For years I thought these were called confetti because they had pieces of paper mixed into the wax. Them just having a “mix” of different colors makes way more sense.
Steph's description of the swatches looking like you're using crayons that some other kid has scribbled over other colors with and essentially ruined is perfect, that's exactly what these crayons are and I wouldn't have guessed there was a market for that look lol
I tried a box of these (mine had completely different colours so I guess they're randomized) and found that if you colour only up and down without going back over anything, they work better and you can get streaks of different colours. If you go in circles or go back over anything, it muddies the colours together. Not saying they're good but with effort you can make them less bad.

I picked mine up at the dollar tree, so I only paid $1.25 usd. The real evil is the glitter crayons. Because the glitter is too chunky and it doesn’t actually transfer onto the paper, it just builds up at the end of the crayon and stops the wax getting through
Crayola has a LOT of these weird special effects packs in the US. Confetti, glitter, metallic; some other ones, too, that all seem kind of redundant and un-useful. But they all come in packs of eight, so don’t feel juked!! Edit: Just got to the part where Adam’s baffled about how much Steph paid for these 😭 I usually see these at Dollar Tree, which is a dollar store here in the US where everything in it is $1.25. It used to be just a dollar, but, inflation. When I see it at places like Wal-Mart, they’re only a couple bucks max. No one’s paying big money for these. I think they’re meant to supplement regular crayon sets, but they’re not very good, and even in the packs, the quality can vary a lot from crayon to crayon ):

Years ago Crayola made a set of crayons for coloring over dark papers as well as something similar to the "confetti" set you got except the "confetti" was visible pieces of colors in the light-colored, opaque, base color. But the crayons themselves were the same consistency as the regular crayola crayons... the formula didn't create those "waxy piles" I saw on your drawings. They went down smooth. Those two sets (from the late '80s or early '90s) were my favorites!! My kindergarten and preschool students loved them, too!
I found a blog post about the 24 pack, and it has a better color selection. The 8 pack seriously gives you TWO whitish colors?! That's so lame. The crayon names remind me of pony names 👀
I have the 24 pack and SEVEN are white based. 3 are peach based. It's a sad box to look in. I collect the special edition crayons and I've honestly been wondering if I even care about having the confetti crayons anymore. I'm really curious about comparing them to the swirl collection if I can ever find it though!
Ah! These are my favorite crayola crayons. I have the 24 set. Im so sad everyone hates them. I have a huge crayola collection and these make me so happy I love campfire jamboree and pool party I also love clambake in the bigger set. I like to use them to add texture to big areas. The key is making longer strokes in one direction (up and down vs left to right) rather than circular motions.

If you are finding pens easier than pencils with your tremor try a heavier pencil, a 2mm propelling one out of Adam’s pencil case is a good idea, and add a pencil grip to give it a bit more of a chunky barrel If you want some vintage pencils to try (and keep) for a we tried old art products please let me know as I am having a clear out and have some vintage colouring and drawing and inking supplies, they can be collect delivered as I am in the uk, so no need to worry about giving out an address. Steph, even with your tremor, you have such a steady hand for lining! Your eyeliner too. If I try to do a wing with eyeliner it ends looking like the needle of a lie detector when someone is lying. Like very bad lightning.

I think it´s fitting, since Adamo is color blind, that the Claude Monet crayons looks like the color blindness testing pictures, the ones with a pattern of different colored dots and numbers hidden in the dot pattern. At least here in Sweden the test pictures looks like that. Is it the same in the UK?
I, coincidently, tried the confetti crayons. I thought I didn't like them because I was expecting it to look like, but I agree with Steph, it is just muddy.

This is the 2nd video of y'all's I've ever seen. Coincidentally, Steph's art style is similar to mine. I even also have a tremor! Unfortunately, I get really, really down on myself. Adam's compliments towards Steph's art heals my soul a lil'. Y'all have such a wholesome channel. Even when y'all have some bad art supplies, these videos are uplifting.

There are Crayola crayons called "Crayola Swril" (I think they came out this year for back to school maybe) That I think are more like what you may have expected with these. However the packs do contain a lot of white for some reason, but they have more chunks of color like the other crayons you showed as an example in this video. Crayola also has swirl color pencils and the twisty crayons I think. I have personally seen them at Walmart, but as an American idk about anything UK other than yalls lemonade is fizzy which personally offends me😂. Anyways lovely video as always!!!!

