  • Another beautiful day shore casting on the north west shore of Oahu. Luckily one of the locals, "Steve" was catching fish on bait. It was very interesting learning about some new tackle and techniques. I hope you learn something new too, mahalo!

Thanks for the video . I was able to guess exactly where you’re fishing ,, just by the view . I’m a mainlander ,but my mom married a Nanakuli Hawaiian. Brought back some good memories of hanging local style . Wish I was camping with the family out Marconi road way eating the good grinds and betting on the red raiders .Mahalo just for the sound of the waves !

I be shore fishing this year for sure brining my gear this year…damn I thought about brining a travel rod but now I might have to bring out my 10-2 rod

@@pnw_element9822 I use a rod carrier. My Okuma 13’ breaks in 3 pieces, so it fits in a relatively short case. Or just use your travel rod and lighter weights for bait. Good luck out there and thanks for watching!

Wow cool Unko sharing knowledge. Btw, I have thinking getting tabis to wear while shore fishing (recently got nasty cut from sharp coral), what kind of tabis are u wearing? (felt or rubber sole? which one you recommend?)

Thanks for watching! I use a Cressi Bootie 5 mm, but it's too hot and you need to dry them because they'll start smelling. They are very tough and I walk over rocks without any troubles. They also have a zipper so it's more comfortable, but you have to watch the sand jamming there. You might want the 3 mm for the tropics, they'll give you less protection from sharp lava rocks, but they'll be cooler. I hope that helped Brother! Good Luck and Mahalo!

Are you throwing a ranger jig with a fly tied behind it?

What kind of bait/lures for Oahu? I am visiting next week and i plan to bring my surf rod. Just don't know enough about what to use

The locals who use bait and bells have more action. They also fish for hours on the incoming tides. I fished using a modified bubble and fly (black and purple). I only caught one fish after several days of fishing. I tried poppers, Luckycraft, metals, large plastics, and stick baits with little success. It’s tough fishing. I hope that helps. Good luck out there!

the words frfom the elders that kids take for granted. .. until they forget and try to learn it themselves... youre lucky he spoke to you as much as he did. if you got a camera... id ask not to be filmed or just shut up.no one wants to be that guy that caused the beach to get raped ffrom over fishing.

Uncle Steve is a nice guy! Luckily he had a double hook up when I was there. Otherwise, I would have left him alone. They locals were very friendly and allowed me to film. They were sharing their techniques and photos. I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from them and I hope you do too!
Hawaii is a tough place to fish. I caught one small fish for my entire stay. In Mexico, I would catch at least a good sized fish a day. It seems like Hawaii is already fished out. Thanks for watching!
