  • Green electricity didn't exist in the world back in 1996. When we offered it for the first time, we became not just Britain’s but the world’s first green electricity company - and we kick-started the now global green electricity movement. Our mission was and remains to change the way electricity is made and used in Britain.
    We chose this focus because conventional electricity is responsible for 30% of Britain’s carbon emissions - it’s our biggest single source as a nation, and therefore the biggest single thing we can change.

      I'd like to find out how to stop you spreading anti-nuclear nonsense and popularizing space filling bird shredders that still require a backup power plant. It's organizations like yours that make electricity more expensive and has Germany building MORE coal power plants because they demolish their nuclear ones, hope you're happy about that.
      Nuclear is the only option for an electricity grid that's carbon neutral and so called green organizations should popularize it instead of smearing it

      Nuclear power has a lot of bad things about it, but the advantage is that responsible control can mitigate or completely eliminate them. But only very wealthy, money centered people have the capital to own and operate them in the first place, and they have a long history of causing death and suffering in exchange for saving money on dumping fees and other such things. The local wildlife can also be ruined if the water source for the cooling was natural. To make sure that everything is going well and the surrounding populace isn't slowly being irradiated to an early death, a ginormous amount of overlapping and redundant oversight is required. That and other things make nuclear fission power both extremely slow to build and extremely expensive. By the time all the reactors were built it would be long past too long to halt climate change.

    I love how they did their job so well in this campaign that it actually makes you hate the wind turbines at the end. An entire video of peaceful, cute-faced towers, living their lives, getting brutally killed, as you watch them horrified knowing they are going to die, some desperately trying to save their friends. Then, after all of this violence, fear, tears, the turbines come out, victorious, emerging from the bodies of the dead, growing, dependent on destruction of someone else for their life, like scavengers, cold, clean, faceless, emotionless, in contrast to the towers we previously saw, cheerful, happy, drinking tea, having friends, showing compassion to their companions. It legit made me want to tear these god damn windmills down and I was genuinely angry when I saw them popping up.
    This ad is so completely failed, delivers a message so radically opposed to what it should be that it actually made me think it was some anti wind turbines campaign or something like that. Truly, a bunch of incompetent idiots, the only message that I got from this ad is that, no matter what subject they try to touch, the ecologists systematically turn out to be incredibly incompetent and counter productive.
    And I personally believe it matches their beliefs pretty well (like tearing down nuclear plants despite being the cheapest and one of the least polluting ways to produce mass amounts of energy without emitting carbon dioxyde, which could be a great asset we could use while perfecting or finding long term solutions).

Dude, I live in an area primarily powered by nuclear and hydroelectric, some natural gas, a very tiny amount of wind, and all the solar I've seen is for street lights or on private housing roofs. My energy bill for my apartment, kept at 60F during this past summer - which reached 115F, was a mere $42/mo. Winter energy bills are $30/mo. Amazing how fast people get onboard for nuclear when they see an energy bill that low. My friend back where I used to live now hates me, because he's still paying something like $120/mo.

      . The concentration of waste produced is far less

      . The only reason why the waste is dangerous at all is because it is concentrated in barrels. If we could spread it out, like powdering it and spreading it into the ocean, there will be practically no radiation rise.

      @tjhookaa 7 років тому +1

      madscientistshusta thorium isn't the power source of the future. Development for thorium reactors has been happening since the 50s. Even after spending billions of dollars fruitlessly, and generating tons of waste, We still have billions of more dollars to go to even create the proper equipment for thorium reaction. Although thorium sounds like the "'magic green bullet" There are a lot of issues with thorium that prevent its from being the commercially viable option, ranging from cost, all the way to the reactor creating more dangerous waste than a uranium reactor, since a thorium reactions byproduct creates one of the most dangerous gamma emitting material. Another issue, and I know it's just related to war hungry nations, but thorium does not product any plutonium, or radioactive weapon material. Which means the likeliness of it being backed by any of the major nations more than it already has is a pretty low chance. I hope we find a new power source, but don't be to quick to believe the nuclear lobby, they are just as persuasive, powerful, and destructive as the coal companies when they were first opened.

      Ask the people of Fukushima how happy they are that they had this "clean" electricity. Radioactive waste radiates for hundred of years, no human can imagine what problems it will cause for the next few generations. Fusion is something very different than fission, so you can't compare that.

      Fukushima was at the fault of the tsunami it wiped out all of its backups it was perfectly fine on its own and could have been built to be resistant if they figured that would have ever been a problem. Why don't you ask the people in France how happy they are, They get 75% of there electricity from nuclear power and its working out great for them.

      And we in Germany are so happy that the French are bringing their waste over to our nation. Fukushima proved that natural desasters can wipe out all the backups, Tchernobyl showed that people can make wrong decisions. The conclusion: Mankind has to deal with it for centuries. Even tho it is highly unlikely that something happens, but IF something goes wrong in Germany, roughly 10% of the nation is then contamined. It is just not worth it.

      Wind turbines are EXTREMELY high maintenance and shred birds. Many wind turbines actually catch on fire.on a regular basis.

      You need a citation in order to know or look up how many birds they shred to pieces? They are loud as hell talk up huge amounts of space for a decent farm and only generate about 1% of energy in the usa.
