Even if he had given me 2 hours, I am not sure if I would have solved this question correctly. There are a few puzzles/questions which can be solved during an interview, within the given timeframe, only if one has come across those in the past. Somehow, in videos like this one, there is always a happy ending, and this harrows me a lot. Apna time kab ayega bey.

@@siddharthgulati9978 chess can be directly compared with ones life or any country s situation or any given situation and we can learn from it. not with fifa. chess trains our brains to be sharper. while fifa a doesnot
@@adityanemmani3759 Yeah what you said is correct, but if we utilize all the resources that Fifa has we do learn pretty good things. We can learn basic management by playing career mode, we can sharpen our memory power by devising approaches to remember the skill combinations, we can improve split second decision making etc etc. I think any game can teach us skills that are important.

Its an 8 queen problem he is asking for, its a problem where we have to find maximum number of queens that can be placed such that no queens can kill the other, kind of stale mate
Then I guess the question was so poorly asked I guess cause I couldn't understand what he wanted with the queen's position.
I have solved the same problem with different answer but in less time...... I think many similar Symmetric arrangements are there

I should have done backtracking from the beginning...it's not that difficult if you are a cs student and is familiar with backtracking

Can someone please explain why was he talking about the puzzle with some random person even though the interviewer clearly told him to not ask for any help.
Well he was merely telling the problem to his inquisitive friend and not taking help from him
@@rubuzzing But, when the interviewer suddenly came out, didn't he think he was cheating?
If the interviewer would have thought so he would have been disqualified then & there. But you do have a point a casual banter can also be risky as it can be misconstrued as taking help.

@@akkir3268 I mentioned chess, travelling and reading about technology as hobby in every interview. I was asked about big data and AI in TCS, about my latest trip in wipro. I told about my goa trip with friends in final year. I got selected in tcs,wipro,ibm. Right now it's been 1.5 years in IBM.

This is called the Queens problem
It's a classical topic of algorithm design
No N queens is used to place N queens on board so that they don't attach each other. This is different
This is very similar to that problem.....if u think of the maximum value of n for the typical n Queens problem
It is not Queens problem rather the opposite of it coz we have to place 'minimum' number of queens which can cover 8x8 chess board and not 8 Queens

Hey Padma, He was asked to asked to place minimum number of queens on the chessboard so that the queens can reach every block of the chess board. If you look at the final answer, the queens are able to reach every block from there.... Hope this answer helps :)

What was the role of the Girl?
It was a distraction to reset the mindset. In examz, interviews and other mentally challenging situations/phases of life,when you are tense it is good to stop all the thinking, take a pause to change perspective.

Question is:
What is the minimum number of Queens with which you can cover every square of chess board? Also show their arrangement.
A rook can cover vertical and horizontal squares of chess boards, Queen can also cover diagonals in addition to this. The question was to place minimum number of queens in such a way that all squares of chess board are covered with its attack range

@@vidhanmaheshwari2082 Vidhan Maheshwari place queen on that block which will give maximum disqualification of other blocks. so place first queen somewhere in the middle, mark not allowed blocks, and then place another which will give maximum disqualication, u will have total 5 queen.

we can also place 8 queens in the 8*8 chess board
i've do this many times...
this is called n-queens problem..
the answer is n=8.
This is not N Queens problem here we have to place minimum number of queens in 8x8 chessboard and not 8, even 5 Queens can cover the whole chess board similar to n =8 queens
