Its one thing to be welcomed as a stranger snooping around deep in the village😂 but to immediately be invited in for food, thats another level of hospitality. However I have a feeling that the fact that you speak Chinese very well has a lot to do with that. So you've more than earned the treatment. What a lovely lady!!!
This is literally like most African village life where even if you say you are full they will pack it for you to take...very nice to see so much similarities from people thousands of miles away.
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” --- Nelson Mandela
@timurkral3781 not really. This is Chinese culture. It's not like here in the West where we move onto a new topic each time and get offended or annoyed when asked the same questions again and again. In China it's more like you'll be asked the same thing a few times as a way of expressing your feeling. For example let's say you got a girlfriend, they'll talk about that multiple times in a short time frame. Like "Oh she is so pretty" as a side comment if that makes sense. So they are talking without giving it much deep thought, it's an accompanying point to show their emotion. If you go to China and see hospitable people, you'll find people say "chi la" as in "eat" multiple times.
This can be said the same for Japan, Philippines and most Asian countries 😊 But of course, not all are like that but there are more people like this than in America.
This is what is called old hospitality, and to welcome a complete stranger into one's home for a meal. No special occasion just friendship and hospitality and an opportunity to communicate. A mother's instinct is to feed and nurture and always over cooking and expect you to eat it all. God bless this wonderful mother and gentlemen.
The reason why one of the first things Chinese people (generally older) asks guests if they've eaten yet is because China went through famine and starvation for a period of time decades ago. They've lived through those years and understand the importance of food. They want to make sure that their guests/friends are never hungry.

Asking people whether one has eaten just like saying hi in the past thousands of years, nowadays it's more between older folks who know each other well.
As a Chinese who only gets to visit home once every few years; this is an extremely accurate depiction of the more rural regions of the country. The people are immensely kind and many many front doors are just wide open - incredible sense of community. It's quite different from life in the cities - things are simpler and everyone is unbelievably warm. I guess we really do have a culture of feeding people hh. Thank you so much; I was smiling the whole way through the video.

It warmed my heart when she said "after studying, if you are able, come to China to see me". I really hope he comes back to visit her and brings her something

yeah and people out here in the US trying to make us hate asians and saying they deserve to get beat and be hated cause " They're all racist" I had Black friends go to China and get so much love and warmth...
As a German where hospitality is as rare of an occurence as a train that arrives on time, this is really mind-blowing and heart-warming for me to watch
I know some warm German people but very often the Common Impression is distant and distrust because it can become quiet Dangerous when people make Claims against you!
As an implant from the Caribbean to Germany ( Schwäbisch Alp ) I experienced such hospitality. It depends where you live and I live in a small village.
Generally i agree with you. But i have been living in Germany for a long time myself and i met many generous and warm hearted german here too… german are a bit cold in the beginning but once you get to know them, they are very honest, warm and loyal people❤

Wow. Thanks for enlightening us with this information. While I am sorry that they had to go through such horrible times, I am likewise almost in tears seeing that such love and generosity came out of it. I hope they may enjoy health and prosperity. What a beautiful culture.
It’s true. Back in the days of my grandma and grandpa, ppl starve becoz of war. Even my mother is not well fed when she was young. 8 ppl living in an insane tiny apartment in Hong Kong. When I go to primary school, invited my school firend some of them are Indian and Italian. My mom made a ton of food and force them to finished it😂
It’s clear to see she is a village mother of the old way. She didn’t want to see you hungry or the food go to waste! It was a God sent opportunity for you both to connect and break the stereotypes
She doesn't smile much, almost looks grumpy at times, but her action speaks louder than her expressions. 😂She's so kind and welcoming, and obviously very proud that they use ingredients they grow to make the foods they eat.
In the US, my Latina grandmother, God rest her soul, would sometimes invite people walking by her home to come in and eat. Grandfather would ask, “Who is this?” Grandmother would reply, “Oh it’s someone that walked by, they looked hungry.” (Conversation was in Spanish). These grandmothers though. Hearts of gold. 💛
My heart would be leaping through my chest but maan you've grown more balls while still being respectful to local people and culture!! Thanks for representing us Africans out there with your charm and good manners. Many African UA-camrs have decided to be disrespectful and call it fun just to get views.

