    Other good options for smoker fuel are the cardboard from egg boxes / cartons. I also use dried grass nuts / pellets that are sold as sheep feed at agricultural suppliers. They burn a bit slower than using hay due to being compressed and give a lovely cool smoke. Cheap too!
    Washing soda crystal solution is also a good option for cleaning hive tools and gloves.
    Loving the channel Richard. Hope the honey harvest goes well and you aren’t too knackered at the end. 👍

    Good point on shaking in extra nurse bees. I forgot on one split and they are so slow to build up. A couple of good shakes of bees goes a long way in growing a new split. Those divider frames are new tool I may have to look into. Thanks Noel and relax, we love listening to your wisdom.

    Richard, our climates are similar. I just finished making my summer nucs to overwinter last week. All but one have numerous queen cells started as of today. Found a few hives that swarmed late and had queen cells in them in the process. Harvested some extra cells to place in nucs that failed to requeen.

    I'm using pet bedding as smoker fuel. Cedar or pine. It burns and makes smoke.

      @@richardnoel3141 in '78 I used wood chips. My mom got the bright idea of having an entire truckload of smoker fuel in the yard. Lighting it sucked. Took forever. With cedar shavings I just tilt smoker, fire up the bottom with a plumbers torch, shake it a little then stuff it full. My bees make plenty of honey. Enough to pay for hamster bedding.

  • @EnergyhillsBees
    @EnergyhillsBees 4 роки тому

    Gas Vap Pro kit is the best one to go for! Also for those using wooden pellets to light their smokers, rather than getting them from a bee supplier store, its cheaper to buy a bag of cat litter, as its pretty much the same wooden pellets.

    • @richardnoel3141
      @richardnoel3141  4 роки тому

    You said 200 kilo per hive. That is 440 US pounds. That is a huge amount of honey for a single hive in the USA. 120 pounds is average in Louisiana.

    • @richardnoel3141
      @richardnoel3141  4 роки тому +1

      Yes I was a bit over estimated there, taht is a lot and it’s rare I get that, but with the right bees, in the right flows, moving your bees to the nectar, you can achieve big crops, but that’s 4 different crops. We generally only have 2 here, so it’s more around the 120 kilo for me in my area.

    Love the videos and I don't mean to be rude, but could you set your white balance off automatic on your camera? Sometimes in the middle of videos there's a switch between red and blue tinges because it's automatically changing itself. I hope this helps.

      Yass Yass I find the defensive hive to produce a bit more but you’ve still got to be able to work them, hives that are larger than a single become more defensive with the more stores they have in the colony, it’s a normal trait even for the calmest genetics👍 you’d be the same if you had a great big Latino multi-gen family and all saved your money together only to be home invaded by some huge white dude with a knife you’d all be pissed 😡 too 😂
