Appreciate the transparency! For any of the haters this guy just put in an insane amount of money during a pandemic and recession to many Aussie LFS and distributors. Incredible build Sam can't wait to see what finally goes in!
Good on you mate, i'm Sydney based and in the process of designing a 2000+ Litre Tank as part of a new house reno and your budget helped me confirm my own budget. Need this sort of transperancy and didn't come across as flex at all. Thanks for sharing :)
Really excited for you. It’s looking like a masterpiece already, can not wait to see it in 18 months. This is not your first road trip, you have brought huge experience with you. The monies you’ve invested come with experience of not buying cheap and having to re-purchasing again and again. Buy well buy once! It’s a big sum, but next to a fully loaded car, a boat or scuba diving around the world a few times a year, it’s well worth every cent! Love it and everyone on your channel loves it too! We’re all happy for you 👍
Brother, no need to apologize for spending your money, plus this is a dream build. You come across being a humble person that it never crossed my mind this is “flex” from you. Love the build and can’t wait to see it in a year or two. Keep up making the great videos!
Thank you for the clear disclosure. I love the hobby. In the end it's all about the passion. I hope to have a dream tank soon. I'm not a reef man nor saltwater person. So my dreams are a little different but they're still my dreams. My takes, alluminum stand, custom clear glass tank, great pumps, and very good lighting. I use Texas Holey Rock for my scape. I've added some of the same arches you use with wood as a giant root cliff scape. Enjoy!
Absolutely love the honesty and upfrontness as well, let's all understand is this is a dream build and probably the one you are going to keep forever, I would absolutely do everything you have pointed out, there's no point in scrapping on cheaper products when it's your dream tank, of course you can do it cheaper but for me it looks incredible and can't wait to see the future updates, well done Parker 👍👍
Are you trying to get me killed. I had to watch this in the middle of the night with the lights off just in case the wife woke up and saw the costs as I'm trying to get her to agree to an 8x2.5x2.5 tank. Seriously though it's a lot of money but it's your money, you have worked for it so why can't you treat yourself, it's your hobby and we all know their is no such thing as a cheap hobby. Enjoy it and keep these videos coming.👍👍👍
There is no price on happiness and doing what you love for a hobby. If you and your wife are happy with it then that's all that matters. Absolutely Beautiful tank.
Quality has a cost Sam. Like you said, it’s your dream reef and you spared no cost and your equipment is top notch. I hope you have many years of enjoyment with this epic build. 👍
I think there are not that many people out there who would share so openly on what they spent on their tanks, especially because you can expect that a lot of people will just post hateful comments because they are most likely jealous...which a part of me is too t.b.h. ;) It is your money and only you decide on what you want to spend it. Other people spend their money on cars, art or whatever. I think we are all very lucky that your are sharing your journey with us, so we all benefit from it at the end :) And spending money for something that you love and that makes you happy is never wrong! Keep up the good work, can't wait so see how your tank will evolve over time
Trying to replicate the ocean is never gonna be cheap...,but it's your money, your passion and up to you. I think it's a great well thought out system.
It's about 10x what you need to spend, so I think you'll be right :) Remember this was my "dream" tank that I had spent a lot extra on almost every component to make it a fraction better. Majority if these extras are not required at all
Hats off for sharing this information. I've been thinking about making the leap, with a 'how much it cost' video myself. Not at all comfortable to do, but is so important to share this kind of information, especially given the number of subscribers you have. I think there is still this idea that only "rich people" can have a reef tank. Most getting into the hobby have no idea, the micro decisions that are made along the way, and the dedication / passion it takes, to make such a dream possible. It's not unlike the steps that lead up to building a dream house or business. Either way, I hope folks take this information to heart. I believe it will help aspiring reefers in the planning phases leading up to their very first to eventual dream aquarium.
Totally possible to build a tank for a fraction of this price though. This is just what I wanted to spend on the particular items I wanted for this system :)
Sam, if anyone gets annoyed that’s their problem. It’s your hobby and if you have a budget and are comfortable with it, that’s all that matters. I am a little bit envious, but not in any hateful way. Your tank is superb and fair play to you. I am just glad we get to see it’s progress here on UA-cam.
I have nothing constructive or negative to say about your aquarium, if you have the chance to create your dream aquarium, do it. You did it and it is just beautiful, I dream of such a thing. I will continue to dream while watching your videos.
