    in case anyone is wondering:
    1. that amani oil (アマニ油) miwa used for her natto is flaxseed oil.
    2. fellow subscribers who watch her videos regularly may also be familiar with a so-called egoma oil (えごま/エゴマ油) which she uses occasionally in her recipes. egoma (えごま/エゴマ) is 'perilla seed' in english, so it's perilla seed oil or just perilla oil (short term) :)
those of you who are also into korean cuisine may be familiar with perilla leaves. they are similar in taste to shiso leaves which are used in japanese cuisine, but not the same thing. the oil carries the same wonderful flavor as the leaves and koreans use it for cooking, too. it's called deulgireum (들기름) in korean.
it's absolutely delicious, i highly recommend it! (try it in combination with a dash of sesame oil, some toasted sesame seeds and a pinch of salt on blanched (leafy) vegetables, it tastes absolutely divine!💖💖)
anyway, you can find perilla oil at your local asian grocery store or online. in germany (where i live), i have only ever seen korean brands of perilla oil being sold; most of the time, it's from the brand "ottogi" (오뚜기).
miwa-san, thank you for sharing your recipe ideas with us; these sound great and i need to give them a try!!😊 another great video as always :)
i noticed that i recognized a lot of them like the tomato lentil soup and the creamy miso soup. must be because i bingewatched your videos in the past two weeks when i was recovering at home from a big wisdom teeth surgery😂😊 the only thing i could think about was: "as soon as i have recovered completely, i will try out miwa-san's recipes; they look way too good!😍"

Thank you for this video, Miwa! My favourite fermented food at the moment is Korean kimchi, I can eat the whole jar just by itself as a snack. I also love miso paste and miso soup. Your gut health videos are so informative and inspiring! I love how you always start the day with a big and nourishing breakfast. I usually do not have a big appetite in the mornings and have a light breakfast, but I often have natto with some flax seeds for omega-3. I tried natto after watching your videos and I really like it! I have only found frozen natto in a local Japanese shop in London but I want to try fresh natto some day, I wonder if it has a stronger taste. Other fermented foods I love are kimchi, miso, kefir, kombucha and tempeh :)

Natto is hard to find here. Only in Asian stpores and mostly frozen. I'm not the biggest fan of natto becaus I have problems swallowing the neba neba texture (same with fineliy chopped okra and tororo for example) but still want to try making like a oyaki natto thing. I'm more for tsukemono. I tried making quickly pickled daikon (it still takes 5 days but its a good takuan substitute) and that was delicious. we usually have some pickled dutch vegetables in my kitchen (augurk, ilver uitjes, amsterdamse uienen). And I love making aji tama. i have so many recipes, different marinates hahaha My daughter loves oatmeal stuff. I started making oats pancakes which can also be frozen for easy breakfast for her on a busy day. And se loves overnight oats and chia seed pudding. Not the typical Dutch breakfast but it's healthy :) Leftover rice usually is turned into rice pancakes. just mix 1 bowl of cooked rice with one egg and the seasonings of your chores and bake 2 to 3 pancakes. tey freeze well as well and go well in bento. or use to make a burger, substituting the buns.
I love ume from the first time I tried it. can even eat them as a snack hahaha. I make a cabbage salad with it by chopping ume and mixing with mayo and some mentsuyu. chopped cabbage and perhaps salad chicken or tuna or just as it is. Easy side dish.
I have learned to incorporate the 80% full principle, it's easy to make sure your not overeat that way.
Yes musubi kiln is amazing they have such beautiful products!! totally recommended.
We don't have a daiso here unfortunately so I always go to Kinshicho when back in Tokyo and buy way too much hahaha
Here schools and everything is returning back to normal, but I have homeschooled for long periods in the last 2 years. I usually put the days work ready the night before and try to keep the regular school schedule. And work in the kitchen and let her work on her own makes me able to do my household chores and things and she learns to work on her own and solve problems.

@@MiwasJapaneseCooking For the oats pancakes mix 60 grams oats with 100 ml (plantbased) milk, 2 eggs, 2 tsp. baking powder and if you like 1 tbsp sweetner like honey. It makes about 4 pancakes (I usually double the recipe and have it in the refrigerator or freezer). Bake in the fyring pan with a bit of oil.

I found your simple vegetable-dashi soup recipe especially helpful. I often struggle to create enough deep flavour in the soup when boiling some vegetables together despite the clear health benefits.
Often I start with a vegetable broth made earlier. I think adding dashi and then seasoning with mirin/soy etc could really "lift" the flavours in my soups however. Thank you! I also might try to add those and some Kombu based broth and see if that adds another dimension also.
As for gut health, Kimchi is especially healthy and extremely tasty. I read that kimchi has a specific type of probiotic bacteria making it more of a superfood along with Avocado, Blueberries, Salmon and Kale/Spinach (deep greens) for example.
Your breakfast recipes are helpful as I wish to move away from bread (Sourdough if eating) and I am no longer eating cereal though I might make my own muesli from time to time (with more fruits and nuts added). Eating some rice + eggs with sauces or soups seem to be very palatable and delicious and nutritious options in the morning. It seems a simple way to improve the quality of one's day by paying more attention to a wholesome breakfast meal.

I'd like to have the time to make a different breakfast in the mornings, but alas I don't. So I'm on protein porridge with a banana 5 -7 days a week, sometimes swapping it for protein pancakes on the weekend.

porridge with banana.... I've never tried that but it sounds like a dessert to me!!! YUM!! Maybe, I can try with oats^^ Thank you for your idea!!

@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Yeh you just slice it up into the oats and cook everything together. Makes the banana nice and soft while adding sweetness to the porridge so not really a need for sugar.

I usually make onigiri with leftover rice, but now I want to try porridge! I also really want to try Natto, but I can't find it anywhere, not on Amazon, not even at the big Asian grocer near me either. :'(

Did you try the freezer section of the Asian supermarket? That's where I found natto - I'm in Ireland.

@@makeemar I just searched on their website, but maybe it's possible the website is only for items that can be shipped? I'll have to check it out. Thank you for the tip!! Did you like it? It seems to me like it would be something that grows on you (like dulse) and you end up loving it (like dulse lol).

@@celticlass8573 it's possible! I had it twice so far, first time years ago and the smell was quite bad to be honest. This time the natto I had wasn't so stinky, but had bitterness to it - maybe it was from the mustard - you get a little packet to mix in. The neba neba (sticky) texture can also be challenging for some! Overall I still don't know if I like it or hate it haha 😅
