I agree!!!!! I stumbled upon this channel because I was drawn to Wendy's hair - it's so much like mine. I gasped when I saw her. I had the same dye "journey" - went cold turkey. First five months sucked and I looked pretty ridiculous and had to deal with people mistaking me as my daughter's granny. I had many people doubt my decision and some became angry with me. It was the weirdest thing! And then, right after I finished my journey, silver hair became popular with the younger generation. I actually had several women stop me and ask me where I got my hair dyed. Ha ha! Anyway... It's one of the best decisions I made (I started going gray at 19 years old - dyeing it for that many years, it was getting to the point where I wasn't fooling anyone, y'know?).

I chucked the dye a couple of years ago now. I’ve had my hair all sorts of colours ending with chocolate brown before I stopped dyeing it so my transition was a bit Cruella 😆 but I cracked on with it and I’m now grey and groovy two maybe three years now. Better than the broken hair I had which got much worse during and post menopause. I even shaved it over the first lockdown...💃 🤭

I love your hair. I stopped dying my hair this time last year. And while the line of demarcation is driving me crazy, I’m glad I had the courage to do it. The chemicals in hair dye have been linked to breast cancer, and you’re right, they are horrible for the environment as well. I have been dying my hair for 20 years in order to hide premature gray. I hated having to cover up roots every few weeks. I feel more authentic and free now. Everyone says I am letting myself go but I think the final result will be lovely. Thanks for your videos !

@@kristinamullen4066well said. It’s a sad fact that so many people feel drawn to say nasty or bitchy things for some reason, maybe it makes them feel…idk, more in charge (maybe they feel out of control in their own lives. Who knows).
I think it takes courage to stop colouring your hair and let it be whatever colour it will be. Aside from the health and environmental reasons I think it’s so much better for our mental health to work on accepting ourselves for who we are, naturally, as much as possible. How much of the desire to colour our hair is influenced by the “hair business” I wonder, like the “beauty business” that pressures us to continue to look “young”.

I remember when you began growing your hair out and what a big process it was for you. It amazed me that it was four years ago. I had only just begun to art journal seriously and you were so encouraging of me.
I had the same experience as a classroom teacher Wendy. It literally nearly killed me and I am sure was the reason I got fibromyalgia and other autoimmune co-morbidities. Fortunately I was near to retirement and was able to manage my health better and to really get into my art.
I so admire you and James for selling up and running away in your van. I really wanted to run away too and I did so by actually designing and having my home built. It was, and still is, my hideaway haven. I did have a 4 week runaway adventure in Cyprus before I retired though. That was an amazing Shirley Valentine experience!

Teachers are who we entrust our children to for such a large percentage of the day and they deserve so much more recognition, support and better pay. That you both have some similar health challenges cannot be a total coincidence.

I love this. I've recently found your channel and it's like hanging out with the big sister I never had (being the eldest!) because there are so many little snippets of advice in there, and your manner is so natural and conversational. I was made jobless by covid this Christmas, so I've just started painting again after a long break, with a view to sell, and my confidence has been the biggest challenge. It was interesting how you spoke about finishing a painting being the hardest part for you. For me, it's about halfway through. I get to a point where I start over thinking it, and only learnt yesterday to STEP AWAY! I walked away from my painting yesterday halfway through with a plan to finish it today, and it felt so unnatural then, but looking at it this morning fresh, I'm pleased I did. I can see what I need to do much more clearly.
I'm also still in work mode. After years in education, mostly as a primary teacher, I still seem to have the mentality that if I'm not on my knees with stress, I'm not working hard enough. You talking about a process really helps that. Thank you for all your content. I'm enjoying working my way through it.

