    Partying is an exciting, laid back but dangerous thing if one's guard goes all the way down. Vulnerability is better with people you love/trust.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this video. The truth about going away to college is that it gives you the chance to experience alcohol, sex and drugs without people you know watching (parents, high school peers, your small town grapevine). The best way to stay safe is just what you say, be with a group of friends that has at least one person with decent brain function or at least good instincts.
    Sixty years ago I joined a big national fraternity (yes, we say the whole word) at a school known locally (at least at UCLA) as the University of Spoiled Children. Alcohol flowed liberally. The differences? I can't remember ANY spiking of girls drinks or rape. We all thought of girls as pretty amazing creatures, despite seduction being our primary interest. Same instincts, different social compact. Guy culture has gone downhill.
    What terrifies me most is binge drinking. It has destroyed lives and the fraternity system. Girls who should be smarter follow the guys and do it too. Your advice is spot-on. Two drinks and see how that's working. Then slowly feed a happy drunk state as many hours as you can. I think forced binge drinking is a sign of greater danger. It shows stupidity, impulsiveness, and bad social ethics. Guys who do it are not safe for girls to be around.
    About the other stuff. I won't be censorious. Still, I saw drugs ruin the innocent joy of the hippie movement. There are plenty of ways to get a high out of life without chemicals: good people, music, sex, art, meditation, rainbows. Second, the 1960s were a wonderful time of freedom from social shaming over sex. Today you live with the combination of a Puritan backlash and (please believe me) worse male behavior. I think the new era of "Yes means Yes" is a blessing. It frees women to speak up. Guys need to back off about it. And yes, the campus health service (along with frank discussion and social honesty) is your friend.
    Happy Easter or Passover or just Sunday! Each day is a chance for rebirth and new discoveries if we give it a chance.

    I heard it’s harder for guys to get into parties. Can u give any tips on making it easier for guys to get into parties?

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah! I talk more about it in my other party advice video, but you basically want to go with a group of girls, with a good ratio of guys to girls (at least half girls, if not more). Certain parties like 3rd and cedar don’t really check who’s coming in, but frats/house parties do

      Just bring alcohol/drugs/10$ - 20$ depending on the size of ur group I used to come party at Chico state when I was in high school and we never had a ton of issues that’s if you don’t have enough girls with u of course

    I love this girl. This is your prototypical Chico State student who survives their first year. Hedonistic until consequences inhibit well-being or progress. She’s grounded, she’s attractive and very intelligent. After school at Chico, UOregon, Berkeley, Aalborg (Denmark) combined with years of emphasis on journalism and sociology can I say this spot on this chick is again (I think chick would have been used in 2006 so I’m going for authenticity).
    I know very well how difficult it is to discuss any topic with dialogue that flows thus well and does not piss me off for being ignorant or uninformed. Trust your neighbor in theory (you might have an actual creepy neighbor). If you’re absolutely lost and hammered somehow, knock on a door. The community will empathize and get you home safe. Same goes for Freshmen men or anyone if it’s really that bad.
    Chico women are disproportionately beautiful and the men are also handsome and fit. Crazy how the kids who were deemed attractive/charismatic have partied in high school, played 4 sports, were involved in leadership or whatever wound up with a 3.6 and not a 4.3.
    18-23 whatever...the community feeling of Chico is not a contest for social standing or academic supremacy. I could tap into my Berkeley speak to try and explain the social dynamics that compose the model propelling amazing men and women to this sparsely populated town in the North State. Just know if you’re a smart friendly kid you’ll fucking love your time in Chico and be likely be surprised without being overwhelmed or without support academically.
    Your insight, editing, ability to observe and analyze social trends is an asset to the Uni and flat out impressive.
    My sympathy to any current students that are suddenly not able to enjoy 90% of what makes Chico so amazing. Damn the thought of erasing those three years sounds traumatic. That’s where me became me and stayed me.
    Make friends with this chick up top. She’s going places....anywhere she wants really. It’s very clear.
    DUCKS V USC TONIGHT. Let’s scooooo Ducks! Move on so Gonzaga can send you men Back to Eugene in the Elite 8. I did love Oregon too; amazing on a larger scale, impossible to compare. Both are amazing.
    Save shit like this for future portfolios killer. Be well

    ??? This is not just about the "truth" of Chico State parties.. this is just good advice for any young person.. Why tie Chico State to this??? This is not a Chico State issue this is just college in general. Why bash Chico? Just curious.

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  2 роки тому +1

      i went there for 5 years so obviously i could only comment on my/my peers experience at the school i attended. it’s not a bashing at all, people had questions about the parties so i gave honest answers and advice. i don’t see the issue.

      I understand but I just feel this type of behavior happens at every campus, not just Chico. Not a big deal obviously but it does hint that Chico has a dangerous campus. Anyways thanks for sharing glad you stayed safe. The reason I watched the video is because I spent the first 20 years of my life in Chico! Off to Santa Barbara after that.
