"The minigames are good, like really good" "The boards in Mario Party 7 are with the exception of Windmillville all really good" Then "Mario Party 7 is painfully average" ???
Yeah ratings are a bit weird lol
Yeah he says the boards and minigames are great but then at the end hes like its average like what?
It takes more than good boards and minigames to make a game really great though. Look at MP2, it’s simpler and also has a good item system and does the same things as 7. MP6 also has good boards, solid minigames, a great item system and flows pretty well. I think it’s fair that as outlined in the video, 7’s pacing is ruined by Bowser Time, random duelling, single player minigames and a tier list of characters. It comes really close to being great but falls short and is therefore average. Still lots of fun to play though
@@matthewwilliams4569 personally I think REALLY good board and REALLY good minigames IS enough to make a game good. It's not necessarily enough to make it the BEST, but I think hitting both of those two major things really well is enough to make the game good on it's own (unless there is a unique circumstance).
I don't really mind most of those complaints that you say about 7, all of those are secondary elements compared to boards and minigames which are the top two things that matter to me and 7 hits at least triples to homeruns with both of them.
I actually don't mind a lot of the issues individually in 7, but I will say that the combination of all of them is a little bit much. I agree with this UA-camr on single-player minigames, those are just awful.
To be honest I don't really mind the "tier list of characters", I think that issue is blown out of proportion. Mario Kart Double Dash in essence has a tier list of racers but nobody complains about that, yet the conventional wisdom is to bash 7 for this. There are so many things that go into Mario Party and winning Mario Party. I think it's more unfair for someone to steal TEN stars from someone else because of the round of miracles than it is for someone to have a slightly better orb which is often an opinion.
The dueling mechanic doesn't really bother me either, it's kind of interesting twice to me, it's just a different perspective. First you play a competitive duel game than obviously both players are going to compete in since they don't know what they will lose if they don't win, and then the slot of stupendousness is spun which may or may not shake up the game. Once again I would rather play a duel minigame and not win anything than I would lose TEN stars due to luck from the round of miracles/chance time.
Bowser Time is also not as bad as some people think to me, it's just annoying more than anything. In fact on Bowser's Enchanted Inferno it's actually a good thing. The way that board incorporates him sinking the island of the star is cool to me. The only time Bowser Time really sucks to me that I recall is if you are right in front of the 3 star chain chomp in Pyramid Park and Bowser takes your money, that's just awful.
I think this game is definitely above average, but there's no reason that anyone has to say that it's the best by any means.
3 and 6 which are often viewed as the "best" games have way more stupid minigames in my opinion than 7. I'm just going to focus on 6 now since I played 7 before 6 and everyone told me that 6 was better. I made a list of TERRIBLE minigames in 6 but I don't think I will list of all them but I'll give you a few.
Ray of Fright, Gondola Glide, Banana Shake, Treasure Trawlers and Pitifall are EGREGIOUSLY horrible horrible minigames in minigames in my opinion, worse than any minigame in 7. Then we also have Odd Cart Out, Light Breeze, Wrasslin' Rapids, Body Builder, Crate and Peril, Pop Star, Mass Meteor, and Cash Flow/Cashapult which are either not fun or slightly broken to me. It feels like the developers didn't put enough time into these minigames and that they were rushed to make a certain date. Stupid minigames are a waste of my time.
The only minigames in 7 that I think suck besides the mic minigames are Cointagious, and then maybe Deck Hands and Spray Anything. There's a couple more broken and unfair ones but I still find them fun.
So that's my reasoning. At this moment I go 7>DS>8>6>the rest for the ones I like.
How about you?
I'd take 7 over 5 anyday
Same with my mod. You should go check it out
I think you definitely missed quite a few pros in your review. Such as how Bowser and DK spaces are no longer the same space, making each board have a bigger variety of spaces to be landed on at one point. I also think that the 8-Player stuff is very cool and is 100% another pro.
I strongly feel that Mario Party DS should be included in this series for being the last game in the series made by Hudson, as well as turning the post-modern duology into a trilogy.
He's said he would review the handheld games but he can't currently record footage of ds, GBA and 3ds games.
@@nascour5991 If he is able to get a hand on a complete Gameboy Player package, he could record the Mario Party Advance footage

“Grand Canal is the board you’d be proud to bring home to your parents.”
I mean, I would show it to my parents ahaha
Mario Party 7 is my top-favorite game, which makes Mario Party 2 second. With 88 minigames, it's so hard to list them all. I like Pyramid Park, Neon Heights, and Windmillville. I like the minigames that relate to the Boos, Bullet Bills, and Bob-ombs.
