I keep thinking about Dumbledore saying to Snape "I sometimes think we sort too soon" and how distraught Snape looked at that. I think, given everything we know, he might have been sorted into Gryffindor. Yes he had cunning, ambition, drive--esp as a young boy desperate to prove himself as a wizard, as a man, as just being worthwhile. That was an overwhelming thing for him at 11 going to Hogwarts. Beyond that, the Gryffindor traits of bravery, courage, and loyalty exemplify what Snape is about as a person. Underneath all his bitterness and anger and wretchedness, that is who he is. Given that path he would not have become a death eater. So I think if he were to see himself and Lily sorted into the same house, it WOULD matter which one--i think it would matter a great deal. And I think it would be Gryffindor. (Great video btw)
i think hed make more sense as hufflepuff considering he was loyal to lily and only her for almost his entire life, you know barring selling her family out to me lol. Snape is a very complicated man and I dont think he really fits into one house very well, but i would say hufflepuff would be most suiting if he didnt betray his friend. He is also very cunning/ambitious considering the crowd he was in with and their goals and he was able to get me to give her the option to be spared, so I think slytherin does make sense, but the hat isnt prophetical, it doesnt know he is going to betray her or have these ambitions in later years, so to me it seems like he should have been sorted hufflepuff, as he was deeply in love with her at that time and that was probably his main concern and value, being her friend. But perhaps the hat could sense some innate entitlement in him to her or something, and thats where it decided slytherin... or it knew someone as greasy as him holding out for lily was the most ambitious goal it had come across yet LOL.
Snape is one of those rare characters where a case could be made for each of the four houses. He obviously fit Slytherin and loved his house, and he had the bravery of Gryffindor, the intelligence and inventiveness of Ravenclaw, and the hard work and loyalty of Hufflepuff.

Well first you said at the beginning of the video “Snapes infatuation with Lilly”. It was no infatuation, he was in love with her from the start. I believe he would have seen himself similar to Lucius Malfoy...wealthy, faithful death eater, with Lilly at his side and Harry as his son. He didn’t like Harry because he was a reminder of James. In the case of the mirror, Harry would be his son.
While I'm sure he would have loved James to die or leave in some fashion to take his place after the fact, I'm sure he would rather him not have had her in the first place

He needed Harry to sacrifice himself for the good of all and because it meant that the unknown horcrux would be destroyed . But one could also argue that Harry couldn’t have died because of the blood Voldemort took, and Dumbledore knew that, but didn’t tell Snape, because of Voldemort maybe getting the info out of Snape and Harry needing to feel that he was going to die and sacrifice himself. But there are of course double standards in this story .
He didn't, he only needed Harry to think that he was going to die because Harry had to sacrifice himself in order to defeat Voldemort. Dumbledore knew (or at least was almost convinced) that Harry didnt die for real. But Harry had to think he was truly sacrificing himself.
IngeC That’s why in the Last Battle for Hogwarts no one dies! As he had sacrificed himself for all the people in the castle, like his mother did for him, they are almost not affected by Death Eater spells, which leaves only Harry as a potential death. But come on, he is Harry Potter! He escaped the Dark Lord almost 10 times, robbed gringots, camped fleeing from a hundred death eaters and a lot of other people trying to catch him for the prize, why would he die from a 1/7 of Voldemort’s soul.
What's painful for me is that what Snape would see in the mirror is what I'd see for the one I love. Even though I'll never see her again, the answer to my devotion to her will forever be, "Always."
A future with Lily in the Mirror of Erised goes without saying as to what Snape would have seen. But I think he also would have seen his mother, Eileen, healthy and happy looking, never afflicted with the scars of physical and emotional abuse she faced at the hands of his father.

That’s not how the mirror works. If snape saw what Harry saw, it wouldn’t be a reflection of snape’s happiest and deepest desire, instead it would shove snapes failures in his life back into his face and make him emotionally disturbed.

