is a gap here and it concerns dynamics - not of the studio but of typical repertoire. What happens when everything drops out except the bass, then joined by the singer and the drums....last of all? What happens if an arranger orchestrates, punctuates material rather than the typical rock-democracy mistake of "everybody plays at the same time - just because they are there with tape to fill?" But it's a good video about mixing bass. Even I can understand that. Thank you. This is Mr. Gioia and he always does good stuff.
Hiya, Kenny an another fantastic video - just what I needed, when I needed it -thank you! Could I please ask how I get the fat db readout to the right of each track panel (like you have in this video), along with the mute, solo and phase buttons? I don’t know if this is something. iVe messed up with a theme, or if I’m missing a setting? I’ve tried all the ‘meter’ options I get when right clicking in the track left hand panel and they all give me skinny options where I can’t see the db numbers? Thank you for any help you can give!
"Bass D" has a lot of hissing noise, why didn't cut all the higher frequency out? Also there is a "blend" pot so probably you don't need to create two tracks?
Thanks for posting this Kenny. As a rock bass player I am not really into their distorted sound but I can understand how it might work in some cases. Is there a bass amp VST that you can recommend? What order would you put the EQ and the compressor in if you're also using an amp simulator? Thanks im advance?
Def an important video for me today~! But wouldn't you want to do a "Safety Cut" < 30 dB or so, so as to not introduce mud? Or maybe take care of it on the Master track? Doubling the Bass as you've got it is a good technique in any case.
can you make a video or do you have a video about where to pan instruments in songs. i like having a straight left and straight right guitar because it sounds good to me on headphones but find that they become muddy on phone speakers
Will duplicating the bass track cause any phase issues at all? Thanks. Great video Kenny.
Рік тому+2
Since thetracks are identical, this should not be the case (peaks will add, boosting the volume), unless you flip polarity or nudge the waveform of one of the tracks!
Awesome video! How do you achieve such a great result with just a few simple steps? I have a question though: how do you bring up mixers for the selected tracks? What's the keystroke?
Kenny, please address the issues Glenn Fricker from Spectre Sound Studios encountered with REAPER!! PLEASE REAPER has numerous problems with "clicks" and the inability to read data from 3rd parties!
I cannot for the life of me get the VST plugin for TSE BOD to work. I notice it says the OS is Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8. Is this why I can't get it to work?
To be honest, I hear a bit too much low end adding up from Kick, Bass and Tom tracks... am I the only one? Maybe I would have cut (or shelved off) a bit from the toms and maybe the bass itself, especially the distorted track which doesn't need it at all...
Great vids and all, but this kind of music is a breeze to produce compared to heavy metal, where everything is played loudly and fighting to be heard in the mix. Thats where the real challenge is.... Can you please start doing some vids on eq and mixing heavy metal music?
After mixing nearly 2000 bass covers, I'm still learning thanks to you, Kenny. Thank you!
I felt that punch in the intro. Thank you for the tutorial.
OMG That TSE BOD ! Thanks for everything man !
As a bass player who is just really getting into doing my own recording, I found this very helpful!
Really helpful video. Interesting that we boost the low end on bass instead of removing the rumble as on guitars.
Great as always Kenny! Please do a Vocal mixing series too!
Kenny never disappoints with great info. Thanks Kenny.
Some great simple ideas in there.
Why did you choose to duplicate the track instead of using a send?
or just use reaper's built-in wet/dry knob hmm...
in such context it's also very handy to create BASS folder with bass tracks, so the balance between those 2 tracks won't mess when mixing whole bass along the rest of the instruments in the mix :)
that's how I usually set it up too.

Great as all ways Kenny. Noticed in reacomp you didnt use auto makeup gain was that intentional?
Thanks Kenny. What drum library are you using? Great room sound...
The free Steven Slate one.
@@REAPERMania oh great. Thanks Kenny 🙂🙏
No grid on the items? how it is achieved. Thank you.
Thank you Kenny. Perfect timing. Needed this. 👍
great track intro!! where can I hear the whole song? thanks for the tutorial

Sans amp is supposed to be the best
At 3:06, do you mean "compresses again" or "stops compressing"? I'm a bit confused. Thanks Kenny.

the tse bod is no longer available i guess... any other suggestions?

I really needed this lesson too! Thanks Kenny!!
As always, a very helpful video Kenny!
Yep, that's pretty much it haha amazing one Kenny!! Cheers!! 🤘🏼👊🏼
Great song, too. U never disappoint 😜

I know why he has a beard .. Since recording it grows by its self hahaha .. Thanks for all the help.. You helped me a lot !
Liking this b4 I play it as I know it’ll be excellent 😂
Thanks! Very helpful!!
Nice. Thank you.
Awesome video! How do you achieve such a great result with just a few simple steps? I have a question though: how do you bring up mixers for the selected tracks? What's the keystroke?
the key stroke is up to you, it's the setup which matters, look through Kenny's earlier videos on the channel, he has a few dedicated to this setup
You know we have it...
Couldn't you just use the reaper fx mix knob on the distortion plugin?
Hey Kenny. Which midi drums are you using in this project? Love the sound
Sounds like slate drums to me you can get a free version and Kenny has a video on it somewhere.
Kenny, please address the issues Glenn Fricker from Spectre Sound Studios encountered with REAPER!! PLEASE REAPER has numerous problems with "clicks" and the inability to read data from 3rd parties!
Hey,can you please provide the link to that video?

How do you mark the different sections with colours on top of the screen? Intro/verse/...
They're called regions in Reaper. Shift + R will make one for the selected time period. Then you can right-click on it to edit name and colour etc.
@@mightyjb5261 great! - thanx for your help 👍
Good video. But, I'd add side chain between bass and drums.
What’s the red vertical lines on the track?
These are fade-outs and fade-ins between overlaping items
Just great. In a nutshell🌰🥜 Thanks very much, as always.
So,basically (pardon the pun)….the goal is to get the bass to sound like a large, soft rubber band 😊
To be honest, I hear a bit too much low end adding up from Kick, Bass and Tom tracks... am I the only one? Maybe I would have cut (or shelved off) a bit from the toms and maybe the bass itself, especially the distorted track which doesn't need it at all...

How do I remove the bass 'boom'?
High pass filter, between 80-200Hz works for me
How to avoide ringy sound bass i thought it was clipping its annoying to my ears
Nice overdrive but no Linux version.
Yabridge to the rescue! It allows using Windows plugins on Linux and it works surprisingly stable
👍
