The way he feinted with his right shoulder to get into position for the left hook is amazing. Another trick there are no old timers around to teach. A magnificent fighter.
I was never a big fan of Jimmy McLarnin though I've known him for years. And I just realized how massive and impressive his resume is. The man beat 13 individual International Boxing Hall of Fame Inductees. 13! Names like Pancho Villa, Bud Taylor, Kid Kaplan, Sammy Mandell, Sid Terris, Jackie Field, Fidel LaBarba, Ralph Giordano, Tony Canzoneri, Billy Petrolle, Lou Ambers, Barney Ross and Benny Leonard. (He has 16-8-2 record against Hall of Famers) How impressive is that? Compare them to modern all time greats Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Manny Pacquiao is 9-3-1 against 7 individual Hall of Famers while Floyd Mayweather jr is (so far) 5-0 against 5 individual Hall of Famers. Jimmy McLarnin beat 13 individual Hall of Famers. More than Pacquiao's combined wins against 7 individual Hall of Famers. Imagine that! McLarnin is a beast!
Another gem! Although his KO record doesn't show it (due to him fighting 11 International Hall of Famers -some multiple times), McLarnin (apart from being a great boxer) was a devastating puncher in the Lightweight and Welterweight divisions. He picked up a load of tricks fighting all those old warriors.
@@hanzagod imagine he came from flyweight (actually 114 a bantamweight) and knock out welterweight champion Ralph Giordano in a single round. How devastating is that. Even Manny Pacquiao who is known for power can't even do that.

it's because of the gloves. the gloves in his era was too thin using high guard defense will only put you in danger more. plus, McLarnin's style is a combination of bare knuckle boxing, pioneer glove boxing and street fighting techniques.
Even as a life-long boxing historian, I admittedly have never heard of this "frog": BoxRec, which is a trustable website for me, lists this "Irish frog" as no less than the 2nd..............that's right.............the 2nd greatest boxer of all time -behind Sugar Ray Robinson. 2nd! His record wasn't that great: 55 wins 11 losses. McLarnin is considered to be the "greatest Irish boxer of all time." He must've been some kind of an 'anti-Semite': Among his million nicknames are: "The Jew Killer," "The Jew Beater," and "Hebrew Scourge."
The public and the press were not so politically correct or culturally sensitive in those days. Jimmy was no anti semite. It was just the way it was in those days. My father’s generation. He had good pals his entire life who were know as little dago, hymie the Jew and Stanley the polack. No one took offense in the first 40 years of the 20th century when it was not meant in a derogatory manner. Times have changed.

His record was great. 55-11 but he fought 13 Hall of Famers. That's more than Pacquiao and mayweather combined. Rating him 2nd is a little high for me but he was absolutely one of the best ever. A TRUE All Time Great.
Brilliant highlight of a fantastic boxer.

One of the underrated greats, THANKS for this vid man
From my home city and I'm embarrassed (scundered) to say this is the first footage I've seen of him. Good work man!
Hes my uncle and this is the first time ive seen this footage , am starting a fb page dedicated to his career
Beautiful awkward style! I gave a look at his record and he beat some legends like Canzoneri, Ambers, Ross, Corbett.. DAMN!

Yea he was a very dangerous puncher, one of the most deceiving KO % records in boxing history in my opinion.

Greatest Irishman to ever step in the ring
Don't let Steve Collins hear you say that lol
Old school!
The best!

Didn't realize there was that much footage of McLarnin out there. Thanks for the great highlight.
poor Benny leonard at the end... it's a shame he needed the money. that's the only reason why he fought him.
All time great unquestionably great work
Had an amazing career..and retired with 500k in the bank, aged only 28..Had a great manager Pop Foster, who really looked after him.
good job hanza!
This is my great great uncle
He’s one of the best of all time
Strange way of fight. Almost didnt cover his head and open his arm in a very free way of punching but its complement with his reflexes

@ hanza what do u think of Santa Cruz vs frampton
Good fight. I'd pick Santa Cruz to win based on his work rate.
Coach says I fight like him. I only wish I could be 1/2 the fighter he was
I wish my coaches even knew anyone from the 80s or before, except Ali of course

He went through a spell of knocking out contenders, who all happened to be Jewish. Religion didn't come into it.
