From my reading, the vampire absolutely can wear armour and use the invocation of nehek, since it's not a spell and the vampire only counts as a level 1 wizard "for the purposes of this rule" - in other words, how many wounds it can restore which is based on your wizard level (but again, isn't a spell) - which means it doesn't make them a wizard for the purposes of any other rule.
The downside to this is that you only count as a level 1 wizard even if they're actually a wizard with a higher level normally, so your level 3 count can't restore the same as your master necromancer.
Yeah after re-reading you are correct. I skimmed that too quickly. Thatll be a handy little buff for sure.
See Runesmiths (under Dwarfs).
Great review! I think Tomb Barrow lists are going to be popular, Master Necromancer backed by wight king and lord with a Strigoi blender lord will be very strong
Skirmishers do not have to be deployed in Skirmish if they have another valid formation.
Ghouls can be deployed in Skirmish or Open Order.
👍
Vamps are still on the counter swing from 6th! Can’t make them as good as they were in that edition!
I wonder if some of these vampire special buffs stack? If so army lists could get a bit crazy. I mean, if the Mortis Engines buffs stack, you could have maybe plus 3 to casting? And plus 3 to movement to any unit in all the Mortis engines command ranges? On Corpse Charts for example, suddenly they can cast spells very well, in an army list that have some amazing spells and/or combos extremely with magic. It seems crazy strong. Does the Corpse Carts buffs stack? If the TinTin( ...) bell thingy stacks, then that is crazy.
Nice review 👌 im currently building a vamps army and a skaven army for old world, hopefully they get more support in the future 😅
Many good points and a fun video to watch. To me you guys underestimate the corpse cart a little bit: Reducing unstable, a wizard on it, combined with boosting the invocation ability potentially can be quite good, depending on what units you want to bring back of course (also, a -1 to casting for enemy wizards can be very disrupting if you take that option). Also, as a chariot it's a nice unit to support a block of skellies with a flank charge as it has impact hits and will disrupt the opponent's rank bonus.
Yeah I think in a GG infantry focused list it could definitely be a decent buff wagon. I think itd be very vulnerable to flyers/flankers but hey im sure they will be employed gainfully on the battlefield by those who build a list with them in mind.
I really don't see the use for the Mortis Engine. For a 200 points cost, you turn your level 4 necromancer-general into a charging and fighting unit with a few attacks and extra survivability.
The moment though the necromancer engages in battle, he looses all of his spells and his invocation of Nehek, while also risking completely losing the game, because if the necromancer dies, all units start taking damage and lose their regeneration.
Don't forget that Mortis Enginge is a large target, for missiles and magic.
Perfect timing! I need to write a list for these fellas!
Great show guys!
Thanks Sean.
I want a Vampire Count army for Old world.. but it's worst? being a legacy army...Thanks!
Get them anyway. I bet they'll be back in at least a 2nd edition. And by then, you'll have a full army
Doesn’t really matter. Non GW tournaments and nearly all opponents are fine with playing legacy armies. Your only real downside is not being able to play at GW events. I’m thinking of collecting Vampire Counts for my first Old World army having not played Warhammer in 20 odd years.
Initially I was let down , but it may be a dialed back game over all. I really felt deflated about how little you could do with vampire powers. Just felt like a lot of lost flavor over all. Workable but felt like much was left out of the stew.
Spot on. If the different bloodlines was someones draw card to vamps they wouldn't be too happy with the change.
Awesome content as usual 😊
Thank you 😁
Best 30-40 minutes of my life.
I’m know right haha . Time has no meaning here
Love this!
Thanks for the watch
Why isn't this in Spotify
It is, since episode 1 :) open.spotify.com/show/5OuepKex90r3A7M72OuLN4
Oh, do you mean the vampire reviews? Oh, only our podcast is on spotify, the rest you need to head to youtube to give us a view :) hahah
Interesting though, if others think we should expand these into the podcast feed let us know
@@oldworldfanatics yeah I meant the VC review specifically! I generally consume alot more on Spotify/podcast format, while commuting or painting. UA-cam won't run in background on my phone 😔
Love the content though lads keep it up
I know this has been asked for decades, but shields or great weapons for GG? 😅
let's compare the varghulf to the tomb scorpion. Well the varg doesn't even have trample and costs double.
Tomb kings get a lot of rules for free (shieldwall costs 2pts per Grave Guard). A Tomb King is for some reason stronger than a vampire lord? (stats) Why? How did he get to S5 and 4 Wounds by being dead, he isn't even magically enhanced? How does a TK have LD10 but an immortal horror only LD8?
Imo TK get too much for too little points. The tomb Scorp should cost at least 140 pts or have his killing blow nonsense moved to his tail. The Necrosphinx is about 20% too cheap as well.
This is my opinion although I mostly play Dark Elves and Bretonnia, it's just odd and the Vampire Lords seem weirdly unfinished while breaking the lore (they should be the most powerful "living" beings along with Chaos Lords and why can't they pick plate armour? So odd
however both Tomb Guard, Grave Guard and Foot Knights should have a second look (11 pts per model is too much imo)
Bloodknights S4. Pallid Handmaidens S5.. odd
Yeah they definitely took a hit. Price is down but I would of loved to see them back at strength 5.
They are weaker but you can ressurect 8 of them in one turn
@@winterh46334 true, but it just seems a bit contrary to the lore. But then again, so is ressurecting vampres as if they are zombie-equivalents so...
Vampires themselves look much weaker than they previously were. No extra attacks, no ASF and so on. Also strange that they are only LD8. Doesn't help that Zombie Dragons are one of if not the weakest dragon variant in the game.
Yeah great points made there. Vampire characters are definitely a touch down on power from previous editions. Im wondering if LD is down due to the link to the raising back models/wounds ect. Also agree the dragon is down on stats compared to chaos dragons ect, but its also a quarter cheaper in points so that makes up for it IMO.
yup, entire vampire counts as happens with all the legacy armys seems weaker than cores as khemri
@@NewyDad8076 Pretty much what you have said.
Dragons really do vary in stats now and the chaos dragon is one of the strongest and most expensive.
Comparing it to the TK one is a bit more on par.
I agree, to me vampires in general for the points they cost feel weak compared to other editions. To me vampires (at least the counts) should have had an option for full plate and leadership should be increased by 1 for both, as it now is an insulting low score.
hahah 30, 40 mins or so!!
We'll get there one day haha
Thanks guys, I had a wonderful 'Old World moment' when i raised so many zombies that I went into marching columns involuntarily and lost my rank bonus...
Broken, there I saved you time. Dance macabe is total garbage
Can you elaborate a bit more?
Wouldnt have said so. I managed to break a unit of 20 Longbeards with 30 zombies and a flanking Cairn Wraith when they got VDM buff-up to WS5 & I4... turned the battle.