Hey Sam, big ups for being so upfront and honest sharing all this info with the community, that is a big investment there is no doubt, however as you rightly stated this is not a hobby to scrimp on and it is important people know what is involved, for their wallets certainly but most importantly for the well being of the animals in their care. Loving the material and all of your work!
Awesome tank Sam. Every hobby has its cheap and expensive pathway, and when it’s something you love of course you aren’t going to compromise. Well done.
I think it is important for the hobbyist new and old understand the cost associated with keeping and the commitment that is required in setting up tanks regardless of the size of the tank. Obviously you went "all in" and the result is a beautiful setup.
Not a flex at all mate, people need to stop thinking talking about money equals flexing. It’s the way people conduct them selves that differentiates between flexing and not. You’re doing us a favour for the transparency. Cheers mate.
Nothing wrong with doing what you love. If I had the money, I'd spare no expense to get the best quality fish tank build with a stunning look too. Kudos to you, brother!
It’s a weird thing in this hobby that cost is never really discussed (probably because we all hate to actually add it up lol) but this was very cool to see a build of this caliber broken down. Cheers to that.
Great video - a topic we've all wondered about. Thumbs up for the way you approached and handled this one. There will always be haters on the internet, but those of us who follow you understand and appreciate you sharing this info. Yes its a lot of money, but if its what you love doing, its all relative... That sort of money doesn't buy you much if your hobby is Motor Racing, Flying a plane (or even jumping out of a plane!), endless house renovations, or dare I say it - moving house! For a piece of living art that gives you and the family huge enjoyment over an extended period of time - money well spent I think. P.S. Love your comment about adding more snails (Thanks for not calling me out as one of the people who's probably / definitely under cooked this in my tank) - 20 turbos added over the past 2 x weeks, and more coming next week :)
Appreciate the kind words. Haha not going to call anyone out for not adding enough snails! It’s something that is easy to under-do, I am not immune to this myself!
I love this. I just setup my dream tank and saved on most of the area you mentioned but still probably gonna tally up close to you when its all said and done. simple things end up costing a lot more than you expected so this is very good video. You def lucked out on the tank price. This hobby is expensive but so is anything else like wedding or vacations. This at least brings us enjoyment for 15+ years
love it man, up front & transparent every step of the build. not many are as open about all this as you have been. loving the content & watching this setup as it grows in & evolves as it goes. there's no reason to hate 😁
Great build Sam. Well done on getting everything you wanted for your dream build. If any haters are jealous well that's their issues not yours. You have worked hard to save for what you wanted. It's great to see it's coming together as you had hoped. Enjoy all your efforts. Researching you have obviously done which makes half the build easier no doubt. It did for me. Looking forward to seeing more coral and fish in the tank. 🐠🐟🦀
Many thanks Michelle. To be honest, I've been pleasantly surprised by the lack of hate - everyone has been super supportive! You're right, put the time into planning and it will go as smoothly as possible
So much to say, I’m just gonna stick to CONGRATS! Every cent is justified, you have pushed the envelope here and I can’t wait to see the results evolve over the years. Guaranteed success and you deserve it mate!
Awesome content as always mate. Love the honesty and transparency, it’s rare these days. Whilst it’s not easy to do it is clearly one of the many reasons why you have so many subscribers.
Awesome vid, can't quite believe the cost, but like you said, it's all top notch stuff, and the satisfaction that you and your family get from it is priceless, fantastic series by the way, keep them coming, 👏👏👏👏
Thank you for putting this video out man, this provides a good port hole into the black hole of reefing. Some can pinch pennies for a reef and others could careless about pricing. All that matters is you do your research before diving into the hobby
Research is key, then being realistic with what you can achieve with your budget is vital. Too many expect a dream reef tank setup on a $5k budget, it just doesn’t happen like that 😅
Amen! I’m building a tank room right now and have budgeted 50k. People heat that number and think Im crazy. When you consider that the lights are $6k, the Reef Savvy is $5-10k and the stand $2-4k, you’re already 1/3rd of the way there. Plus, I’m doing a HVAC, running new electric from the panel, etc etc…I’ll blow past my budget in not time flat! If it’s a dream tank and it’s going to be a real project, you should go ham if you’ve got the cash
Fortunately I’m in plumbing and we do large zoo aquatic life support systems so I’ve got a good source for any plumbing and some really nice sinks and cabinets that have some out of hospital demo projects. Regardless, I’m happy to hear list real numbers for a dream build. This is my first.
