Happy birthday Tom. One of the best angling discussion l have heard in a long time. Your opinions are both right. Tom, great thinker. Alan, you are so humble. Love your podcasts. 💜

I used to fish with my Uncle, and no matter where we went,Witham,Ancholme etc,he always fished the same tackle, same floats etc.He caught a few but because my Dad showed me what floats did this or that etc he always caught less than us.Then he discovered Wentworth lakes, his tackle, floats etc suited this venue down to a tee.The distance he fished, his shotting etc As a consequence he caught more fish than ever before. It was a real joy to see him really enjoying himself.Dad and Uncle both dead now,but i often think about Wentworth. In fact i bought a permit this season.Happy Birthday Tom,i will be 67 in October, keep going m8.

I won a magazine competition many years ago and the prize was a day with Bob Nudd at Billy Makins.
To say Bob not only worked out how the fish wanted the feed very quickly etc but during a catching spell changed the frequency and quantity of feed to catch how & where HE wanted to catch. Not like I'd been doing, trying to chase where they were but HE caught them how he wanted. Amazing to witness !

Happy Birthday Tommy, I love watching your tutorials and I have learnt a lot from them. Thanks for all your help and advice, I hope you continue fishing and making tutorials for a lot longer and I will hopefully improve my own fishing.

Brilliant video lads commented on a few videos too be fair that top anglers have something special, a sixth sense maybe, when they need to change bait, tactics or depth to catch more fish and normal anglers can't compete.... Tommy Pickering absolute legend... Well done guys 👍

Great video guys. I would like to mention Jimmy Burns from the North West. Now I fished the North West canal circuit ,done ok but as you mentioned some people just did it without thinking and Jimmy was / is one of those angler's, for example he would change from Punch to pinkies 15 minutes before everyone else while we were starting to think about it and catch those bonus fish .
    Thanks again

TV angling pundit Keith Arthur declared on Tight Lines that "the sign of a good match angler is one who makes a plan and sticks to it". On another episode he stated that "the sign of a good match angler is one who is willing to change a plan if it's not working".

Honesty….many anglers blame everything apart from themselves..weather it be rig ..peg ..conditions..ect ect …the better angler will nearly always find a way of getting the most out of the peg they draw on the day…if we fail learn from it and adapt nx time you fish…😉

a good angler and a good match angler are two very different things... a great general angler is a whole different thing than a great carp or match angler.. some things will be the same though..

John Illingworth! A real trip down memory lane.We both worked at Hepworth and Grandage. He once told me,on the Calder as I recall, that his favourite style of fishing was running a quill float down a river using a centrepin.Lovely guy.