Bro I just went to China for the first time 2 weeks ago and came back to New Zealand last week and the hospitality there for people who look like us (I'm Fijian) is insane, like I feel more like a human in China than I do in New Zealand, especially when I'm in the white areas. In China, they treat you like a human, and it seems like it's the case for all of China. They're aren't divided about skin color, race, religious differences, gender, pro nouns, and politics unlike the west which explains why they've become so much more advanced than the west. We can take a lot of notes from the Chinese people. I have Chinese bloodline from my great grand father so I just feel a deeper sense of loyalty for China at this point. The hospitality I received despite communication barrier is making me want to learn mandarin, and do business with the Chinese.
I've been studying Chinese philosophy for almost a year. And I'm pretty sure that all the love they have in them come from some of their ancient philosophies, especially Confucianism. Their virtue is based on treating others better then yourself, and only then would you be consider a human being. To be human, is to engage with love towards another, and only then you can become a human being and understand who you really are. It just shows us how much loveable Chinese people can be despite the still bad facade that we often and sadly sees from medias.
i am chinese , and most of what you say is true, but just to temper your expectations a little bit ,there will always be some people who aren't that friendly with you.
Wow, you are awesome. I hope my Chinese can be as good as yours soon, Fel. That Chinese lady is so kind. Village Chinese people are the best. I had this interaction while living in a village during my first year in China.
@dontdie777 - If you had an above average IQ you would get what I mean. That's why school is important. Maybe you are used to welfare checks and freeloading. Most likely you wouldn't dish out loads of food to a stranger in your country, you just want to take advantage of other people. Beggar mentality is toxic. Self discipline is very important. I refuse money and other stuff when I don't need it, and I make sure to pay back everything that I owe. I certainly don't like being dependent on other people. How long will you stay in your mum's basement, grow up. People are not attracted to beggars, they are attracted to people with values.
She kicked right into mom mode the second u walked in, seriously some of the most genuine love a human can give is to make sure others are fed and healthy, hope you and this awesome lady live long prosperous lives!
This lady is sooo sooo sweet. I’m so happy there are kind people in China willing to invite us as blacks in thier home to eat a meal and treat us as human beings. The last I heard Africans were being forced to sleep in the streets. I was so sadden by this. Watching from the USA 🇺🇸 as an African American. I Love this lady.
Bro,before 2012, Chinese people were not hostile to foreigners. Due to changes in the international situation, this hostility only appeared in the past ten years. The media in every country is deliberately cultivating prejudice and hatred... For a long time, Chinese media and textbooks have been calling black people "our African brothers"
As much hate and evil that is being pushed through the social media stream I still believe in love because of this video right here. She invited you in and asked if you’ve eaten yet 💙 The world and all of these different cultures are so fascinating and beautiful 🙌🏼

For Chinese people, black people, white people, hispanics (actually, to us, hispanics are just white people unless they have darker skin then they're black people lol... to us, there's only Asian, i.e chinese, korean, japanese, white and black) - they're all just foreigners. They're all the same, because there is no history of enslaving a foreign race (based in color) in chinese history.