Another note, I already have 5 MP40s from wheeling and dealing, plus a massive MAT commercial quality skimmer that runs off an abyzz a200 pump that one of our suppliers had sitting in their warehouse and was able to hand over to for $0 dollars. So, the industry I’m in certainly has some serious advantages for the hobby. What’s funny is how detached they all are from reefing. These are people who design and supply huge aquatic systems (sea world sized and every in between) but they don’t really know anything about hobby grade equipment and reefing in general.
God dam and I thought I was going crazy haha I’m just about at 8k on my 6 foot with out corals and fish and there is still a lot of things I should have running in the tank that I just can’t afford to get right now sold my motor bike to kick start my reefing off think it was the best thing I ever did I get hours and hours of enjoyment from the tank that I just wasn’t getting from the bike and learning many new things on the way and your videos and many other you tubers helping me every day thanks Sam for being inspirational your a legend
I have enjoyed the journey and looking forward to it continuing! Video was done well! And honeslty my words don't matter just hope you and ur family are enjoying this lifetime of a tank. Your wife is an MVP for it too!
Loved the video. Way impressed with your vision and ingenuity. Your system is well thought out and amazing. I’ve seen people spend a ton of money and their system is no where near as nice. It takes more than money for a custom tank this nice. Really enjoying your build. Thanks for sharing!
Great vid. Probably the best setup in OZ at the moment. Great job. I find newbies under estimate what this hobby costs and often go too big without realising the related costs.
This is awesome, we love your channel and watch every video, you can’t take it with you buddy spend away. The wife and I are new to the hobby and you have been a big help. Thank from the mundens (England).
Everybody's got a hobby that cost a lot. A ski boat can cost more than that. Heck an RV to go camping can cost twice that.😉. I work to live,,,,,,,, seems like I've got half that much in 108 gallons least you got five times to gallons for the price. have a good one and thanks for spreading your knowledge helping us out
I am in the middle of my first ever build... I took a LOT of inspiration from this series... ask me about my stand up desk light rack; mine is mounted to the wall not the stand. I have a tab on a spreadsheet with my estimated costs; and then another tab for actual cost. I try not to look at that tab. LOL
@@ParkersReef don’t worry about the 1% haters there just jealous ,, uv spent ur hard earned money u know what ur doing ur not a sponsored guy and hide it like others on the platform u just sit bk and enjoy ur tank and what you have achieved and created all the best luck mate keep the vids coming
I called Waterbox for a quote on a 6x3 tank and they told me they don't custom build tanks. You're very lucky they did for you and at that price, amazing deal!!
I respect your passion and intrest u have for dream tank .. money doesn't matter when achiving dreams if u can afford it do it......ur lucky u achived that
It's your money. You can spend it on whatever you want. I have heard of worse things to spend money on. I hope it lasts you a long time and gives you lots of pleasure. I think it looks great.
honestly bro good for you... life is too short you need to go after your dreams and do whatever makes you happy! i hope one day i can have a dream tank like this myself! I cant believe how expensive aquariums are its crazy. i been in the hobby for 7 years and it gets worse and worse... they need to drop prices it wil get alot more people into the hobby which is what we need ... With all the dying coral reefs in the world the more people the better but many just cant afford it unfortunately. GL with the tank !!
I budgeted 4k when I first started half a year ago. I rehomed a tank for 2k, and now I'm 20k in (USD). I had no idea things got this expensive, this fast!
Man I love your videos. This is a huge inspiration to my first reef tank. I’m on a smaller scale but I play on going all out for my tank and I also had a budget but I went over budget as well lol and all that I’ve been learning from you, you deserve all the success on your new dream reef build. I hope one day if I fly over to Australia to go to reef stock next year it would be an honor to meet you. Greetings from New York
No hate man.. only love!! Another terrific video I never watched this hah. Great detail. I moved into my dream tank this year.. been working on it all year.. I did it on a tight budget but it’s really coming along.
Good for you fella, it's a amazing set up which I'm sure will bring loads of enjoyment, looking forward to seeing it grow out. I'm a long time discus keeper and am toying with the idea of starting up career tank sadly not on par with your dream tank but who knows, maybe one day after all what are dreams for.....
Sam, another great video. You are brave for sharing, I would never for my tank. I'm almost through the setup of mine and you may have forgotten a few things. I'm sure you are running that tank on dedicated circuits and that you have an rodi, ato and probably a saltwater mixing station.
