The 1969 Dodge Charger, also known as the "General Lee," is a highly recognizable muscle car that played a central role in the television series "The Dukes of Hazzard" which aired from 1979 to 1985. The car is painted bright orange with a Confederate flag on the roof, and its doors are welded shut, forcing the show's main characters to enter and exit the vehicle through its windows. The General Lee is known for its signature horn, which plays the first 12 notes of the song "Dixie," and for its incredible speed and ability to perform impressive stunts, such as high-speed jumps over other cars. The car has become an iconic symbol of American pop culture and remains a beloved part of many fans' childhood memories.

When filming was complete in GA, Warner Bros sold one completed, but unused General Lee #6 (Volo Museum car) through local ads in a newspaper. Then in 1991 Warner Bros sold the 17 remaining General Lees, just sitting on their lot, to the public. The General Lee that Bubba Watson owns is Lee #1. It is the General Lee that jumps Rosco's patrol car in the opening scene. It was bought out of a private junk yard at a transmission shop in GA.

Something to consider is that after the first 2 or 3 seasons, the POPULARITY of 69 chargers shot thru the roof, which is what led to possible shortages of available cars.
However, WB studios would've had a nation wide buying power(yes, even then) regarding studio/tv/movie cars, so idk how true the shortage idea is/was. Though, thru all the years of TV & movies, the popularity has only risen, which is a serious contributing factor to current day prices for 68-70 Chargers.
WB studios also got plenty of return on the vehicle investments thru usage in other TV series and/or TV movies. Certainly most of us remember seeing repainted G.L's used in The Fallguy, Simon & Simon, Knight Rider, etc, etc. for years after D.O.H was over. I also remember seeing them used in TV movies as bad guy cars over the same time frame.

Love the channel but I have to correct you! There are 17 real General Lee's left drivable I mean! The General Lee owned by Bubba Watson is Lee#1 the very first which was used in the jump over roscoes police car in the opening credits which apparently was a world record jump! It was found in a junkyard in Dawsonville Georgia by Travis Bell for $400 was a wreck but was restored to as it was seen during the jump! It's the only car that has the chrome rocker covers! There's also a scene where bo a Luke load slot machines in the trunk and do a big smoky burnout! Where the car has bent quarters like it already performed a jump! They may have done two jumps with the car! Keep up the great content! It would be cool if you do one of these on famous cars like Carroll Shelbys twin supercharged 66 cobra or the Shelby Exp500's Little Red a twin supercharged 427 67 coupe and the Green Hornet a Green 68 Exp500 coupe with independent rear suspension a Conolet Computer controlled fuel injection set up on a 427 Ford v8! These were Experimental Gt500s build by Carroll Shelby to test new designs of the Gt500's! Very interesting story's very beautiful 1 of 1 cars! Mabe even doing famous surviving TV cars and details might be popular!

Only 68s and 69s were used. No 1970s Chargers were used according to John Schneider in his video because the 70 Chargers had a slightly different front end and grill which was a bit larger in diameter compared to the 68 and 69s and also 70s had an additional larger metal trim piece made onto the hood and fenders and below the grill(which the 68 and 69 cars didn’t have that and just had smaller trims made into the grill and had a more slimmer sized front nose), where he explained would be a bit more difficult and take much longer to make it look like a 69 and be able to cover it up during filming. So the 68s had the same size grill and front nose and was much easier and quicker to swap over in order to start shooting scenes

$125m in royalties for merchandising? The cast was never paid all their share of that by Warner Bros according to James Best.
He took legal action over that, but it dragged for years and was still unresolved upon his death.
