We can’t just sit around and wait for those in power to help, they are preoccupied battling each other in matters of greed and power. It’s about the frustration of feeling powerless but also the hope in realising that things can be changed for the better, if we stop criticising each other and making enemies of ourselves by blindly following the ideas of politicians and their media 🖤

The provocative, imperious and engaging Swedish-based metal group SOEN will unveil their fifth album, IMPERIAL, via Silver Lining Music on January 29th 2021. Founder members Joel Ekelöf (vocals) and Martin Lopez (drums), along with Lars Enok Åhlund (keyboards and guitar), Oleksii “Zlatoyar” Kobel (bass) and Cody Ford (lead guitar) have never shied away from challenging our perceptions of life and humanity, and IMPERIAL continues SOEN’s unique journey through the psyche of our species and the conundrum of our times. Eight crisp, sharp, and supremely constructed songs spanning frustration, reflection and hope, IMPERIAL is the most direct fierce? and dynamic release of SOEN’s journey, one which continues to be deeply therapeutic for both the group’s dedicated followers and the band themselves.
Produced by Iñaki Marconi and the band, IMPERIAL was mixed and mastered by Kane Churko, who has worked with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Bob Dylan, giving songs such as ‘Illusion’, ‘Modesty’ and the epic closer ‘Fortune’ a dimension and richness which will reach yet more ears and minds. The sheer power and poetry of SOEN’s dynamics are more completely executed and honed than ever before, something which is perversely a product of the COVID-19 pandemic.
IMPERIAL is an album which will engage the listener immediately and sustain long after this crazy time has passed, its rich details destined to make it a classic metal album of this era.

This song reminds us why progressive metal is the best kind of metal
Absolutely!
It is the best genre at all lol. The best use of all instruments you can have. But Soen have something more to it… the classical prog in a new shape, easy to the ears of everyone and not only the musicians, lyricis that hit hard … guitar solos that are just perfect , nothing more, nothing less. Impressive how good they are.
I respectfully disagree. The best kind of music, metal or otherwise, for an individual is the one they enjoy the most at the time. It just so happens that I lean towards progressive/doom sound the most now, it wasn't the case a few years ago, however, when my friend from HS (we're in our early 30ies so were past mid 20ies back then) used to send me links to various prog stuff, I could appreciate the music but it wasn't something I'd willingly listen in my free time, you know.
I do not mean to argue but claiming "X is the best genre" or even "X metal is the best kind of metal" does sound like asking for a pretty pointless argument.
This song sounds more like a rock ballad from the 90's

This song honestly brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of my family and I standing around my grandma's hospital bed watching as she slowly took her final breaths and drifted into the next world.
A lot of family blamed themselves for her passing. Saying they could have done more, They should have spent more time with her. But life is short and thats why every moment is so important. When its time to go. Its time and nothing is going to be able to change that.

Im always into the softer side of Soen. Very tasty, smooth Pink Floyd-ish solos, and soothing vocals! Hopefully I'll hear more of the band's heavier/complex side as well!
Listening to the soft Soen songs (specially with headphones) is magical. I highly appreciate their songs that manage to make a transition from soft to harder stuff, it feels like I get sent to another dimension!

Wow, just wow, I have just heard the album and...it is amazing.
It is an incredible album, the three songs released so far aren't even the strongest on the album as much as how great they are. The last Three songs are fantastic imho, Modesty , Dissident and Fortune....amazing. This is definitely going to top the 2021 album lists...well if there's any justice in the world.
Modesty, Illusion and Lumerian are the best on this album i think. Also are some of my fave soen tracks now!
