The battlefield in Ukraine has been the hottest spot on the planet for three consecutive years now. Ukrainians and Russians are constantly trying to outsmart each other in finding new military strategies. You've all seen how Ukrainian FPV drones blow the turrets off tanks and turn them into heaps of scrap metal, while the Russians have been trying to advance with their unusual "turtle tanks," delivering infantry further under their armored shells than any APCs.
Today, we’ll talk about the Russians’ unconventional strategy, where they use rather unusual machines to break through Ukrainian defenses in cities.

The ring of a turret is very vulnerable. In traditional tank fights it's not easy to hit. The real issue is Russian tanks utilize an auto loader that has all the rounds staged in a ring around the turret. Any failure of the ring will cause a secondary detonation. That's what is causing the turret launches.
The Abrams and several other Western tanks have blow out panels in their ammunition storage, as well as utilizing wet stowage (a way of using fluid to reduce risk) to prevent secondary explosions from completely destroying the tank or killing the crew.
Russian tanks are generally obsolete in every regard, their engines are just modified version of the ancient T34 platform. Their fire controls are mid 60s and 70s. Their optics (if they have them) are barely 80s technology. They have reactive armor, but enemy systems already were developed to defeat that in the early 90s. The Cope Cages are just reusing WW2 German Schürzen spaced armor. The T14 Armata uses an engine based on the one the Ferdinand used in WW2 (famous for being unreliable and catching on fire with light usage). The rest of the components for the t14 require sanction prohibited western imports. It's a DOA design with mostly propaganda value.

the US and NATO have been working on, and have recently armed, their troops with anti-drone weapons. even some anti-drone additions to existing vehicles that include lasers, .50cals, stingers.
Russia just proves that they are behind the times, again. before Drones, it was top-down attack weapons. And they barely touched on that. They put some weak ERA on the tops on their turrets which dont have a high chance of protecting the target.
Tanks are history as are Paratroopers in U.K. will be deployed by ship/aircraft as light infantry from now on.
If you'd be serving in a NATO country, you'd NEVER see such stupid deployment of tanks.
The Russian tanks you see getting destroyed are often alone or in small groups. In the NATO a tank is part of a big unit containing several different squads for different tasks like recon or defense. You'd NEVER see one or two tanks with just a troup transporter driving straight ahead to the frontline. You see that both on the Ukrainian side, as well on the Russian side. The Russians should know better though.
And in general, NATO's air superiorty would take out most threats before ground forces are even advancing.

12 years ago Syrian military used UR-77 the same way against rebels. Apparently the charge is thermobaric and they used it to clear the length of the streets.

Putting a shell around a perfectly decent tank is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. It reduces platform effectiveness to what it can see. Probably around 45 degrees. But the worst part is that it reduces situational awareness by a solid 75%. That leaves the tank and crew so vulnerable that survivability isn’t worth mentioning. It’s no longer a front line platform.
Agreed. Not only that, a bad piece of equipment is just a bad piece of equipment. If the initial design is faulty (blows up easily), the design flow cannot be "papered" over and the deeper the flaw, the harder to revise, rework, remedy it is.

If you had paid attention you would have seen the turtle armour contains the blast very well and maximizes the force directed at the troops.
This is exactly the innovation one would expect to see - an "armoured" personnel carrier which makes attacks worse than they otherwise would be.
If you guys knew how shaped charges work you would understand why such armor can be effective at triggering the shaped charge war head too soon making its liquid metal spike splash onto the tank armor instead of digging into it.
Also it protects the troops on the tank from shrapnel of artillery (yes artillerys main job is to create shrapnel) and small arms fire and some small fpv drones perhaps. AND it boosts the moral of the troops being transported.
Doesnt mean it doesnt have down sides as well, however the T72 doesnt have any "situational awareness" towards its back or sides anyways as far as i know, which is why tanks need infantry and reconnaisance to protect it.

It is more of a stalemate. The Russians throw a huge amount of people and material in the battle. They have emptied out all the old storage places with cold war weapons. With a saturation on an area they gain little terrain against inhumanly costs. The Russians do not mind when they miss and hit urban area's.
The west halted the devilry of weapons to talk about it because they still can afford to be reluctant(money). Russia is far away and they have NATO to protect them. Russia will be lose to NATO within weeks, even without full American support. Weapon deliveries to Ukraine have resumed.
Putin's tactic is to cause as much as damage as possible to force Ukraine to sign a peace treaty. With keeping the pressure on they try to sway the west towards forcing Ukraine to give up the occupied regions for peace. Part of the deal is that Ukraine is not allowed to join the EU or NATO, keeping them week so he can try again a few years later. Putin want the old Soviet Union back.
Ukraine tries to drag in the west and possible NATO. When the most modern NATO weapons like tanks and helicopters join in, the numbers and strength will tilt towards the west. The Russians most modern weapons are few in number.
Russian gross power is on par with let us say France. Russia appears to be a superpower due to the nucleair capacity and the huge stockpiles of cold war hardware. The west is afraid that when they intervene, Putin will strike with nukes.
Because they only show things that are kind of going good for them, and not things where it is horrible mess. That's how propaganda works, in it both sides are winning.

Great video, really well put together. The war in #Ukraine has been an interesting lesson in how modern conventional wars should be conducted. The moment a $500 drone can destroy a multi million dollar state of art armoured vehicle is considerable, especially as hundreds of millions also went into its development
