I still can't get over how accurately they got the camera panning, shots, unusual angles, the Owen Wilson impression, text font, and just everything just screams Wes Anderson that I can't believe he wasn't secretly involved in making this
From one of the other comments, it looks like he was somewhat involved (at least with the title).
But yeah, this is brilliant.... It's more of an homage than a parody.
It's missing a long tracking shot.

That's because his style is so predictable. SNL have comedians - they understand humor. Wes Anderson movies are the same joke in every movie. Weird shit happens and people act like robots. So boring.

I love the subtle detail that the murderers have their own customized stationary paper is unreasonably funny to me
Every year or so I come back to this skit and it never stops making me smile. It’s so spot on and it’s not mean spirited. It’s great.

It's actually pretty accurate. Did you know that legally no one is allowed to murder you without your consent?
We all know the next scene would be after the murderers read the letter, they would have a long debate on rather or not if they should continue on their plan of murdering them. Then there's that one murderer who's completely off topic from the debate but you relate to him/her so much for their airheadness.

In addition to everything that everyone else already brought up - the perfect use of colour, framing, fonts, “quirky” archaic references, etc. - the music was also fantastic. Perfect juxtaposition of symphonic classical, indie folk, and kitschy 1950s pop. Truly, one of the best parodies of Anderson I have ever seen; and perhaps, even, one of SNL’s finest shorts.

Man they even nailed the dolly shots, quick cuts, and flat camera angles found in his movies. Some of this is too real it goes beyond parody
someone (or someone's) are probably huge fans of his. 10 bucks says they got their other busywork done so they could pour tons and tons of time into this

the director of this, rhys thomas, also works on the show documentary now starring bill hader and fred armisen with seth meyers writing as well. they parody documentaries as amazingly as this and its a whole show! highly recommend

This is both a parody and a love letter to Wes Anderson's movies and his style of making them. Whoever made this is truly a huge fan. Man, I really want Wes Anderson to make a horror comedy now,

@Jacob Bidelman He creates an illusion of a story, with the flashy cinematography and the artificial dialogue and robot-like camera movements. It's all style and ZERO substance.

Agreed - great parody requires the both the maker and the audience to be familiar with the conventions of the subject. Maybe Anderson is still too niche to click with the majority of the audience? I loved it.

I just keep coming back to this skit over and over through the years. It has to be my favorite SNL skit ever.
Fun fact : for this bit, Edward Norton asked Wes Anderson how he would name a horror movie, if he was to direct one.
Wes came up with three titles and the SNL writers just had to pick which one they liked best.
They also asked Wes' girlfriend to steal some of his cloches, including a pair of pink socks.

I was going through Wes Anderson movies recently after three trailer dropped and i was like, “i don’t think I’ve seen that home invasion one, it looks good” and now i found this video again and realized it was a skit i forgot lmao

3 years later and this is still 10/10. Can directors host SNL? Would be hilarious if Wes Anderson (g)hosted. You never see him except for the opening monologue, and he directs all of the skits. Each one features one or more of his frequent fliers along with the SNL cast.
With a stop-motion sketch about a current event...
Honestly? Bringing on host directors that direct the skits and bring along frequent flier guest actors just sounds like a pretty awesome way to spice up SNLs formula generally.
Couldn't be all the time, but you just know that it'd be a headline grabber.

I really loved the Wes Anderson cameo at 0:45 and 1:45 with the cleaver and the phonograph. The only slight peek of the hair was such a great touch.

Agreed! I quite recently became a fan of his work due to my recent interest in Owen Wilson, which is is due to my interest in the character he played, Mobius, in the Marvel series Loki. Wes Anderson makes some pretty interesting films and it's amazing how different and unique they are to those made by other directors. I wish I had found out about him sooner.
