I'm really behind on reading a Jhumpa Lahiri book I think! So excited for the next Shafak!

I’d never even heard of the John Boyne quartet, not sure if it’s for me but it does sound interesting. Got to have some read by whim reading in there but I’m looking forward to your plans for WIT in August Charlotte!

Maybe you’re not being recommended via the algorithm lately, as I have not seen a CHAROLETTE video in ages , but 🎉 for this one! 📖 🪱 💚

Yes the algorithm thing wouldn't surprise me because view counts are down... Who knows why! 😭
Lovely to see you back in the comments section though! 💚

I do enjoy this tag, thanks for sharing!
Still need to read Small Pleasures, as I want to know what all the fuss is about with the ending.
And while I have seen raves for the Boyne series, I struggle to be enthusiastic about picking his work up because of the ‘LGB-without-the-T’ thing he has going on.

      Thanks Ben! 🥰
Having never heard this about John Boyne before I went ahead and googled it, all I can find on this is an interview of him by the Independent where, I quote: "As a gay man, I stand 100 per cent behind all trans people. I respect them as brave pioneers, I applaud their determination to live authentic lives despite the abuse they also receive, and I will always do so.”
I don't know where you got your information from, I can't find anything from a quick Google search, but I'm happy to be proven wrong!! 😁

@@charlottemolloy he’s been crowing support for Rowling and for the Cass Report on Twitter quite a lot. It’s a shame.
(No impact on my views of anyone else’s reading btw, it just makes me not particularly hyped about reading his stuff myself. There are too many other books out there for me to spend my time feeling conflicted!)

judging by your description no one subject to depressive episodes should risk even dipping into the john boyne series. But I really liked nathan hill's earlier book the nix and after your review am very interested in the new one.⚛😀❤

loved Wellness! I brought it with me to Chicago trip, not knowing it took place in Chicago -- I started it there and finished it on the plane back.
didn't get on with Kunzru's "Red Pill" at all (in fact I quite hated it haha) but you're making me curious to check out "Blue Ruin". and now i'm just noticing that all of his last three book titles so far are red, white, and blue plus a noun lol.

I love the synchronicity of your Wellness experience. I DNFed Red Pill when I tried it recently. I think that might reflect well on you enjoying Blue Ruin like me. I have yet to try the next one "White (?)" but hopefully it'll be another great one.

Big fan of Kunzru. White Tears is one of my favorite novels. Blue Ruin was right up my alley too. The only 2024 releases I've enjoyed more are Percival Everett's James, Kevin Barry's The Heart in Winter, and Carys Davies' Clear. About to finish Liz Moore's The God of the Woods, a perfect summer read for suspense/drama or mystery/thriller fans. Looking forward to The Empusium.

White tears is the next one I have to get to by Kunzru. I also throughly enjoyed Clear this year, it just didn't quite fit into any of the questions on this tag today.