I think it really depends on how old he was standing in front of the mirror.. but in my opinion of what he would see in the mirror at the time that we was introduced to him he would see himself as not a dark individual and standing with Lily with a Harry that resembled him and Lily
Serius said Snape arrived at school knowing more curses than 7th years. The Marauders didn't drive him into the Dark Arts he was already up to his ears in them.
@jack rogers the marauders didnt take lily, lily didnt even like them. At least she didnt uptil like their 6th year. By which time snape had already killed their relationship by associating with people who practically wanted her dead as she was muggleborn and for lashing out at her and calling her musblood. Non of that was the marauders fault.

I read a fan fiction about this question. Snape saw nothing in the mirror, as his deepest desire was that he never existed. I think he should have been sorted into Ravenclaw. Also, I think looking in the mirror he would have seen a world in which the Marauders were never born, and he and Lily could have been happy together.

No snape won't be able to obliviate Voldemort cuz Of mastery of occlumency and legilimency by the dark Lord. Even if snape try to obliviate him voldy would read his mind through legilimency and would stop him to do so.

I think you're right about when Snape looks into the mirror, and if he's school age, or later in life. I don't agree with your conclusion, and here's why; Snape was relentlessly bullied by the marauders. Any child who is forced to deal with this kind of abuse, and it is abuse! would imagine being able to defeat the bully!
Lily would never marry Snape...she didn't want to be friends when he was just planning to be a Death Eater, definitely not going to be interested when he actually is one.
It's obvious he'd see Lily. To a lesser extent he might even see his parents and everyone he was powerless to stop the deaths of that he could have prevented if he had acted. He just strikes me as the type who had to live with the massive weight of those he failed to save on his shoulders.

If he did see them there, the Marauders would have been gone, especially James. I personally think he wouldn’t have gone back that far. Snape could go either way in terms of Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. He's as loyal as any Hufflepuff. But he's super intelligent, and the Half Blood Prince textbook proves this, along with his mastery of Occlumency.
Feelsbadman, would he see himself being put into Gryffindor? usually people with lost loves mentally survive by identifying a key difference which they convince themselves is the lynch pin where everything went wrong. someone with the trauma of severus may feel that if only that had been not the case, either himself being put into lilys house, or even lily being put into slytherin where he, as a kid, may have thought he could have been closer to her. but she never would have been a slytherin

I suppose the real romantic of the tragedies of the HP stories is Snape. I may disagree with Lily's opinions sometimes, yet her willingness to sacrifice herself to save her son is her most redemptive quality. Yet, she should have never been put in that situation. There is no way I can hypothesize what Snape would see in the mirror. Time may have changed his feelings or thoughts. Would young student Harry (who saw himself with his parents) see in the same thing in the mirror as older father Harry? Probably not.
I think Snape would see himself happily married to Lily with a son who looks as much like him as Harry does James and perhaps a daughter who looks like Lily.
I liked to think that Snape loved Lilly as a friend but just in a really deep way. I don’t like the unrequited love story. James potter victimised an abused and vulnerable child but it’s ok he sorted himself out. Hogwarts has a lot to answer for in terms of safeguarding and zero tolerance on bullying. Why are they letting extremists into Slytherin? It’s inevitable they would draw vulnerable kids in and screw up their lives. Shapes adulthood bullying of kids is on him even if he had to do it to please Voldemort and keep his cover.
Do you think there was any preferential treatment in the hiring practice of the wizarding world to fellow members of the same Hogwarts house? That is, would it be common for a wizard who was a Gryffindor while in school but is now in the working world and in charge of hiring, treat job applicants differently depending on what house they had been in school?
So if you really think about it, if it wasn't for James and Sirius, snape wouldn't have so much hatred in him and probably wouldn't turn to the dark arts. Which means in a way, James is responsible for his own and Lily's deaths.