Hey Sam, awesome video. There’s nothing about our hobby that is cheap and the amount of joy it gives you is what life is about. Amazing job and this tank is going to be a stunner. You should check out the latest BRS video on bacteria. Something I’ve been studying for a while. Game changer in my opinion.
@@ParkersReef More about constant supply of new beneficial bacteria and pro biotic. I’ve found it to help with stn acro’s getting bacterial infections. The new good bacteria seems to stop the bad plus it has made nitrate management so much more stable. I’ve found a mix of daily benepets and weekly prodibio to be amazing. All anecdotal of course but a lot of high end sps guys like reef moonshiners are doing a lot of good experimenting.

I have enjoyed the journey and looking forward to it continuing! Video was done well! And honeslty my words don't matter just hope you and ur family are enjoying this lifetime of a tank. Your wife is an MVP for it too!
She is the MVP!
Loved the video. Way impressed with your vision and ingenuity. Your system is well thought out and amazing. I’ve seen people spend a ton of money and their system is no where near as nice. It takes more than money for a custom tank this nice. Really enjoying your build. Thanks for sharing!
thanks so much for the kind feedback, it is really appreciated :)
Very impressive. Look forward to seeing what you end up doing for a control system.
Thanks mate
Great vid. Probably the best setup in OZ at the moment. Great job. I find newbies under estimate what this hobby costs and often go too big without realising the related costs.
Totally agree. Better to be honest so that people can be realistic 👍🏻
This is awesome, we love your channel and watch every video, you can’t take it with you buddy spend away. The wife and I are new to the hobby and you have been a big help. Thank from the mundens (England).
Thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
The question everyone asks and nobody answers!
Well done, very interesting content.
Thanks mate 👍🏻
Sam awesome setup!! Regardless of how much it costs the information you share with the community is priceless. Non the less kudos to you mate.
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Awesome work Sam! Can’t wait to continue to watch your tank fill out with amazing coral!!
Thanks a bunch!
Everybody's got a hobby that cost a lot. A ski boat can cost more than that. Heck an RV to go camping can cost twice that.😉. I work to live,,,,,,,, seems like I've got half that much in 108 gallons least you got five times to gallons for the price. have a good one and thanks for spreading your knowledge helping us out
I used to be in motorsport, this is much cheaper :P
Thanks mate - hope you're enjoying the content!
Fantastic dream reef system, can’t wait to see it fully stocked. Love your videos. No hate here. Keep up the good work Sam 👍🏻
Cheers Dale!
LOL
Hahahaha it is best to ignore that tab 😅
Up to 4 mins in ,,, wow thank u 4 sharing that is a real honest intro of where the money came from love the channel 🏴 🇬🇧
Thanks mate 👍🏻
@@ParkersReef don’t worry about the 1% haters there just jealous ,, uv spent ur hard earned money u know what ur doing ur not a sponsored guy and hide it like others on the platform u just sit bk and enjoy ur tank and what you have achieved and created all the best luck mate keep the vids coming
Hi from South Africa, You do what makes you happy!! Beautiful tank enjoy!
Thanks so much
Great build!!! I have a Water box 100.3 reef tank and love it. I love your videos keep it up. Take care from Patrick in South San Francisco California
Thanks so much Patrick!
I hope those fish appreciate their new castle.
they sure do!
I bet you’ll have 20 K subs by the end of March! Great tank. Excited to watch more of the journey
That’d be awesome 😅
I called Waterbox for a quote on a 6x3 tank and they told me they don't custom build tanks. You're very lucky they did for you and at that price, amazing deal!!
yeah seems to depend on the country you are in. Waterbox can do them for us here in australia, but seems like they do not in America?
@@ParkersReef I guess not, I'm in the US, Which is strange because I believe WB is in Florida.
Yeah never understood why they don’t do it in the states...
I respect your passion and intrest u have for dream tank .. money doesn't matter when achiving dreams if u can afford it do it......ur lucky u achived that
Thanks mate
It's your money. You can spend it on whatever you want. I have heard of worse things to spend money on. I hope it lasts you a long time and gives you lots of pleasure. I think it looks great.
Thanks so much :)
Love it, such an amazing build and bullet proof. When I do get a chance to build mine I will come to you for help.
Please do :)
honestly bro good for you... life is too short you need to go after your dreams and do whatever makes you happy! i hope one day i can have a dream tank like this myself!
