I feel like if you do it again, the basic toiletries (toothbrush- and paste, bar of soap) shouldn‘t count. This could prevent so much single use plastic and only the bare basics aren‘t that heavy or hard to fit in either
Other than that a great idea if you try to watch the sustainability a bit more 😊
When I’m struggling to get my pack weight down I ask myself “what’s the worst thing that can happen if I don’t take this item?” And if I’m ok with that and have an alternative then I leave it behind. Really helps me on long trips because towards the end of my packing I used to say “one more pair of socks won’t make a difference....” but really I can wash undies in the sink with soap if I really need to
I feel proud of myself managing with 15 clothing items and 2 pairs of shoes for a two week trip to New Zealand. I got called "the girl with the small bag". 😎

I was so close to ditching mine! I used to always straighten my hair in high school with an iron hahaha
This was awesome, specially with the raw hand held cam style by Siya when you were packing etc. It was refreshing for a change.. you don't always need to use all cool tricks and multiple angles. I kinda miss you two just walking down the street with a cam throwing some silly challenges to each other 😄 More this type of OG vids once in a while please 👍👍
For 10 items I'd definitely skip the makeup part, but I'd bring my tooth brush and shampoo. I guess I'd take a tee-shirt, a pair of jeans, shampoo, body soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, hoodie, underwears and socks. But it all depends on were you're going and what you're planning to do :)
That's a good list! It's definitely easier to do for hotter weather.
For clothes, before packing, I plan an ootd for the days that im going away. If im gone for a week, I pack 1jean(already wearing) 2 leggings 2 shorts 1 jacket and 8 pairs of shirt (why 8? I always do a plus 1 for emergency, helped me a lot especially on the last trip that I took. lol) oh almost forgot, I pack a pair of pajamas and tons of underwear!! hahahah Love you guys! ❤

gellieunicorn I ALWAYS bring a ton of underwear too!!! LOL. I would much rather have a “dirty” shirt or pants than wear underwear twice in a row.

This was interesting, though not something I’ll be doing anytime soon! I’d need books or my kindle for the plane! Also I wear contacts so that adds several items to my must-haves.

1. Underwear
2. Skirt
3. Shirt
4. Stockings
5. Scarf
6. Phone
7. Charger
8. Brush
9. Wallet
10. Toothbrush
I feel like this is totally doable! I’m naturally a very light packer and always use my Osprey backpack for traveling. So nixing a few more items would be a fun task. Like one of your other viewers does, I tend to pack A LOT of underwear.
Oh wow love this need to accept the challenge for a future weekender!
My 10 items would be:
1:Passport
2:Wallet/purse (with just cards/ID in it)
3:Phone
4:Charger
5:Spare Underwear
6:Spare socks
7:Comfortable hoodie/jumper
8:Hairbrush
9:Hard boiled sweets (I can't fly without some, probably be some Werthers lol)
10:Change (coins)
I can always get anything else I might need when I get there, and hotels generally have soaps etc there. my straighteners and other electrical stuff go in my suitcase, but well packed and in the middle of my clothes for extra protection. I don't wear make-up so no need for that lol
This gave me anxiety!!! Lol! I need more. Not a lot more but more. Makeup... mascara, spf 50 cc cream,concealer, lip gloss, bronzer and face brush... that's my everyday.
Face... my skin is way to sensitive to use a bar soap so cleanser and a moisturizer for night. Traveling to Italy 4 times to see my husband who was in the Navy made me realize what I REALLY needed. One back pack(not over stuffed) and a small carry on with wheels... If it didn't fit ... I didn't need it.

Yes, this would be so fun! And easier than the "no luggage" trip I did last time.

Only ever take cabin luggage on overseas trips. Soooo much lighter and easier.

I believe I got them in Australia. I get all my jewellery from countries I visit OR I make the items myself :) I'll be launching my jewellery line this year.

This is what I’d bring
(First to beat the system I would wear my hair in a messy bun with 2 hair ties and Bobby pins. That way if I wanted I could change my hair style
And wear my fake berkin stocks)

Are we talking about just 10 items in your bag, like not including a handbag, I only have a small handbag that I travel with for things like travel docs, passport, phone/charger, meds, small wallet, little things e.g.pen etc... it's like playing tetris but I fit heaps in a bag about half the size of an a4 piece of paper, does that stuff count or just what I would take in backpack like yours??
Easy, I've traveled for months with just a 38L bag. For months, no I couldn't do 10 items. For a weekend I could.