When is the Mario Party 8 review coming out?
im also awaiting a review of the second best mario party game
@@meep6508 The Mario Party 8 video already came out
Really enjoying these retrospectives. Mario Party has been one of my favorite spin off series ever, and it’s surprising how few channels actually talk in depth about the series, so I’m glad I found you. Really looking forward to your views on the final Hudson console Mario Party game.
And I suppose my own rankings since everyone else seems to be doing them: 6, 2, 7, 3, Super, 5, 1, 4, 8, 10, 9
Is this worst to best or best to worst?
Nintendo Boy Best to worst
I'd probably put super below 5 honestly
Great video! I love Mario Party 7 and you did a great job of reviewing it.
24:03 Well someone likes even numbers
It could just be that he genuinely thinks that 2, 4, and 6 are the best Mario Party games and they happen to all have that same property of numbers.
@@courtemanche437
Gee, ya think?
I'm bad at sensing jokes
Ironically, 7 is one of my all-time favorite Mario Party games in spite of its "carbon copy of 6" status mainly because of the whole World Tour theme it took on. Somehow, I think that was the inspiration for Super Mario Odyssey in some way.
It’s almost sad to see that not as many people adore Mario Party 7. Growing up with this game, I always thought it was the best Mario party, probably because the only other one I played was Mario party 9 which was trash. I have many fond memories of this game but I’m starting to see why people don’t like it as part of the Mario Party franchise. It’s very different from the others, and I feel like being introduced to this game first gave me an almost alien-like perspective on the series as a whole
I agree with you since this was the one I played the most growing up, I had played 3 prior to this one tho. Having replayed as an adult, it's just not all the board gimmicks feel all that fun I'd say (and every map has some kind of big gimmick), and Bowser Time is really annyoying. I still love most of the minigames tho, and Pagoda Peak really is peak
Fantastic series. I personally missed out on MP4 & MP6 so it's really interesting to see them compared with the rest of the series.
When can we expect the Mario Party 8 review?
Mario Party 7 sharing so many elements from 6 makes it such a double edged sword. On one hand, 6 is a goddamn masterpiece, so 7 is better off for copying so much of it. On the other hand, nearly everything new and unique 7 brings to the table is questionable at best, so it makes one wonder why they should ever choose it over 6 when they want their MP fix.
I guess the only reason would be either you got bored of MP6's boards or want to try out MP7's solo mode.
I highly disagree that MrCowfood finds no redeeming values in Mario Party 7. On my head, there are a few elements in this final gamecube entry worth salvaging:
1. Toadsworth being a worthy host. As he said of him being a familiar face, this is too a character we've known since Super Mario Sunshine that's familiar to many.
2. Solo cruise. Fact of the matter is it provides the option of human player interaction of competing against that the other gamecube entries lack and being exclusive to Hudson's last developed title on the gamecube before Wii makes it special
3. Bowser's Enchanted Inferno Bowser time. Yes this is the one Bowser time event that doesnt completely suck and it provides you with 2 options. Either take the risk of snatching the star within 5 turns or hold out and get off the star selected island to avoid losing half your coins
4. Aside from the games he chose in the form of Spider Stomp, Cardinal Rule and Battery Ram, I'd also salvage Fun Run, Spinner Cell, Ballonatic, Pyramid Scheme and Oil Crisis. Pil Ceisis to me is the best microphone minigame of Mario Party 7 since it and Clock Watchers force you to plan carefully. The former is a car race with random planted oil drums and oil spills while the latter is a visual memory to guess as close to your random selected time to get a low score
Idk. The new boards and their gimmicks, mini games, signature items for characters, 8 player mini games, and much better mic mini games don’t seem so “questionable at best” to me. Lol
8 player mode
It's has more to offer. Basically the better mp 6
1. Maybe it's just a preference thing, but if the Star economy is cheaper, I don't think removing 1 Star would be too much damaging, although I can see the issue of removing Stars through RNGn although them always typically targeting the 1st placer means you can plan around it so that you have to get a significant enough lead (which in Mario Parties seem to be the case for the most part for really good players).
2. Also Slot of Stupendusness is more like Chance Time than a traditional Duel Game, but less of the RNG. I will agree Chance Time could be incorporated, but I think a half-chance where you either need a duel to decide who benefits, or just either arrow.
3 I will say the Bowser Spaces are the most dangerous here though, where the risk are always the loss of half coins at best or lose a Star at worst, which makes the Bowser Bridge event in Grand Canal the one you wish to avoid.
