Great orientation, I have experienced many rejections because all of my professional experience is as a Business owner and Freelance Consultant, here I have seen how to present it better
Thank you so much for this! I'm a recent graduate with a master's in Disaster Resilience, but all my work experience is in education. This video reminded me to highlight my volunteering with the Red Cross and talk about the skills I acquired from my college clubs.
All the best with that! Keep in mind - you’re resume should also always be tailored to the specific job posting - and using similar vocabulary! Let us know how it goes, alternatively - happy to do a deeper dive with you - www.mkthatchange.com/career-deck-coaching
This is very : good, detailed, and explicit. I say weldone for the video. I will be very grateful if you can help to send one or two templates that can serve as a vivid yardstick.
You guys are great. This video is relevant and concise , whether your a new immigrant or a resident just entering the work force. Recently in Canada there has been a movement to require mandatory volunteer work from high school students before they get there diploma. In the past however , I believe that preference is given to people who volunteer. In fact I believe it to also be a sort of silent networking. That is. If you volunteer with Lions Club , Legion , Saint John’s Ambulance. If the person hiring , volunteers with those organizations or has worked with them in the past. Your chances of being hired increase.
Oh that’s so interesting! Thanks for sharing Tom, and also thanks for your support, I indeed think that it’s not a bad thing to encourage people to volunteer - it’s fulfilling to give back!
Hi! May I ask you a couple of questions? 1. How to get volunteer experience from abroad? Do I need LMIA even if I'm not supposed to be paid for the volunteering job? I can perform data analysis remotely. 2. Some recruiters advise to play safe and send resume in .doc format, whereas others encourage to convert resume into .pdf. What would you advice and why?
Hey Safran - thanks for your question! 1. You do not need LMIA for volunteer work. Find some organizations ( non-for profit) or companies that employ volunteers AND that you would like to work with, and reach out to them. 2. most software supports pdf format - it's become very common. Alternatively, pay attention at the application specifications - sometimes they will be explicit about the resume format. If they aren't - pdf all the way!

Dear Anastasia, please, If you could help me, the updated experience part in my resume is this: Think E Chorrillos 2022-Ongoing English&Dance Coach • Teaching English language to kids. • Teaching and coaching kids in ballet and contemporary dance. Which is better to put? "Ongoing" or "present"? I also have seen in some samples "Teaching" and in others "Taught"; but it is the present time, so I'm not sure. Thanks for your support :)

Your last tip of proof-reading ❤loved it. I had a small question. So, for someone who is about to get the PR and is currently outside Canada. When we make our CVs, it's difficult to put a Canadian number or adress. So, do u think mentioning PR holder would work in landing a job (considering skills match).
I would recommend to not put a number or address. just the city in which you are looking for a job + email. If you really want to, you can at least put “permanent resident” somewhere in the cv.

Thank you for such a nice information, Question about Header Section- putting an address Does the employer prefer those candidates who are applying from Canada?
@@MakeThatChange Im currently working as a Business Analyst but overall job experience including different roles is 15 years. I do understand that we have to minimize or not even mention the non-relevant ones but what do I write in terms of my current responsibilities that may highlight the specific role that i am applying for, should I minimize it too? How about the achievements I got while performing the role, I put them in bullet points, should I minimize the number of bullets? The challenge of over-fitting my cv just to minimize the pages is just a bit too much. What do you think? I would try to minimize the words and summarize stuff a bit based on your recommendations.
I would suggest to stay away from just reciting your responsibilities. Do write a couple of sentences about your overall general role, and try to capture your other responsibilities as part of your achievements. In the end of the day everyone is expected to do what their roles require them, what makes you stand out is which achievement you collect along the way. Your less relevant experience can still be summarized, I would suggest to aggregate your previous experience into one role and do a summary of them all in one section if you do decide to stick to 3 pages, try to keep the most relevant experience you're proud of on page 1!

Hello Anastasia and Anna, love your content! Your videos about Canada are one of the most useful on YT! I have a small question, I'm a recent graduate and only have experience of internships but i don't really have any achivements during my internships. Is it a good idea to write "Working as a team with other interns increased efficiency by helping the office process and file many more court cases..." as an achievement?(I was doing my internships in various courts). Also if i was offered a real job during my internship is it a good idea to write that into achivements? Thank you very much for your videos!
It is definitely a good idea to write about being offered a job while your internship - it shows you did your job well, and your skills were valued! I would change your thinking about achievements - is there something you're really proud of, personally during your internship?
@@MakeThatChange Thank you for your reply! I didn’t do something I’m really proud of during my internships but I’ve counted the amount of work that I did better than the others and wrote that into CV. For those who have similar situation, I wrote in my CV 1st “Helped the litigation office to process and archive 80% more court cases within a month” and 2nd “ Ensured metriculous attention to detail while stitching and formatting court cases, minimising errors and maintaining 90% of accuracy rate”.
