I didn’t realize until you pointed it out that the others only destroyed small insignificant art and when it required them to *actually* disrupt things they backed off. Too good
The thing about the glass smashing scene that really got to me was that none of the smashes triggered the Mona Lisa's glass defenses, but they would comedically flip up with every phone notification. Bron's weakness was never the destruction of his wealth, but threats against his reputation. That's why he killed Dave Bautista (can't remember the character's name now), because the email notification/napkin was the one tangible threat to his reputation, and those notifications were the one thing to throw up his defenses. Anyway love you very much, this is good shit, excited for more
yoooo great point! I didn't even think of that! Thanks dude
oh my god this is amazing! i get so annoyed by that every time i watch it but it's actually genius thank you!
Are you sure that the glass didn't shut as soon as he burned the napkin, and it stayed closed because no one had pressed the override button until Helen presses it to burn the Mona Lisa?
@@andrewdunn8778 yes, it was flipping up and then going back down when the phones were pinging before that
@@lyricbot8513 But that's the early in the movie, when Miles presses the override button to demonstrate how it works. The override button makes it repeatedly go back down, but doesn't stop it from snapping back shut. I'm saying that, after the napkin was torched, the override button had not been pressed until Helen presses it right at the end, so it would have stayed closed.
The fact that the others only agreed to align their stories at the end because they had no more to gain from Miles is just so realistic. As a social comment, it's an obvious punch in the stomach, really. What a video, keep up the good work! 👍
They were also lieing. Yes he did those things, but they are lieing about witnessing them.
@@thetoadberg and there is a distinction, explicit in the themes of the movie, between lying for a lie and lying for the truth
The worst part about Glass Onion is in the Among Us scene they have the dead body reported noise play for no reason and then someone calls an emergency meeting. They could’ve just had someone report abody if they wanted the sound!
OMG I didn't catch that! Good observation!
If you were being ironic/sarcastic or something my bad but for those that recognize that, it's foreshadowing. You know... She gets shot, and so they all go inside. But she wasn't dead. So no actual body was reported, a meeting was called. Nice catch, I didn't see it myself
I'm late, but if it wasn't foreshadowing, that might've been because some of the people "playing" weren't actually playing sine they didn't know how. Even tho they could've just recorded someone else playing
4:00 another note is that Miles put in the feature to allow the painting to be destroyed and showed everyone. He set himself up for failure; Helen made sure the failure only ruined his material possessions and reputation rather than kill someone.
well other than the people he already killed
also when the witnesses do "tell the truth" they are still lying, but now in support of what actually happened rather than Miles' perspective. Liars and cheats gonna lie and cheat, but I guess the lesson is make them have an incentive for the truth??
Actually she didnt assure znyones safety and thats the one thing that bothered me. She had two people unaccounted for on the island and is smart enough to understand she really has no idea how big this explosion will be and know on some level it could take them all out. She's trusting a detective (who really hasnt done anything to earn this level of trust) to have hot encouraged her if he felt it was too dangerous. But he isnt a scientist. He doesnt know what all is in the mansion. That explosion could have taken out the whole island. The shrapnel could have killed them all.
@@krose6451 you're right, I doubt she really cared about any of their safety after everything that happened.
coming here from mamma mia hwga video essay to be jumped with "we need to raise class consciousness" was exhilerating
enormous vibe shift to be certain hahahaha. glad you enjoyed the leftist part
same and I love that for us xD
The concept of them being "disruptors" and then Rhian showing them up for what they really are makes this film awesome and meta
Knives Out and Glass Onion are two of my favourite films, I can’t believe I only just found this video! Your video is incredible!!!
Awesome and succinct analysis. Also worth noting that the ending does 2 things: It reveals them to have been fully corrupted by their gained class positions and unwilling to compromise themselves in a true way, and it shows us, though Helen, that they can only be made to turn traitor to their position when all other collaborative options are removed from them. Very powerful stuff when you remember that none of the Disruptors came from wealth: They betrayed their class roots (represented in the grounding force of Andi), and were then forced to abandon their new position (by Helen)
this is iconic. part 2 is like. third eye opening. it put a lot of loose tumbling thoughts into a coherent thread
like. the line has moved to just in front of his toes again. so true!!! like every week was another "breaking news" like !!!!!!!!!!!! why are we not taking any action against this. and it's like the status quo and the overton you mentioned and all of that etc. etc. etc.
YESSSSS you get it!! thanks for watching, glad it landed for you!
You've only got three videos but you're already my favourite UA-cam channel, damn.
I'm a big fan of trying to teach people about why capitalism sucks whilst avoiding the words "capitalism" and "communism" because people have been trained to completely ignore anything said after the word communism.
Good job 👍
I watched your Mamma Mia 2 video before this one and I must say that this channel is maybe the best thing I've found in a long time. Thanks for your great videos!
And also Miles Bron literally described that final scene at the beginning of the movie when he explained who the disruptor is.