If Dumbledore is disgusted at how Snape didnt care if Harry died as long as lily lived then why did Dumbledore raise Harry as a ‘pig for slaughter’?
He needed Harry to sacrifice himself for the good of all and because it meant that the unknown horcrux would be destroyed . But one could also argue that Harry couldn’t have died because of the blood Voldemort took, and Dumbledore knew that, but didn’t tell Snape, because of Voldemort maybe getting the info out of Snape and Harry needing to feel that he was going to die and sacrifice himself. But there are of course double standards in this story .
He didn't, he only needed Harry to think that he was going to die because Harry had to sacrifice himself in order to defeat Voldemort. Dumbledore knew (or at least was almost convinced) that Harry didnt die for real. But Harry had to think he was truly sacrificing himself.

As he had sacrificed himself for all the people in the castle, like his mother did for him, they are almost not affected by Death Eater spells, which leaves only Harry as a potential death. But come on, he is Harry Potter! He escaped the Dark Lord almost 10 times, robbed gringots, camped fleeing from a hundred death eaters and a lot of other people trying to catch him for the prize, why would he die from a 1/7 of Voldemort’s soul.

That’s not how the mirror works. If snape saw what Harry saw, it wouldn’t be a reflection of snape’s happiest and deepest desire, instead it would shove snapes failures in his life back into his face and make him emotionally disturbed.

Serius said Snape arrived at school knowing more curses than 7th years. The Marauders didn't drive him into the Dark Arts he was already up to his ears in them.

@jack rogers Lol James was just chasing a girl that's what guys do, Snape after growing up still can't get over the fact that James bullied him (while snape did quite some things back as well) he can't get over the fact that he couldn't get the girl (which was his own stupid fault by starting with dark magic and calling her a mudblood) And he portrays all of the hatred he has for James on James and Lily's only son just because he looks like James . I really love the video bcz it's about my favorite character Snape..and I knew what he would see in the mirrors of Erised..but you have answered one of my questions which I wasn't able to understand even after reading the hp books..that Snape was not like Voldemort, who was cruel, power hungry..Snape was a good person from childhood when he met Lilly but I didn't understand why he was interested in dark arts and why he created those hex , curses under the name of HBP..

I think you're right about when Snape looks into the mirror, and if he's school age, or later in life. I don't agree with your conclusion, and here's why; Snape was relentlessly bullied by the marauders. Any child who is forced to deal with this kind of abuse, and it is abuse! would imagine being able to defeat the bully!

Lily would never marry Snape...she didn't want to be friends when he was just planning to be a Death Eater, definitely not going to be interested when he actually is one.
It's obvious he'd see Lily. To a lesser extent he might even see his parents and everyone he was powerless to stop the deaths of that he could have prevented if he had acted. He just strikes me as the type who had to live with the massive weight of those he failed to save on his shoulders.
You said that he’d see them in the same house, but I don’t think he’d see them together in Gryffindor as the Marauders were all in Gryffindor. If he did see them there, the Marauders would have been gone, especially James. I personally think he wouldn’t have gone back that far. He would have just seen him winning Lily, living a normal life (for a witch and wizard) with no James and no Voldemort to interfere.

Snape could go either way in terms of Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. He's as loyal as any Hufflepuff. But he's super intelligent, and the Half Blood Prince textbook proves this, along with his mastery of Occlumency.

I suppose the real romantic of the tragedies of the HP stories is Snape. I may disagree with Lily's opinions sometimes, yet her willingness to sacrifice herself to save her son is her most redemptive quality. Yet, she should have never been put in that situation. There is no way I can hypothesize what Snape would see in the mirror. Time may have changed his feelings or thoughts. Would young student Harry (who saw himself with his parents) see in the same thing in the mirror as older father Harry? Probably not.

I liked to think that Snape loved Lilly as a friend but just in a really deep way. I don’t like the unrequited love story. James potter victimised an abused and vulnerable child but it’s ok he sorted himself out. Hogwarts has a lot to answer for in terms of safeguarding and zero tolerance on bullying. Why are they letting extremists into Slytherin? It’s inevitable they would draw vulnerable kids in and screw up their lives. Shapes adulthood bullying of kids is on him even if he had to do it to please Voldemort and keep his cover.

That is, would it be common for a wizard who was a Gryffindor while in school but is now in the working world and in charge of hiring, treat job applicants differently depending on what house they had been in school?
