I don't think we had such luxury on the Canadian Boblo Boat. It was a pretty qiuck ride from Amhurstburg. Sounds pretty darn good though! Thanks for the menmory!
Great memories from the Canadian side, too! Of course our trip over the Boblo was only a few minutes, but still fun. The rides were interesting and we would picnic in the park. It was convenient to have an amusement park so close by. Times change, eh? :) Thanks for the comment!
Growing up in Amherstburg I spent my summers working at the Boblo marina or on the small ferries that shuttled visitors to the island from south of town. My father worked for McQueen Marine which operated next to where the current ferry dock is located.
I grew up on Grosse Ile, and lived there until 1977 when my family moved to east Tennessee. I remember the Boblo boats, albeit the memories are hazy. One thing that I don't recall is if the boats ever ran from Grosse Ile, or did we have to go to the mainland to catch one?
From my search , the Boblo boats did not pick up passengers from Grosse Ile. Instead, as you thought, people had to go to the mainland to catch the boats to Bob-Lo Island. I like picking up little tidbits of information from comments like yours. Thanks!
@@bobjonesrealtor7756 You are correct. I spoke with my older sister yesterday, and she confirmed that we would drive to Wyandotte to catch the boat. Thanks for the reply!
Used to love that place as a kid. We'd get on a triple-tiered ferry in Detroit which was already loads of fun. And in about an hour we'd be in a paradise rides and ice cream and adventure. I miss it a lot.
Boblo is Canadian. However Americans can purchase property in Canada. I don't think there is a ferry from the American side anymore so if commuting it would be a long daily drive. It would take approx. an hour to reach the Ambassador Bridge and a few minutes longer to the tunnel. But yeah a great place to retire. I guess the answer is either. :) Thanks for the query!
I loved the boat ride to the island. The ice cream sandwich on the boat made using waffles it was delicious, wish I had one now.

Tears😢😭Boblo Island was so special❤️❤️❤️
Hi masbradley. It sure was. :)
The ferry ride and the island are great memories when living in Detroit. That was many years ago.

Hi @neilcoligan8621. That's cool. Maybe you ferried me across when I was a kid. Thanks for the memory.

I miss it ,too. Our Boblo boat wasn't triple tiered but, it was still a great part of the adventure. Thanks for the comment:).
If you lived on the island, would you be considered an American or a Canadian?