Ive been a fan since 2015 and im so glad yall havent changed!! Love yall! Edit (finished video): i also really love red velvet cake! But can never go wrong with a plain vanilla either. I usually like to get my red velvet cake with whipped vanilla frosting instead of cream cheese too!
Also, with crayola crayons i like to scrape off the top layer! It leaves a nice texture and makes the colours look more pale. I think that might help these guys maybe! You can use a spoon or a butter knife, its a lot easier than using your fingernails. Even the flat back end of a wood colour pencil can work in a pinch!!
These remind me of the crayons we had in primary school that were kept in 1 Litre ice cream tubs so all the colours would rub against each other so you'd go to colour the sun and it'd end up yellow with flecks of green or something and all the people looked diseased xD It also seems like Crayola were trying to sell off the boo-boo crayons where the mixture was wonky and they got drips of the wrong colours in there and nothing mixed properly. Since they remind me of primary school I'd be tempted to do that thing where you use the crayons then go over them with dye or ink since that was a project we did several times back then. As always though the art you guys made with these is still super cute! When I started watching your channel I literally lived on the other side of the world. I moved late in 2016 which is the year I started watching. I'm also literally 30 now and hoping I'll find a way to make this decade of my life better than the previous ones. Even though I've literally been an adult the whole time I've watched your channel it still feels a bit like I grew up watching it xD I think in the spirit of the channel-versary it could be cute to redraw some of your old characters from over the years in one bigger drawing that you could work on together (like a Romantic Collab xD) maybe they could be having a party or it could be a sort of collage or doodle page and then you could release the whole piece as merch (a blanket would be awesome since I love buying those and could do with a new one, my current ones have Mortmort and Moriah Elizabeth art but both have tiny holes from the dog). It'd be something you could maybe do in a more vloggy form and chip away at over time so neither of you gets too fatigued or sore depending how many characters you included. I know that's a kinda specific idea but I think sharing ideas is fun anyway xD
I've been behind on Doodle Date vids (been a little depressed lol) but I actually have tried these crayons before and yeah I didn't love them too much. I really love the Pearl Crayola crayons I got at the same time though- they have a subtle shimmer, not super glittery but are sooo soft and smooth to lay down compared to regular crayons in my experience.
I got a box of 24 for free one time. I experimented with them only once, and they have been sitting in a drawer ever since. My experience with them was EXACTLY the same as yours. Dirty, smeary preschool crayons. Your art was so cute tho! somehow you made it work.
I've tried Crayola's Glitter crayons and they seem like the upgraded version of these ones. Although I will warn you, the glitter crayons have a learning curve because they have TOO MUCH glitter in them
I don’t know if I’m thinking about the right crayon or not, but I remember ones that had sparkles to it. They didn’t work well either. Love the cartoon characters you two have in the video! 😃
Some weeks ago i bought a pack of very cheap glitter felttip pens. There were 10 pens in there, black, gray and the rest shades of green. They were just 2€ and i thought they would suck. But NO they are amazing, they glitter soooo much and even have two tips; a flexible brushnip and a regular nip. I love buying cheap art supplies because you dont feel like ruining something expensive or dont feel bad if you dont use the supply too much. You often get suprised how good cheap art supplies can be! But these crayons would have made me so sad haha :")
I do in-app notifications but don't allow apps do phone-notifications because that's just stressful. I like scrolling through the notifications list when I open up the app again, though.
I also have a tremor!!! Higher hardness pencils that let me put more pressure in and still get a soft line can help me a lot, but you lose the ability to fully erase if you push too hard. Awful balance to maintain. Get a lot of criticism for the way I hold pencils too, but it's the only way I can use them smoothly.

I had the same experience with the glitter crayons. Crayola made glitter crayons back in the 90s that worked perfectly, somehow they regressed.
Have you tried the metallic crayons those are really cool they have a very fine glitter in them and color pretty easy without problems.

There are a few whitish colors, but like you really should have all 24 like Britian sucks.

I think it´s fitting, since Adamo is color blind, that the Claude Monet crayons looks like the color blindness testing pictures, the ones with a pattern of different colored dots and numbers hidden in the dot pattern. At least here in Sweden the test pictures looks like that. Is it the same in the UK?
I, coincidently, tried the confetti crayons. I thought I didn't like them because I was expecting it to look like, but I agree with Steph, it is just muddy.
These remind me of those multi-coloured pencil crayons- they seem pretty muddy in a very crayola fashion

This is the 2nd video of y'all's I've ever seen. Coincidentally, Steph's art style is similar to mine. I even also have a tremor! Unfortunately, I get really, really down on myself. Adam's compliments towards Steph's art heals my soul a lil'. Y'all have such a wholesome channel. Even when y'all have some bad art supplies, these videos are uplifting.

