- I’m in Oslo, isolating from mostly everything right now, except from my boyfriend and the forest! I’m one of those potentially vulnerable to the virus because of my pre-existing condition (lupus) but I’ve been symptom free for several years, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be safe.
BUT I won’t take any chances! Life’s so wonderful, and I also know how horrible it is to be really sick for long periods of time, so I’m keeping my distance as long as I see it necessary. And I don’t want to unknowingly give it to someone else either, so since I can, I’m taking a time out from gatherings of people (I do know that not everyone has the opportunity to stay home 24/7).
At the moment I am lucky, as an artist, because my album-release and tour is not on until the Fall of 2020. I hope with all my heart that we’ll be okay by then! I can’t wait to perform this album for you live.. But a lot of my artist friends have just released albums and tours. So please support them in any way that you can! There are a lot of online live shows, where you can donate to the musicians. Or stream their music like a teenager would! On repeat!
As everyone keep saying, be responsible and show solidarity to your fellow humans, follow the instructions of social distancing and isolate yourself if you have any symptoms in the time to come. And be kind to each other.
I think a lot of people are worried and even scared (including me), and a typical reaction is to project that fear into aggression, especially online. It’s also easy to get irrational, so If someone bought a lot of toilet paper in panic, they’ll realize it eventually, and there’s nothing good in shaming them for that. Btw toilet paper is something you’ll need ALL YOUR LIFE, if nothing better comes along, (like a Japanese toilet for everyone!) so it’s not the worst to pile up is it? There are worse things to hoard.. like medication you don’t need or medical equipment. That's definitely not ok.
I hope we’ll learn a lot from this time. We have to! And it’s probably going to be hard to say that ”it’s impossible to adapt” when we speak of the climate crisis in the future. This crisis has at least shown us that we are able to adapt when we have to. And that we’re in it together, as humans. Everyone’s affected. People have to take in the urgency of the climate crisis, just as we are doing now with this virus.
Ideally we will have the chance to adapt in a more controlled yet tight schedule, so that our societies are not so economically and socially struck as they are probably going to be from this sudden semi-to-complete lock-down.
As I’m in isolation, I’m enjoying video conferences with friends and family, and for instance, I think people will see that a lot of work that used to ”demand” travelling, now can be done online. I just discovered wherebymeetings , the free version works really well for groups up to 4.
