I don’t know anything about the beer -but we just bought the house that belonged to “the successful CEO’s” daughter. Fascinating history. The main staircase was made in France in 1782. There are 7 staircases. Much of the house was brought in from Paris bit by bit. It’s quite the renovation project. We figure around 45 years with full-time craftsmen. We’re 2 years in 🙄. Grosse Pointe Farms Michigan. Fantastic architecture, from what I hear, was not too good a beer…. Found your review looking for house history. Cheers! 🍻

Since India much like Germany and Italy was a collection of different Kingdoms ruled by different princes Dukes known as Nawabs or Barron's Lords Kings Queens etc.
Really enjoyed your review. When I was in college in the early eighties I used to buy Stroh Bock which fed my interest to the craft beer movement. Thanks Jay!
Can’t be obtained in Tampa Bay Florida metropolitan area anymore and there used to be a big distributor around Clearwater or Largo, FL. I sort of miss them as it was an old favorite. We used to buy it by the keg for parties. Good times.
From talking to my grandfather, Stroh's seemed to have a significant following here in western PA many years ago. There is a beer distributor close to me that sells 30pk cans, and it is still available in 12oz bottles in select local bars (which have an older customer base).
Growing up in Erie in the 70s one of my strongest memories was walking to the corner beer distributor with a heavy cardboard case of empty bottles of Strohs my dad had drank to return the bottles for a dollar or so. Every week he would buy a full case on Friday after work and I'd walk the empties back some days later. I got to keep the money. I was probably 10 years old. The beer distributor was 10 houses down from us right in a residential neighborhood and it was a drivethru.
I read in the Detroit Free Press that Stroh's is brewed at the Miller Brewing Plant in Trenton, Ohio (about 30 miles north of Cincinnati). Still pretty widely available in the Midwest. 30 pk is $20.99.
When I was a kid I also thought that Stroh’s was a Minnesota beer since their ads we featured on Twins programs in the early 90s. I used to drink it college once and awhile. Recently I haven’t drank or seen Stroh’s in a long time. Interesting insight and history to a regional beer that bit off more than they could chew. 🍻
Strohs beer is making a comeback in Winona Minnesota great beer 🍺 I have the 1999 beverage world when Strohs beer sold to Pabst thanks for the update Strohs was brewing their beers in St Paul MN at the former Hamm's brewery from 1986-97 till they moved to G Heileman brewery in 1996-1999
I drank Miller lite ice in the blue label bottles back in 94, while finishing senior year of high school. Never knew Stroh’s was Miller. Alex was the dog that competed with Spuds
Haven't seen strohs in about five years in my area and sadly I can't find Schlitz anymore either. Pabsts brewing company you are pathetic! Another good job Jay.
I put Strohs up there with Hamms as far as taste goes. Hamms is a little cheaper though, so it edges it out slightly. But if my grocery store is out of Hamms I sometimes pick this up. It was my late uncles favorite beer way back in the day. He used to give it to us kids when we were running around in diapers haha. Anyways, thanks for all the knowledge. Told me a lot about the company I did not know. Cheers.
Ronald I wanted to hit you up with a question. I enjoy some, not all of Pabst brands (looking at you Old Milwaukee 🤮) After their contract brewing agreement ended with Miller Coors it looks like most, if not all of their production has moved to City Brewing Co out of LaCrosse WI though I'm sure they are also probably utilizing the brewery in Latrobe, PA. Now I used to love Pabst Blue Ribbon but now it seems like it has lost it's signature taste and seems cheapened somehow. I don't think I will be buying again anytime soon. Strohs was recently brought back to my area in Lancaster County PA, and will also made in LaCrosse now, it still seems to me to have that signature "fire brewed" Strohs taste. I think I will buy it again as long as quality is maintained. Just seeking your thoughts on all of this.
It's hard to say, Joshua Hedrick. I know that by January of 2025, all Pabst beers will be coming from the City Brewing facilities. I've heard some people say the stuff is better, whilst others say the opposite. I'm still unsure about it, and maybe they'll be working on the recipes, after the transition. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
In turned 19 in Chicagoland in 1975 at that time we could buy Beer & Wine and 21 for Hard Liquor if my memory serves me correctly. Strohs or Old Style was our go to Beers.
The backround story's and these booklets are super interesting. Never had a Stroh's beer(guess it wouldn't sale in germany), but have to say the pictures on the booklet with the brewing ketles looks very promissing, the label looks good too reminds me of Czech, Polish or Danish beer logos, also the varieties of products, Bock and Oktoberfest beer... I'm on :) Regarding to you review, i just can imagine it is a "boring"(don't find another word right now) beer in taste, at least for me :/ What i don't understand the US has good beers like NCB Old Stock Ale, why isn't that the standart... i mean it is strong(abv) but enjoyable and it would sale(at least i guess)... whats the problem with brewing more beers like that, i don't get it?! Anyway, somewhere(on a hill in Arkansas) lives a beardy old man named Billy who brews his own beer right now "Old Billy's Moonshine Goat", best beer in the world! I swear ;)
Yes, I understand what you mean, here. The really nice ones, such as Old Stock Ale, don't have much of a following in America, but the ordinary ones (Miller Light, Coors Light, etc. DO have an enormous following). I used to support Stroh Brewing, because I thought they had a more serious beer approach, but that did not work for them. Quality? Who wants that?
Awesome review as always Ron. I’ve always wanted to try this beer as my last name is Stroh. Unfortunately it’s nowhere to be found in and around Washington state. If anyone is willing to send some to me I’d be willing to reimburse. Just putting that out there. 😊

Oh snap, I have not had a Stroh's since 2015, enjoyed for number of years circa 2006-11 in NJ & GA (spotty availability but see here and there) in the dark blue can. Not seen again since then though. Even remember on the website in the those days claimed Stroh's had "a hop pedigree typically reserved for craft beers" or something like that. Yep, However, I think I was maybe only twelve or thirteen years old at the time? I was with my parents visiting my great grandparents and was playing in the basement and just happened to stumble upon a small stash of STROH'S 😁
Have you ever thought of doing lives going into the post prohibition history of large bought out/defunct brands, I think it would be quite popular. Would be interesting to hear more about how Pabst basically became the graveyard for most of our historic brands via all the various buy outs. Always found it quite curious how Miller and Anheuser-Busch at least from what I see online, didn't buy out many breweries compared to Pabst. Why did Pabst sell their breweries to Miller and proceed to have them contract brew instead of Miller buying them or our merging the companies? Was it anti-trust issues or some other factor?