It's a long story but I had to give up my wonderful studio 2 1/2 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with cognitive decline and we had to leave our home and property. I had owned the White Oak Studio & Gallery for 10 years (that I designed and built) (and was part of the Blue Coasts Artists Working Studio Artists for over 10 years. I am a visual artist and former hand paper maker using the plant plants I grew and processed. I have missed my studio terribly When we downsized and moved to a small condo I did keep my journaling supplies and the physical journals themselves. This winter I got them back out and began again. I would like you to discuss different brands of journals and the papers they contain. I have been using my favorite brand that of journal that contain watercolor papers in it. My work is a blend of collage, hand-constructed handmade journals, and a kind of scrapbooking. My journaling is the the one creative thing I can do in my tiny condo on a tiny desk. I'll be watching!

I think I'm just impatient for it to be more grey lol. Would also love to hear more about van life...about your personal transformation/insights and journey...art, for me, is as much about the exploration as the expression so I'm always curious about the inner world of an artist. It’s the UA-cam equivalent of cozy socks, a good book, and a hot beverage, which is actually more rare than you’d think. Your hair is GORGEOUS; I have been using the pandemic as a chance to grow mine out without a zillion people commenting on it or watching the growing process so I really appreciated your response. I’d love to hear more about whether you do anything to keep the white/gray brighter (like a purple shampoo or toner??), and if you style it at all or is that just your natural wave/texture. Thank you for the 'hair' explanation. Yours is beautiful btw. I just want to say I had the same feelings you describe leading up to stopping the coloring. I had dark hair, colored it for a number of years, but wanted to stop for all the reasons you mentioned. The other difficult aspect for me was friends and even strangers saying I should keep coloring because I would look too old. I was upset with myself for letting that influence me but in all honesty it did. Once I made the decision not to continue with the color I was happier. Love your youtubes and thx for sharing your creative side.

Enjoyed this visit! Once upon a time I thought about a van life traveling here in America, I wanted to travel the east coast from top to bottom and then spread out! It didn’t happen, the closest I got was camping in a tent! Some good stories about canoeing down the Delaware river and such! Listening to your “journeys” brought up delightful memories and reminisces! Blessed and safe days!

I love that a big question was your hair. I don't have full grey yet, but mine are coming in. I watched my mother battle the roots for sooo many years and never wanted to battle them...she would HAVE to color her hair or she would be so embarrassed about the roots. So once I noticed I had grey roots, I stopped coloring my hair. Covid has also encouraged me to stay away from my long pixie cut and I have grown out my hair, it is down to mid shoulder now. It is so healthy! I couldn't believe it! Not coloring the hair, letting it be natural, and just going with the flow has been an eye opener for me with how unhealthy hair coloring was. I mean, it is obvious it wouldn't be good for the hair, but I feel like I got twice as thick of hair once I stopped and have let it grow!

Firstly Wendy thank you so much for keeping your eyes on the road when you are talking in the car, so many people seem to keep turning their heads to talk to the camera (we can hear you all quite well without you doing this). Thank you for being you Wendy. No such thing as Wendy waffle, I could listen to you all day..and often do, I just keep playing your videos while I paint. I would love to see you do more of your art (painting or journalling) but guess thats a patreon thing which isnt in my buget, so thanks for what we get here. Why has your channel grown??? --- Well thats because you are such a beautiful soul, with a gentle voice and kind nature. There is no "look at me arent I clever" we all just accept who you are and what you do because we love you.💜
I do wonder why people ask you such personal questions, I think thats very invasive to your privacy..why is you hair grey, how old are you, why did you stop UA-cam etc etc...seriously what has that to do with art or journal making. I would have thought that would be a negative for UA-cam. I have looked at dozens of channels and nowhere else do people ask such things...time to stop people, I feel they are taking advantage of your generosity and niceness Wendy. I thank you for your past videos and for those to come. I asked recently if you paint those big canvases which are usually turned towards the wall, and in this video I see that you do and what I see they are lovely, as was that small square white one with 2 faces you took off your easel. Have a lovely day and keep smiling that beautiful smile cheers from Western Australia 🤗🦘🦘🦘🙏🙏