4. While I do agree the Mic Space doesn't seem necessary, you can still play it with a controller, and I felt the 4-Player Mic Minigames are pretty cool, especially if you have human players that play with you (or pretend the CPUs are humans) as they would be funny to watch, which fits that pacing.
The windmill stage inspired koopas tycoon town
I had 0 clue I commented on this video at all
Instant subscribe. This channel is supreme.
At least you could still play Mic minigames with a controller menu list rather than requiring it.
You forgot the happening space with the squid, offers a star too
You mean Blooper?
Am I the only who's in love with Bowser time and okay with Bowser stealing a star, just me... okay
If I'm not mistaken you can also get stars from the rocket happening space in neon heights and the flaming lion happening space on Pagoda peak too! Also you can technically play the mic minigames with a controller, even toadsworth's fruit card game.
Yes that is correct as well as the juggling blooper in Grand canal.
Nintendo should release a “greatest hits” Mario party, with all the audience favorite boards across the whole series, with more customization than ever before. You can omit any mini games from any entry, add mini games from any other entries, choose which randomly selected bonus stars are randomly selectable or mandatory inclusions and how many bonus stars there are, etc. And with A selection of maps similar to how they added the bottom four Grand Prix options in Mario kart games that feature remastered tracks from old games, there’s almost no creative work that needs to be put in. They could also do online polls for which boards from each game were fan favorites to figure out what they should include.
I can't take you seriously with the (edited)
@@HIHi-dd9yx That sounds like a you problem
@@anthonycannet1305 Im just saying my dude, I think it is completely possible that your comment could of been real.
Man I don't remember this Mario Party at all. And I should because I know I played every Mario Party. I guess I only played it for a few days.
Personal board rankings
6. Pyramid park(worse snowflake lake, with an awful duel system and a weaker bone orb. Also gets repetitive after 30-35 turns)
5. Windmillville(Interesting investing board but gets repetitive after 30 turns)
4. Grand canal(Good standard board but bowser time and the bowser games take way too long)
3. Pagoda peak(Interesting linear board and lots of stars can get gotten. My only flaw is that it takes way too long to play due to the animations and several character spaces)
2. Bowser’s enchanted inferno(Very high scoring map and decent events but the star positions sometimes are too close to each other)
1. Neon heights(Although it’s luck based it has an interesting concept and lots of fun board events, my only flaw, once again is that it takes a while to play because of the stars shuffling every turn)
Cons
1. Duel system is changed
2. Bowser time
3. 4 player Mic games
4. Single player Bowser and DK minigames(you can turn them off for AI but still getting stars handed to you is BS).
5. Random bonus stars
6. Character specific orbs(Especially as a Yoshi player. However I have Boo or Toadette for team mode as well)
Pros
1. Great minigames(Track and Yield/Fun run/Spider stomp/Ice moves)
2. Good orb choices(board specific ones)
3. 8 player mode
4. Mic spaces
My ranking:6/2/3/7/4/5/1
The mic space is a good way to get coins
"whenever something is incredible it gets a sequel" lies, or there would be a third season of Dirk Gently.
I can't wait until MP8 comes.

The reason why i hate Mario party 2.
Cause i basicly was soft locked in the minigame rollercoaster cause i NEVER was able to beat that blasted Mecha Marathon mini game
I love the Bojack Horseman reference.
whats the music name when he said pros and cons
What the hell does Bostonian mean
All the single player minigames are baby easy. Bowser isn’t even a threat and dk gives away a free star
You can use the controller instead of the mic you can change this in the settings
this review is pretty good, and I can't really think of much to add on. though to be fair, I did point out some of the same critiques you mentioned as you were livestreaming some of your recording sessions, so I can't say I'm surprised. though one thing I would like to point out is how hard of a grind it is to "complete" the game, via the cruise mileage points and duty-free shop. it's bad to the point where it feels like a deliberate way to pad out the runtime of the game. MP6 started this via the star bank, and despite that game actually being good, I'd still say the concept of the system was about as bad. but there are a couple things that saved MP6 from the problem at-hand. one of those being that the game is good enough to keep replaying, and therefore some of the grind feels justified. the other being that the solo mode in MP6 can be cheesed to rack up tons of stars, which helps soften the blow of the grind. maybe you can testify to this since you've more recently played the game, but from what I recall there isn't the same convenience to grind cruise mileage points in MP7. combine that with the inflation of prices in cruise mileage points, and this seems to be result: from the numbers I've gathered, at max you can grind out roughly 2000 points per run of the king of the river, which in itself is an unlockable. not counting king of the river itself, there are 31500 cruise points left on the table, which would require roughly 16 full river runs (30 minigames), and therefore playing ~480 minigames at MINIMUM in order to consistently unlock everything. and just to top it off, solo mode itself barely helps, as you only get roughly 500-600 points if you win. on paper, this feels like a relentless slog that's designed in the hopes that completionists will take the bait and waste their time. combine this with the mind-numbing mediocrity of the game as a whole, and it feels like the problem is a lot bigger than it ever was in MP6. I would keep an eye out for this issue in MP8, as it too has a functionally-identical system to the duty-free shop and star bank.
