      I'm a software developer by day, but only took a single digital design course in college. I feel you. I have a basic understanding of how these gates work, and could probably bash my head against the wall long enough to make some cool stuff, but it would be a spaghetti mess, at best.
      It does have me super curious though... I work with some FPGA engineers, and they basically do this all day for a living, but on MUCH more complex problems. I bet they'd kick butt at this game

      I'm thinking I don't even know what the wires update is for, except for turning off parts of the quad painter, which could have been done with switches on the quad painter itself. I don't know how any of the rest of the wires update content translates into shape making, and this video "tutorial" (as it's called in the game) does a really bad job of explaining what the virtual processing content does. Watching a player constantly twitching the screen around, making mistakes while demonstrating, and saying "really simple" and "really important" a lot doesn't constitute a tutorial.

    When I saw the game tell me I was going to unlock logic gates I about lost it. But then I was like "But.. what do I do with them?" Now this makes so much more sense, and this added a whole new dimension to this game. I already had a blast, but now I have a whole new project to make.

    It would've been a tutorial if you showed some practical uses of how you would link it to actual machines, even if you made something really simple.

      Belt Readers and Filters are the machines you probably want. You can connect the wires to belt readers to compare what's on the belt with the part of the shape you need at the hub, and then use filters to either use that shape for combining or not. It's a lot easier said than done though.

    I would love to see a color of wire per color of paint, that way we can color code wires better. Also a rainbow wire which basically connects/transmits all colors of wires, for compact busses!

    Woah... These are some very intricate tools! Thanks for explaining all the virtual proccessing stuff, Dogdayboy, and thank you for making this game, Tobias! :)
    Also I'm glad I didn't spend *too* long trying to figure out the last shape before Free Play while wanting to upgrade my factory speed stuffs since I was going to make it now anyway, *almost* looked up some tips on how to do it but I'm feeling up for figuring stuff out on my own again (just like with Level 20's shape, that one was wild)!

    Im gonna be completely honest. i dont fully understand the wires and all the wire components but it just seems like 1000 times easier to just not use them and create any shape you want using just the belts, since to me the wires just seems like a fancy way to just turn components on or off, which is much easier on the belts layer, just delete 1 belt or place 1 belt

      If you're making the shapes manually then yes, but this could be powerful for automation.

      Yes, it's easier to make individual shapes manually, but the wires literally add the same logic gates we have in electronic circuits and computers. It makes for immensely more powerful and versatile machines. With a switch you can turn your factory into something else entirely. Also automation: you can't build an everything machine without wires.

    Since every shape imaginable is possible to build using classic tools (I think), i would never use wires equipment anyway (except for quad painter ofc)

    could we get some new tutorials for the wirelevel, these are no help at all and they are linked in game as explanation. i reached free play, and never used any wire mechanics, because there are no helpful explanations in game and the linked videos don't help either.

      Just figuring this out myself, and trying to avoid as much prewritten knowledge as I can as part of the fun of this for me is actually figuring out how this works in practice, but far as I understand it, a LOT of this works by simply using the Filter. Since the Filter only sends shapes forward when it receives a 1/On state, or matching shape/color signal, you can compare the shape you need to build with any pre-constructed factories to send pieces down the line and into an assembly station. In _theory,_ you could build a system that generates all 128 color/shape/rotation combinations of pieces at full belt speed (512 lines needed if you want to produce a full 4-layered shape at full belt speed) Though in practice, it's easier to just compare the shape pieces you need (4 shapes x 4 quads x 4 layers = 32 lines for optimal building speed) and then compare the colors you need for each quadrant with the colors you want (7 colors x 4 quads x 4 layers = 112 lines for optimal painting speed) and send those down a line into quad painters.
      So say, for instance, that the NE quad on the bottom layer of the randomly generated shape is a Cyan Rectangle. You then use the Shape Analyzer to split that into a "Rectangle" and "Red" signal, and send those to the Shape and Color Factories, respectively, and have the belts corresponding to the NE bottom layer send NE circles and Red paint. This can be done in many ways, but the simplest is to feed the signal directly into a filter which lets the shape & paint through if they signal matches. (in theory you could also send the paint signal into the quad painter, though in practice I see no reason why you can't just have all quad painter inputs on at all times)
      I do think these tutorials need to give more practical examples, but I think part of the reason they don't is because solving the "Build Anything Machine" kinda _is_ the final puzzle of the base game. Still, hope this at least somewhat illuminates how you can get wire signals to interact with an automated factory in theory, at least.

    Ok I get the normal layer, I see how the wire layer works, but I have no clue how the interact. I’ve watched this and tried it on the game. I’m at level 34 or 35 also all 4 of my upgrades are on level 30, however expect for the quad painter I have no clue.
    If I have 2 shapes on a belt can I split them to go to different cutters or painters? Or when there on a belt they are on a belt!.?!?!

      I'm starting to get it. Lets say you have a grey square (RuRuRuRu) and a grey circle (CuCuCuCu) on 1 belt. You run the belt to the bottom of a filter. In the Wires layer, use the Constant Signal gadget to generate a constant "ON" signal for the square, which will then be filtered to the top output, leaving the circle to exit the side. The filter needs a signal to know which piece its looking for.

      i dont think theyre actual machines, theyre meant to analyze the shapes by deconstructing each layer

    Ya back when I got to that shape it was not at level 26 and I got NONE of those fancy things while making the ship shape ...and after hours of pain, and building 24 different stacking systems that would stacked the layers in a every possible order in an attempt to make that ship all failing .. i went online to see if there was a fix or work around for this buggy falling layers stacker issue. After finding out is was not labeled a bug I stopped playing. Decided to check it out again I am on working on level 25 ... and have over 1 million of those ship shapes since I had to make them way earlier in the save I have ... will be interesting if the game breaks. (it didn't break of course, and those virtual tools still would not have helped me realize the cutter did not have the same fall layer falling issue as the stacker has)
    Playing the game at 5120x1440 and can hardly tell I average like 20 fps .. I do know when it saves though ... just got done deleting unneeded stuff and still 20 fps but saves are faster lol