You can do it cheaper, like heaps cheaper! This was my effort of “going all out” because as you say, life is too short :)
@@ParkersReef I can understand the theft for furniture u prolly live in usa but things like 4k for a sump? for real xD?
Thanks for your honesty mate... Tank looks awesome!!!!
thank you!
When something is your passion the dollar value is irrelevant ...your corals over the years pays off your tank. Well done
thanks mate
Beautiful set up mate its very rewarding to achieve the final goal and take pride in it well done
Absolutely
Awesome! I don't even want think how much I spent on mine, it just never ends.
Hahaha it never ends
I budgeted 4k when I first started half a year ago. I rehomed a tank for 2k, and now I'm 20k in (USD).
I had no idea things got this expensive, this fast!
Hahaha it sucks you in quick hey!!
Imagine if you would have put that 20k in stocks lol you would have made enough to buy atleast 2 tanks lol
@@marcelrodriguez2067 or have lost it all!
@@ParkersReef nah unless you put money on dumb stocks lol but thats another subject .
@@marcelrodriguez2067 yeah fair enough!
Nice work Sam, worth every penny as as long as Mrs Sam is happy ....hey life’s sweet 👍
Hahah mrs Parker is well comfortable with KHG’s after all these years
Man I love your videos. Greetings from New York
thanks for watching Gary, good luck with your tank!
and yes -would love to meet you at Reefstock!
Nice dream tank Sam. Was good to chat to you on Saturday, hopefully I can start building our reef tank soon.
hey Martin, thanks for joining the channel! Was great to meet you too, yell out if I can help with your new tank at all :)
I think it's brilliant, and I thought it would cost more. I'll start saving (haha) and thanks for taking the time to explain the build.
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for the refreshing honesty Sam. Love your videos
My pleasure!
You went all out and its fricken awesome! very well thought out!
Cheers mate, appreciate it!
No you don’t need to spend that much to have a tank, but it’s your tank and it’s your hobby. Beautiful tank, well done!
Of course! This was my dream tank, so I went above and beyond with most aspects :P
You get what you pay for my friend. It looks incredible - can't wait to watch the reef mature.
thanks so much :D
Well presented Sam. You've dealt with this very tricky subject very well and professionally. Well done mate!
Cheers mate!
Great video!! A true eye opener to the cost of building a large tank. I thank you for taking the time to share this information with us.
My pleasure!
Good job man, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
You bet 👌🏻
No hate man.. only love!! Another terrific video I never watched this hah. Great detail. I moved into my dream tank this year.. been working on it all year.. I did it on a tight budget but it’s really coming along.
Thank you!!
Cheers mate - gotta admit, 5 years ago when I started toying with the idea of this build - I never thought it’d be this hectic either 😅
Very nice! Love the content and look forward to the tank progression!!! Enjoy the dream! Should be a lovely one😊🐠🐡🐠
Thank you 🙏🏻
We are only passing through. Do what makes you happy. Incredible tank!
Haha thanks mate
Mate your a champion, this is something we will all aspire to!!
thanks so much :D
Looking good, even from the states. Love the cleanliness.
Thank you!
Sam, another great video. You are brave for sharing, I would never for my tank. I'm almost through the setup of mine and you may have forgotten a few things. I'm sure you are running that tank on dedicated circuits and that you have an rodi, ato and probably a saltwater mixing station.
Yeah there is always more Infrastructure that you can include in the price 😅
Hey Sam, awesome video. There’s nothing about our hobby that is cheap and the amount of joy it gives you is what life is about.
Amazing job and this tank is going to be a stunner.
You should check out the latest BRS video on bacteria. Something I’ve been studying for a while. Game changer in my opinion.
Bacteria is absolutely where it is at. Closed ecosystems make it difficult, but thankfully in 2021 we are making great developments!!
I couldn’t agree more with this path and will be following along with it 👍🏻
Great video and lots of credit for being candid. My wife left after 5 minutes saying that she wants to sleep at night. 🤔🤣🤩
Lol
The only youtuber that reply every comments. 😳
Is the least I can do 👍🏻
Looks great,.
You worked and saved hard to buy what you wanted good on you
Thanks mate!
It's worth it imo. We actually don't get much water box aquariums here in SA. It's really just red sea or get it built locally
Yeah I was lucky to get a custom Waterbox
Worth every cent!! Amazing Tank.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Only thing giving me anxiety is the thought of project managing the build and install of this beaut! Stunning tank and well worth the money.
hahahaha yeah it was a lot to take on, but enjoyable at the same time :D
