After watching this video last month I bought the ruler from Amazon and it arrived today - can't wait to start using it - thanks for this demo - Lesley in the UK PS. I also bought the 'shape cut plus' ruler and the cutting mat / pressing board last year - love them both :)
Clear demonstration and a perfect quilter's tool. Nicely done. Can you tell me about your pressing board? How it's made and it's dimensions? It looks very light weight.
Michelle Chipman I believe the pressing board you are referring to is the Cut 'n Press. It's available in two sizes; a 12" x 18" and 11" x 11". They weigh approximately 2 to 3 pounds. I always thought you needed to ADD A FULL 7/8th inch to the finished quilt block size when making a half square triangle. So if you want a finished 5-1/2 square, you would need to start with (5-1/2 + 7/8) a 6-3/8th inch blocks.
Hi J, Calculating to a finished squared block, you add 3/8". So if you are working with a series of 3-1/2" blocks, you would cut your fabric squares to 3-7/8". If you are calculating to finished size pieced blocks, you are correct, you would add 7/8". So you would cut your fabric squares 4-3/8" if they are to appear as 3-1/2" after piecing is completed. Hope this clarifies.
Thank you for your tutorial. I purchased this ruler and just love it. Learning by watching you helped me to make perfect triangles.
