In past shorts a while back i covered the early design of stolas when he was a villain, along with stella’s pilot design.
The one character i forgot was octavia. I’ll cover her in this one.
So we see octavia’s original design in a portrait of the pilot. But her character sheet gives us a better look. So owlet octavia has a light gradient in her hair, and the pilot design had this in grown up octavia, which they got rid of in the full show.
Octavia had a crown instead of her beanie, and her cardigan was actually a part of her feathers.
There’s a couple minor changes as well, like the stars on her outfit and her hair being a bit shorter. Her overall face looks slightly different, especially her makeup and eyelashes.
Like with stella i think her final version was a huge improvement. What do you think? Let me know down below.

I think the former design looks more regal, and the new one looks more defined and teenlike

Original Octavia looks like an alternate version of her if she never had an emo phase.

I do like the whitish feathers at the end of her hair. It shows you that she does have a bit of Stella in her

Eh, it kinda makes her look like a baby though, as Stolas had some brighter plumage when he was younger and it darkened over time.
I think she resembles Stella a lot already. She doesn't look like Stolas almost at all
Well, she's still had the eyes and, don't take this for granted, but I overheard that in a storyboard sneak peek that leaked showed her actually heredating Stella's & Andrealphus' Ice powers rather than Stolas' portal & star powers. Tho it could be just a fanmade, the thought is rather interesting
This is proof that the smallest changes can make a huge difference in a design.

Her original design looks agressive while her current design suits her grumpy teenager character type.
I like how she looks more like her mother in the pilot designs while she looks more like her dad in the actual show.

Older is better than the new one. The newest has weird elements like eyeshadow, while the old one is more simple (works better in animation).
The only thing better in the new is her hat and the stars added but the old’s cardigan is more creative design .
I love the first design but the second makes way more sense for her character!!
Imagine if Stolas was an antagonist in the series. Instead of feeling sorry for him and how bad his childhood was. He would’ve used Blitzø and put him on a short leash. And he would handle Stella better than he did before. As for his relationship with Octavia? I don’t know. It could be the same, or maybe she would have a better relationship with Stella. Man, now I wanna sketch out an AU for this idea.
I believe the original plan actually was for him to be an antagonist and use Blitz like a hitman, but somewhere that changed to what it is now. No complaints here though 😅
I actually prefer the old hair tbh. It adds more of a connection to Stella, and the lighter colors highlight the fact that the hair is actually feathers, which is a nice touch.
Its so cool to see how the characters can change so much from the beginning to the when they're in the show

I had no idea Octavia's design in the Pilot is different and the fact she wears a tiara instead of her beanie. Although I love the design Octavia has now and I think her beanie looks really cute especially with a tiara design on it. Also I really want to see more of her in the new episodes.😮😊👑🦉
Judging by how she appears in the second episode of each season, we're most likely going to see her in Apology Tour. 🤔

Lots of fans don’t like Octavio, but I think she is just a really moody teen, who was put into the wrong place at the wrong time, divorced parents dealing with live life IN HELL!!
She is my favorite and I am offended that her screentime is so low. I need more lines to practice sounding like her-
When the show ends I really hope they make a mass produced art book for it, which could be sold at places like Spencer’s or hot topic

She resembled Stella more in her past design, by the looks of her portrait, she also prob had some of her personality too. We don’t have enough screen time nor character development for Octavia to know whether she really took after her mom or not though..
She doesn’t look much different from her original design, I think the new design looks better in my opinion though.

While I like Octavia's new design, I LOVE the old design's use of her feathers being her cardigan.
I really do like Octavia's. I love how she wears the tiara over her beanie, like her Daddy wears his crown on his top hat.

There are things I wish had stayed from the old design, but the overall design is better.
The old design leans more into the royal look while the current one leans into the teenager aspect

I honestly like both designs. The first one feels more like she’s actually a goetia, but the second actually fits her personality and role a lot better.

Pilot Stella looked like she would've been understanding of Stolas's situation considering they were in the same boat together, but Octavia looked more self confident in her pilot design. I love the current one more

The old version reminds me more of Stella, almost like her Mother had more influence over her than Stolas.

Imo they should have kept the more regal look. She looks more like Stolas on her final but her pilot version is a mix of both Stolas and Stella.

I'd like to see Octavia wearing a proper tiara during a formal setting later in the show. Because even tho she is a cute and moody teenager she is also a Ars Goetia princess and would love to explore that part of her.

Unironically, her old design felt much more like Stella and Stolas' daughter, instead of just another owl character.
I could see her growing into the original design. Maybe she dyes her feathers cause the grey looks weird in her eyes or something and the more regal look would fit as she grows into her position.

Since they went less with "snobby Princess" and more with "angstiest teen" the new design definitely fits more. But personally, I like her old one much better. The crown and cardigan feather were such nice touches. I think it would've been peak design for the cardigan feathers idea in the official version of Octavia
Her new design is better overall, but I do like the white in her old feathers. It gives her clearer resemblance to both her parents.

I’d also like to point out that they actually kept her little Tiara by making it a part of her beanie hat. I also never really noticed the stars on her outfit before until now which I honestly think is a cute detail to how much the meteor shower Stolas showed to Octavia really stuck to her in her childhood ☺️
I didn’t quite see Stella’s yet so that very last frame was a jump-scare to me lol I’m going to go check that to see if that’s the real og design- I can’t, it’s such a change! XD
Perhaps the whitish feathers could be shown as part of Octavia’s full demonic form if we see her’s in the show later on.

I actually love the old design, feels like an older version of her. That’s probably why they changed it to have her more teenage-ish, would love to see a sort of return to form after some more growth from her (bring her back Vivzie please)
I like to think maybe Octavia still has the gradient, but dyed her feathers cause well she's in that teen phase and is angsty and edgy n whatnot, so it wouldn't surprise me if she dyed her feathers to better suit the style she's going for.
I had a small head canon that she dyed the ends of her hair dark, so she wouldn't look like her mom

I feel as though the old design hints the idea that Octavia is like her mom very swanky and very upper class preppy maybe. Her current design fits her troubled teen character and as for Stella I prefer her current design yes the original looked good but I can tell it would have been a real drag to animate in the long run
Like someone else said, I wish they kept a few minor details from the old design (mainly her hair) and just carried it over to the current design to show she’s both her parents daughter but I also think the current design is better.
Of Octavia gives the impression she stile took after her dad eg: she has a villain vibe I mean look how snooty she looked in her picture I recon this version of Octavia would have been a royal brat

Early design via had white in her hair from Stella, which was expected I guess but final Via looks better.
She still has Stella's traits like her eyes and her temper, but she's totally Stolas' daughter, and I LOVE that.
She LOOKS like what she is, that Stolas let her be a casual teen (as much a princess could be) rather than forcing her to be a regal, crown and gown wearing princess.
Stella's early design used complementary contrast and was pretty cool but Inam also thankfull for the improvment becsuse it is not so complicated. I prefer the old design more because feathered cardigan is the cool idea and I prefer girls with short hair. Words of future charachter designer.