America's government spends around a billion dollars on anti-China propaganda/hate every single year. I agree this video and other like it would be great to share so more people see the true China, but at least in the West this is not easily going to overcome all the propaganda.
Once gain, a great video Fel. I had the same happen to me once in Spain backpacking. A family sat me down at a long table outside and fed me lunch. You videos are great at breaking down the western 'hate china' narrative. 非常 好!
First time viewer. I love how grandma gets so much satisfaction from watching you enjoy her food. Such a universal reaction. Not only that, she invites you to come back to visit next time you are in town. You are a part of her family now. I have a renewed faith in humanity from viewing this beautiful exchange. Such a contrast from what we are constantly bombarded with in mainstream media. I needed this today. Thank you. 🙏🏽🫶🏽
Hi Fel, I'm a first time viewer. Enjoyed this video very much, it warms my heart to see your interaction with granny! Just a note - do be mindful of the rice on your chopsticks, don't dip into the dishes when there's rice on them, and certainly don't leave rice in the dishes. Granny low-key spotted them, which was likely why she asked you to finish the soup, and scooped the parts with rice on them back onto your plate. Cheers!
Ya, at a later stage, the lady realized that she should give him a fork and spoon, but Fel insisted on using the chopsticks out of respect for the Chinese culture.
People in rural China are so hospitable. If you are polite and friendly, he will invite you to his house for dinner and even provide you with accommodation.
I really enjoy watching your videos because you truly do make the video about the people you meet & interact with & in doing so I have learned much about Chinese culture. There are so many people sharing video travel blogs that are more about themselves & their vanity rather than about the people they meet but your being so different makes your videos a step above the rest. "Grandmother" was so very nice to invite a stranger into her home & feed him & that was very heartwarming as you don't see that type of friendly behavior in today's world. Mankind would definitely benefit from having a lot more individuals like " Grandmother" in the world.
The food looks DELICIOUS!! And she is absolutely wonderful. This is my dream to be able to see the world and run into groups of nice, hospitable people.
Hey Fel! You’re really getting pampered & spoiled in China…my goodness! You got a full-course home cooked meal! And such a kind, generous & hospitable woman she really treated you like a mother…so concerned that you needed to eat a complete meal. You connected very well with her. 😊😊😊
This lady presents the most ordinary Chinese, they are very humble and hard working, they treat foreigners with the highest hospitality standards they could offer, I miss China so much !
She was extra nice. Just next time, don't double, triple, quadruple dip in all the food. Scoop all of your food in your plate, then eat. She tried to hint at it by saying "If there were an epidemic, I will not invite you to eat!" Then she shoved all the food on your plate. The family that eats after you has to eat with with your saliva on their food. Just a pointer if you want to keep getting invited for food. ❤

Lovely people. The culture of sharing and not wasting food. Even with people you don't know, with no biases of the very foreign appearances and skincolor. Beautiful. May these people live long and be healthy until the end.
I love that even though his Chinese tonal pronunciation is not always perfect, he's got SO many of the little mannerisms of speech down. The many non verbal gestural sounds and more casual native phrases. I suspect it reflects how much he committed to learning Chinese by embedding himself in the culture rather than simply book-learning.

I love this video: Fel just has a way that makes me smile a lot and makes me wanna learn Chinese too. What a super cool video;
gotta say you have good taste. Asian dramas, whether chinese korean or japanese, are the best.
I was thinking exactly the same thing 😂
Yea that is right but a lot of the Asian folks be eating like that so I think it’s normal
@@danielchheng2958if you are family yes that's fine. But for someone you don't know, mono is real and also if you have herpes. Not saying he does at all but those things you gotta be more careful.
fr even if you are quite literally going to be eating food straight from the plate, you still give a show of bringing your chopsticks to your bowl before eating because it’s seen as rude to eat straight from the plate like it’s your own when others are eating from it. no worries tho ppl r still learning ❤
As I chinese, you may dip in food many times. But don't leave the rice on your chopstickes to the dishes. That's not good table manner in China.
I had to subscribe. This felt so genuine and was so nice to watch. Faith in humanity restored ❤️
At are you mixed with
Lovely people. The culture of sharing and not wasting food. Even with people you don't know, with no biases of the very foreign appearances and skincolor. Beautiful. May these people live long and be healthy until the end.
In the United States, they would have called the cops on you, and you probably would have lost your life.
yeah sadly
In some states, they just shot strangers because of their 2nd amendment rights😂
Sad but probably true.
So who is more civilised
China.
I really respect that, as it shows a kind of respect to culture and language that's rare nowadays!
Much love and respect from a Chinese brother!