I have never really focused on 'cute' or 'stylish', I guess that is the benefit of being a guy! The importance is always focused on comfort/versatility.
We packed up and started a life in Cancun with only a backpack a piece and 1 suitcase. Certainly more than 10 items but it felt great downsizing. It makes it easier when going to a tropical place.

My personal packing rules say that if several things fit into a pencil case, it counts as one item. (a normal size pencil case, not some fancy ginormous one)

I was thinking that, too, use pouches to put small stuff in, like toiletries, meds, etc, then count the pouches as 1 item, I can use a lot less than 10 of those!

I always pack my swim suit and hairbrush when I travel. Non-negotiable. (I can fit those in my purse!)
so if you pack 10 items for 3 days, for 10 days, for this challenge, I could pack about 30 items? right? interesting video. I'm going to try this challenge for my summer 2019 road trip.
Curious did the camera counted for one of the ten things or you used your phone? I’m driving to Boston for three days in three weeks. I really don’t think I can do that challenge.

I'm preparing my 5 weeks trip and honestly, even though I am a mnimalist, it's hard to keep it under 20 items (my curls force me to bring at least 4 hair products :p) Good video!!! I might take the challenge for the next trip during summer ;)
Yes, the hair products!!! I totally get you. 20 items for a 5 week trip is very impressive!
I have curly hair too. But it's long enough to braid. SO I wash and braid 1-2 days before departure and bring TINY pots of my curly hair 'product' for the 1 or two days that I shampoo. I always use the hotel's toiletries.
@@nuvoclassic I managed to get all my products in tiny pots after all. Will be in hostels and it's better to stay away from hotel toiletries as they are all in mini plastic things and I try to stay away from plastic

I have curly hair but won’t use hotel toiletries because they tend to have parabins and sulphates in and are tested on animals 🤷♀️

oh my god! What about the 10x10 challenge? I think it's like you have to pack only 10 pieces of clothing and from that you can get 10 outfits... actually i'm not sure what it is :')

My 10 items. Apart from what I’m wearing. Hmmm *thinking* 1. Pair good pants (going out), 2. T-shirt, 3. Jumper, 4. Rain jacket, 5. Mascara, 6. Eyebrow pencil, 7. Good shirt, 8. Scarf, 9. Undies, 10. Phone.
Will wear comfy, all purpose shoes on plane. Hand wash undies and bra. Amenities pack on plane or in hotel room - shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, deo.
Thx for this great chance to be creative and practical.
For a challenge like this it would make a bit more sense for a toiletries kit to be one item in this challenge instead of bathroom stuff taking up half of the allotment.

Wait what about a charger?? I can't imagine going for a trip without a cell phone charger....
For only 3 days, I could manage with less than 10 clothing items, but counting toiletries/ makeup/ electronics doesn't make any sense to me...
Isn't it cheating asking to the hotel? Don't get me wrong I love this kind of challenge but then you can also buy clothes and then give them or sell them to a thrift store and you still have only 10 items :)
If I had to do it for a 3 days trip, I think it would be :
1 underwear - 1 bra - 1 tshirt - 1 leggings - hairstraightener - mascara - toothbrush - dry shampoo ... and I don't know... it's difficult to find 10 hahaha 😅😅😅
And on myself a pair of jeans, t shirt, check shirt and sneakers. I'm ready to go :D!!

Did your electronics not count? You must have had at least a phone to film this ending on the bed? And a charger for the phone?
I didn't count my phone or camera since I needed those for work and had to travel with them.

kind of disappointing to see that packing lightly trumps packing for sustainability. single-use plastics, anyone? seeing you get a new toothbrush and razor for one weekend was kind of uncomfortable. nobody's perfect, but if you are privileged enough to travel, I feel like some attention should be given to your environmental impact as well. :/

I'm with you. Kristen might not do this all the time but she's effectively encouraging other people to by making this video. 10 is an arbitrary number so why not adapt, increase it to 15 and explain that you're doing so to reduce waste.
We kept the free items. They're currently in our cabinet.
I challenge you not to wear makeup for a week, I’m 37 and haven’t used makeup in years, it’s so much better for your skin and you would be amazed how many people prefer the no makeup look and / or are envious of me for not spending so much time money and energy getting ready.
Did this include your breast pump?
hahah no! I figured that wouldn't count since it's something I HAD to bring but it wouldn't be something others would be bringing most likely. Like if someone needed to bring medication, I wouldn't personally count that as an item.
It's only 3 days. And she isn't a minimalist so it must be very very hard for her ....m
This to me is so easy. Wear a jacket sweater and large scarf shoes that work for 3 days. Then bring 3 dresses, another bra, 6 underwear and that's it.
