Thanks Paul. I loved the quiet of Bathurst Park.🌳🌲🌳🌲🌹🌸🌹🌸 ☀️Well done for finding the station and great videos of the old train. Loved the sounds as the train stops and the steam.. pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Then as goes it leaves.. Cha cha cha cha cha cha ......... 😊🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Lovely comment - thanks Cathy! Yes, the sounds are so evocative aren't they? I try and capture them as best that I can. Thanks again, take care, Paul 🙂👍
Hidden? More like camouflaged. 😳 What a spectacular find Paul. 💕 The lack of signage is puzzling, but it was fascinating to watch and listen to your discovery. It was brill watching the level crossing gates open and close. Thank you for filming it from different angles and viewpoints. As always your videography is top shelf. Phenomenal content, highly recommended. 👍 God bless you Paul🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you Don! Yes, I think it is to do with wrangles with the DFR (the railway) and the local town council. Also, some in the DFR don't think that Lydney as a town centre is worth promoting. I think that is wrong, because although it may not have the greatest range of shops, or exterior beauty, it has a truly beautiful park (as you partially saw in the video) and a magnificient lake adjacent, and a lovely church. It still doesn't fully explain the lack of footpath/ on foot signs pointing to where the station is, however. Thank you so much Don for your very kind comments. Videos like this don't take too long to film out in the field (as it where) - it is all about the planning in advance. I hope to travel on the DFR next time, and show you one of their other stations. It is a fascinating heritage line, with much history too. Take care, Paul.
Hello! This is one of the best videos I have seen today! keep uploading such great videos. I look forward to more of your videos my friend. Have a wonderful day. 🙂
Thank you David! Yes, there is much in this area, particularly to do with coal mining and iron smelting. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul 🙂👍
Thank you Louise! Yes, certainly well hidden! It is like they don't want anyone to use it; strange! Glad you found it relaxing after a hard working day and glad you liked the steam train footage. This short bite was an easy edit, unlike my monthly vlog, which I am trying to put together now! I look forward to yours tomorrow ☺️ Cheers, Paul 👍🙂
Hello Paul - greetings from Poland That was wonderful Paul. Lydney Town Station - what a little gem. Hidden away as it is, I'm amazed people know of its existance. Fabullous watching the crossing gates in operation with a steam loco and its carriages passing over it . A brilliant video, superb camera work and excellent information about what we were looking at. Thanks so much. Stay safe please.
Thank you Michael! Glad you liked it. You're too kind! I think visitors only know of it if they alight here from a train heading towards Lydney Jct. A visitor to Lydney would be unaware. I am a resident of Gloucestershire, and I wasn't aware of it (until I made the first DFR video), yet it was only (re)opened in 2001. So much potential! I doubt if many vistors of the DFR are aware of it either, nor that fabulous manned high st. level crossing, possibly unique on a heritage line. There are other level crossings on the DFR, but none that cross a town's high street. Thanks again, and thank you for supporting my channel. Take care, Paul.
Hi Paul that was great to see one of the finest steam heritage lines in the country though it was quite hidden 🤭 It was so good to see and as usual you did a great tour :) ~ Anna
Thank you Anna - and it is not far from Wales too. Chepstow is less than 9 miles from Lydney. Thanks so much for your kind comments and for watching. Take care, Paul.
Hi Ron, thank you! Sorry about that! Scary how quickly time passed! Only seems like yesterday I was getting on the school coach to Parkend - wish I had a camera then and had taken some photos of it. Would be fascinating to compare to now! Take care, Paul 🙂👍
Hi Roy! Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, a good weekend. Having a quiet one after my trip to Devon yesterday. I look forward to your video from Wales. Have a great time ☺️. Cheers, take care, Paul 👍
Thank you Ted! It is odd why it is so hidden! It is like they are trying to discourage passengers from using it, even though it only (re)opened in 2002. Take care, Paul 👍🙂
As a resident of the Forest, I knew that Lydney had a station when it was rund by GWR (?) but I did not know it still existed until Paul mentioned it. As I watch local politics I can see why Lydney Town Council do not promote Dean Forest Railway. It's because they either do not care or do not have a clue. Thank God that charities, such as Dean Forest Railway and people like the Bathursts do care.
Thank you John! Yes, I just can't help thinking that the council are missing a tourist promotion (and much needed income for local businesses) trick here. Sad to see that the local Co-Op (and Peacocks & Bon Marche) has now closed. Lots of plaques showing where the Co-Op has invested in Lydney over the past 20 years on community projects. So much potential! Thanks again, take care, Paul 🙂👍
That was a tiny little railway station Paul, I’m surprised it’s still there. So many little stations have been shut down over the years. Great old train buddy 😊 great little video too
Thank you Stephen and Yhana! Yes, it is a real oddity - it closed in 1960, when the original Severn Bridge was hit and fatally wounded by barges, so the line was closed to passengers. It was rebuilt and reopened in 2001, but seems to be little publicised. You couldn't hide a station anymore if you tried! Cheers, take care both, Paul.

Thank you for a lovely comment. Cheers, Paul 🙂👍
Another enjoyable watch Paul. It’s great that old lines and trains can still function and give us an insight into the past. David 👍
Thank you David! Yes, there is much in this area, particularly to do with coal mining and iron smelting. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul 🙂👍
Wow! Fascinating about it being hidden/not promoted. Lovely video and steam train footage. Nice and relaxing to watch after a busy day at work. 😊

Thank you Ron! Glad you enjoyed it 👍🙂Paul
That station was truly hidden. Delightful video thank you.
Thank you Faith! It certainly is! Bit of a puzzle as to why. Take care, Paul 🙂👍
Oh aye, that were grand. Well hidden indeed!
Thank you Tamson! Yes, it certainly is, but why is a bit (local) political I fear. Thanks for watching and you support. Take care, Paul.

Hi Paul, you have made me feel very old. I took my children to Parkend for the brake van rides!! Ron

Goods news, the DFR are returning to stopping all passenger trains in both directions at Lydney Town and Whitecroft in 2023!
That's great to hear - thank you!