A better editor than me could probably match Bron's 'disruptor' speech to the art smashing scene beat for beat and have it match perfectly.
I literally am so glad I subbed to you over the sheer fact that you said something so important and didn't just analyze a cool scene leaving it at that.
THIS IS SO RELEVANT IN CONTEXT OF THE RECENT OCEANGATE SUBMERSIBLE INCIDENT
Innit, dumb billionaires are gonna dumb billionaire
Loved this movie, loved this video! I’m watching this, after watching your Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again video, and genuinely shocked as to why you don’t have more subscribers
Loved the movie and really enjoyed your thoughts in applying it to real life! Excited to see more of what you make👍
thanks Travis! I enjoyed your Evangelion video too, glad to see you making cool stuff too!
Please make more Videos!!! Love your depiction on the scenes and movies!!! It’s so entertaining yet makes me think! Love it!
This is so great! Looking forward to your next one.
thanks Corinna! Appreciate that!
Very awesome. I want more of this. I really liked the movie, and I liked hearing your thoughts that the movie provoked.
Thanks man! I will give you more of this!
I kept thinking during the mama mia video that you look like a young more wholesome Edward Norton and that's why I clicked on this one 😆
What a great chanel with only a few videos lol I felt like I was having a 2am conversation with a new person at the end of a party. These are great. They really draw you in.
hahaha I didn't make the connection between the Edward Norton likeness and this thumbnail! I'm glad you've enjoyed the vids, I love the idea of a 2am convo at a party energy!
Also, this is how I sit in any chair. Relatable. 😆
Ive seen the movie twice and i kept not understanding the ending but i think i finally do
Yeah, same.
Same here, I’m normally good with movies but I suck at understanding mysteries like this
Very well said. I also struggle to articulate how very happy I was when they burned that damn painting
The only thing I’d add to align your conclusion with reality is to note that the real life Miles Brauns already control the authorities you would ‘accurately report’ to… Bleak, but necessary to acknowledge
I just came across your mamma mia video and thought damn, that is a hilarious and super insightful essay, how have I never come across this channel? This is incredible stuff!!
I was going to binge your most recent videos, try to see if I've already seen some of your old videos, turns out you've only posted 3??????
I could've sworn I'd seen some older videos of yours like 2 o 3 years ago, feels like a channel that's figured out what it's doing. Well 🤷🏼♂️
The every-frame-a-painting lookalike formula is getting a bit stale at this point, this is some cool fresh stuff!!
Keep it up man, this is great
Love the vibe of this video, great work!
Thanks so much!!
amazing video, amazing analysis, and amazing commentary. you have gained a new subscriber and my respect. great job!
Magnificent video all the way around!!
I really liked the movie but was dissapointed by the ending. They acted so smart, and then just showed him the napkin. I was so frustrtated.
I think it was just the exitation of finding THE evidence to put him down
Holy shit, this is SO good! Subscribed!
might be a lil late to the party but i finally saw glass onion
you're never too late to party
@@mediaprocessingchannel ur vid slaps
I liked Glass Onion before I watched this video. I love it now.
i love this i'll have to watch glass onion again
Point well put. And quite cleanly. Subd. Looking forward to more
Great video, how do you not have more subscribers?
really really like you and the way you speak
;D Alright, Big Joel.
haha I wear my influences on my sleeve
@@mediaprocessingchannelyour SWEATER SLEEVE
Helen destroys Miles’s lies and the lies the “disruptors” concoct to save themselves by constructing a new truth through disruption, which in turn coerces the others to speak truth to power, to actually disrupt the status quo, by *lying*.
the themes of lies and truth in this movie series? chef’s kiss.
Can I ask what microphone you use? I like the sound! And your video ofc (but haven’t finished yet lol❤)
Incredibly wealthy people should be viewed with suspicion - what are they doing with this wealth, for the good of their community and mankind?
I went back to rewatch the movie and i remembered your commentary on the scene and it made it so much not infinitely enjoyable to watch
How is this your first video?? 🤯
Good book rec. Thanks man.
you're super welcome! It's a bit of a bummer read sometimes but it is an absolute treat - not to oversell, but it was really pivotal for me. I hope you enjoy it, it's a really good collection of essays!
we can also break the thing nobody want you to break :)
ur so based u need way more subs
Dope dope dope video
thanks king 👑
the teleprompter comment took me out love
Came from a baffling recommendation on the home page and staying for the excellent answer to "What if Big Joel was a film analyst?" Subbed.
He's so cute
Looking at the current state of Twitter (and to a lesser extent Trump dragged before the courts, with a few cases still waiting), it does seems the movie is right and some screwups are too big to spin or explain away.
i hope so!!!!!!!!!!

i don't like that your hat keeps hitting that plant
Movie: 2/10
Video Essay: 10/10
lmao thanks Kevin, way to embrace multiple realities simultaneously
This is why my Trumpian friends didn’t like the movie…
