I met a fellow up there a few years back. He swore by the boatman flies. I think he went by Toolman. Anyway we used some of the flies he gave us and caught fish
It really depends on the water and weather. We generally like to have natural toned patterns, and darker patterns for most days, but white and yellow, chartreuse, red... they all have their moments.
Yah we always do. Even though it's legal here in Alberta to fish with barbs, we still pinch them. Easier on the fish and on us when we happen to stick ourselves.
Hi Chris. I’m experimenting with cased Caddis. I know there is a huge variation in size but how big would you go for southern alberta. Would you go as big as 1 inch in length ?
I would not go that big personally (although mop flies do work just fine). But our cased caddis tend to be more like 1/2 an inch to 3/4. We often find these bigger caddis in some of our smallest waters ironically.
I just discovered your channel. i see you got a tackle shop. and i need lots of leaders and flies to start out fishing the bow. whats your store name? ill see if your close to me and ill come check you guys out!
Thanks for watching! We are located in Calgary, Alberta. If you are near by come take a look. The shop name is the same channel, Bow River Troutfitters.

Thanks Chris, spot on as always!
I recall years ago black or dark flies were the ticket on bow river, is that still so?

Even though a lot of these are very small, are you still pinching the barbs?
Always.

buddy why is the guy from the camera videos in the fishing videos. this guy is following me hobby to hobby.
You ever fish the 'bow river butt fk' down by legacy?
We like to fish with whatever the flies the trout are eating on. Seems like a big part of fly fishing on the Bow is simply changing flies constantly.
I like the purple ones🎣