With all that said, I'd put my ranking so far as follows: 5 < 7 < 4 < 1 < 6 < 2 < 3. I wouldn't say it's as bad as 5, in fact nowhere close, but I'll agree with the point that it's worse than 4, albeit on possibly different merits. while though MP4 had, what I believe to be, an absolutely egregious board design and a questionable-at-best item overhaul, the new "additions" to MP7 are all an active parasite to the series. bowser time, randomized duels, tier listed characters, hamfisting the mic feature, single-player minigames, etc. are all "new" features, and yet they all actively hurt the game. consider it this way: if modders figure out how to mod custom boards into MP4 and tweak the mega/mini mechanic to be less needlessly intrusive, then I'd say the game is a solid entry. this is a similar reasoning to why I defend MP3 as the best, as modding in new boards to that game removes the black sheep of the board design. meanwhile, fixing MP7 would boil down to removing and undoing so many dumb changes made by hudson, that it begs the question of why the game even exists in the first place. in the end, it comes back to my same reasoning for saying 4 < 1: the needless reinventions of the wheel are mindboggling and not something I will accept. however unlike MP4, these problems can't merely be fixed through refined tweaks and custom content. I can accept MP4 existing as I think there is some genuine merit to be extracted from it, but I can't say that anyone would be worse-off if MP7 never existed as we know it. unfortunately, past DS, I think this entry marks the beginning of the end for the series that we all hoped this would turn into. but alas, I believe we'll see more proof of that in MP8.
Good comment. I agree for the most part but 7 still has a lot of 6's identity so I'd still rank it higher than 4 or 1. 1 is simply too devoid of player choice to make it fun, imo.
@@WaddleDee105 fair point, I personally put 1 right in the middle as I view it as more of a "true neutral" entry than it actual being good it or not. it's what started the series in the first place, and I think it deserves some credit on that merit. I also try to use it as some baseline for when I think a game in the series takes definitive steps back compared to prior entries, as my opinion is operating from the POV that each game should be building off its predecessors as the series progresses. so when I think a game like 4, 5, or 7 moves backwards as a net product, it's why I put them below 1. but if we're being totally objective here, then I'd say 1 is literally the worst so far, solely because it's the most primitive and least advanced entry.
@@bvni That makes sense. Interesting thought process for ranking them.
MP7 > MP4. The latter has unbearable pacing especially when playing at 50Hz. Boards are uninspired and samey, and the mushrooms were a horribly executed gimmick that only serve to frustrate as opposed to enhancing the gameplay especially with friends.

I’m a little biased as Mario party 4 was my first game ever, but the boards aren’t uninspired. The only one that sucked was the Boo level, but the others had fun happening spaces and gimmicks like the roulette wheel in the Goomba level or the dolphins in the Koopa level.
I disagree with Neon Heights’ rating.
It seems if the player's emphasis is quickness then MP7 isn't for them, and because I'm not usually a quick type of player (hence why Sinnoh in Pokemon don't bother as much) the events in Neon Heights at least are interactive - and I find the Mini-Game Island criticism odd when the point of you being stopped is that you should practice as you keep on falling, making clearing the Island actually feel big.
The Koopa master looks like Kroop from TTYD

I don't quite understand why you like chance time but you think that adding the slot of stupendousness as a chance mechanic is bad.
Makes sense to me. If you’re gonna battle somebody, at least give me a reward. Or let me put up a reward, but don’t give me the chance of me landing on a space and then give me the chance to get something, or nothing. Kinda stupid IMO. Let me either put down something to win/lose that to get a high reward rather than me spend 1-2 minutes on a mini game for me to end up with nothing :/ I hate the chance time on Mario party 4 but it gives the game a lot more depth as it can make you rags to riches in like 2 seconds without a mini game, as opposed to this game where you gotta play a mini game and still get nothing
@@misteretv1032 it sounds like you don't like to duel and get no reward which makes sense. At the same time, if people don't like the chance element of the slot of stupendousness I don't get how they would like the chance element of chance time which has drastically higher stakes.