I feel like these are just rose art crayons because as a kid when I used rose art crayons I would get different colors mixed in.
There are Crayola crayons called "Crayola Swril" (I think they came out this year for back to school maybe) That I think are more like what you may have expected with these. However the packs do contain a lot of white for some reason, but they have more chunks of color like the other crayons you showed as an example in this video. Crayola also has swirl color pencils and the twisty crayons I think. I have personally seen them at Walmart, but as an American idk about anything UK other than yalls lemonade is fizzy which personally offends me😂. Anyways lovely video as always!!!!
I think the swirl crayons are just the confetti crayons rebranded. When i looked in the packs they are all the same names.

Edit (finished video): i also really love red velvet cake! But can never go wrong with a plain vanilla either. I usually like to get my red velvet cake with whipped vanilla frosting instead of cream cheese too!
Also, with crayola crayons i like to scrape off the top layer! It leaves a nice texture and makes the colours look more pale. I think that might help these guys maybe!
You can use a spoon or a butter knife, its a lot easier than using your fingernails. Even the flat back end of a wood colour pencil can work in a pinch!!

These remind me of the crayons we had in primary school that were kept in 1 Litre ice cream tubs so all the colours would rub against each other so you'd go to colour the sun and it'd end up yellow with flecks of green or something and all the people looked diseased xD It also seems like Crayola were trying to sell off the boo-boo crayons where the mixture was wonky and they got drips of the wrong colours in there and nothing mixed properly. Since they remind me of primary school I'd be tempted to do that thing where you use the crayons then go over them with dye or ink since that was a project we did several times back then. As always though the art you guys made with these is still super cute!
When I started watching your channel I literally lived on the other side of the world. I moved late in 2016 which is the year I started watching. I'm also literally 30 now and hoping I'll find a way to make this decade of my life better than the previous ones. Even though I've literally been an adult the whole time I've watched your channel it still feels a bit like I grew up watching it xD
I think in the spirit of the channel-versary it could be cute to redraw some of your old characters from over the years in one bigger drawing that you could work on together (like a Romantic Collab xD) maybe they could be having a party or it could be a sort of collage or doodle page and then you could release the whole piece as merch (a blanket would be awesome since I love buying those and could do with a new one, my current ones have Mortmort and Moriah Elizabeth art but both have tiny holes from the dog). It'd be something you could maybe do in a more vloggy form and chip away at over time so neither of you gets too fatigued or sore depending how many characters you included. I know that's a kinda specific idea but I think sharing ideas is fun anyway xD

I've been behind on Doodle Date vids (been a little depressed lol) but I actually have tried these crayons before and yeah I didn't love them too much. I really love the Pearl Crayola crayons I got at the same time though- they have a subtle shimmer, not super glittery but are sooo soft and smooth to lay down compared to regular crayons in my experience.
I got a box of 24 for free one time. I experimented with them only once, and they have been sitting in a drawer ever since. My experience with them was EXACTLY the same as yours. Dirty, smeary preschool crayons.

I've tried Crayola's Glitter crayons and they seem like the upgraded version of these ones.
Although I will warn you, the glitter crayons have a learning curve because they have TOO MUCH glitter in them

In my opinion
Some weeks ago i bought a pack of very cheap glitter felttip pens. There were 10 pens in there, black, gray and the rest shades of green. They were just 2€ and i thought they would suck. But NO they are amazing, they glitter soooo much and even have two tips; a flexible brushnip and a regular nip.
I love buying cheap art supplies because you dont feel like ruining something expensive or dont feel bad if you dont use the supply too much.
You often get suprised how good cheap art supplies can be! But these crayons would have made me so sad haha :")
I do in-app notifications but don't allow apps do phone-notifications because that's just stressful. I like scrolling through the notifications list when I open up the app again, though.
I also have a tremor!!! Higher hardness pencils that let me put more pressure in and still get a soft line can help me a lot, but you lose the ability to fully erase if you push too hard. Awful balance to maintain. Get a lot of criticism for the way I hold pencils too, but it's the only way I can use them smoothly.
Oh the drawings are so cute. But crayola really was a partypooper in this one😂
As someone who has tremors as well. I also find using pens a bit easier then pencils 😊
