15 year old Reuben required our help today. His coat was badly pelted all over. The job was a big one as we had to go extra slow and we had to keep stopping so as Rueben did not become stressed.
They do appreciate you for taking time to help them with their coat. If you make it a habit every day for just a few minutes, then it will save your cat from getting matted.
Our elderly cats can get into a real state because they can no longer reach to groom themselves. This can be stressful for the cats as they do love to keep clean. The matts also stop them from moving freely as they pull on the skin.
i do get upset when I witness elderly cats in this sort of condition, but at least she is with me today and being seen to.

Aww he's just scared. You're so kind to the cat's, soothing them, firm gentle movements. Hope he remembers a good trip to the groomer with you.
Yeah it can be difficult when they've had a bad experience elsewhere. It all comes down to the trust element. Hopefully like you said, he will remember this for the right reasons. Usually 2nd visit is totally different so we will have to wait and see.
If only he could understand how much better he'll feel. Poor ol fella.
This is similar to my cat. He is 19 years old, and knows the sight of the brush and the uncomfort it brings him. I truly want him to know that I Love him and want to be his best cat self.

Thank you for your lovely comment Mia. Yes my patience has developed over many years of grooming. The cats teach you to be calm in any situation otherwise you end up on the end of a very angry pussycat.

Thank you so much! I try my best for all cats whether they are good on the table or a little fesity on the table. There is always a reason why they behave the way they do. My job is to get them to feel safe in my hands and to acknowledge that I am here to help them, not hurt them.

That was a tough job. One of my cats is semi feral and scratches and bites with horrific howls at everything. I give her rescue remedy before clipping claws. But I think she's bipolar because she'll run up to me outside and put her paws up to be picked up and held and brought inside for breakfast and a nap. She didn't want to come in tonight so I put another heat pad in her outside house and. she scratched me in thanks. She hates the other cats and dog and growls if they even look at her! They avoid her even though she's the smallest at seven pounds, and the oldest at 8 years (she did get along with our two elderly cats who passed at 17 years when she adopted us as a kitten). But I thank you for these videos, because we adopted a ragdoll who gets matted constantly. I never had such a. long haired cat before and it is a challenge. Thanks for your ideas and techniques. They help us.

Oh yes! Actually a Tia Maria is more my drink!!!!! and maybe more than one!!! I have come across far worse than Reuben, it is all about patience, patience and even more patience when dealing with a cat like this.
Your kindness, patience and love for cats is amazing. I couldn't believe that you got through that grooming. Most people would have given up. I find it amazing that he didn't attack you! That cat felt your calmness, which made a major difference, in how that grooming turned out. If it wasn't for your calmness, that groom would have never got finished. This is why I brush my cat out every day, and send him to the groomers every 2 months, because I don't want him to ever have to endure such discomfort, and fear, as this cat did. By the way, Rueben is a beautiful cat. Stay blessed, beautiful Lady! Love from across the pond! ❤️

Some of my clients cats have really upset me over the years when I see the state they are in. However, I have to remain grateful that they have decided to call me in even if I should have been there months in advance to prevent that cat being in such discomfort.
There aren't enough cat groomers to go around in the UK.
As for the rest of the world, we need thousands of groomers. Ever thought of a change of career?
wow, you did a good job on this poor cat. You took a big risk in grooming him. I would suggest the owners bring the cat back in a week to finish up the groom. Also, stress to theh owners they must brush their cat daily so he doesn't end up matted as he was when coming to you. You have a very loving and general personality. Thanks for all you do for these furbabies who are so neglected as this one is.

Thank you for your comment and for watching my channel. I hope you pick up plenty of tips on grooming your first longhaired fur baby. Just be sure to groom every single day even if for only a few minutes to give him a once over. It is amazing how quickly matts can develop.
Love watching these, great job 👍🏼 we have a long-haired British Blue whose fur needs a lot of maintenance! To settle the cats further you could even play some calming spa music for cats in the background ☺️🎶

How? And what do you do with exposed skin? Put harmless oil on him? My cat is extremely matted and old and doesn’t groom himself like he used to due to major traumatic changes for him. Im looking for help he’s my late grandmother’s cat I got him a lil over than a year ago and he just got major matted and it’s my fault for putting it off later.
Wonder if that hurts him?

Yes Bryan, it was a mixture of grease from his skin and dandruff. Some good fresh air on him with all that coat removed will certainly help matters.

Hi and thanks for watching my videos. Unfortunately many owners do not brush their cats at all as they believe cats can look after themselves. For others, they do brush them but with the incorrect tools, so they are just not getting to the matts, they just brush over the top of them. And finally, some owners are frightened of their cats or are worried that they are hurting them when they try to tackle the matts.
The only thing I can say is at least he was brought to me and not left to cope on his own.

Hi Carol, and thank you for your comment. Dandruff is usually caused by an underlying health condition. Over bathing can make matters even worse. So, I speak with the fur babies owners and ask them to have their cat checked over by a vet in case there are things going on there that are not obvious.
It can be hormonal, or allergies, or diet, or a number of things going on that we are not aware of.
I am not a vet and therefore recommend to my clients to have a visit to the vets.
I am all about the well being of the animal and removing of what is necessary such as matting and not about making them camera perfect.
I think you need better clippers.Cats aren't going to stay still for very long so you have to work fast.sharoer clippers will get the job done faster.You are way to slow.
