I was ecstatic when I saw this back up on your channel. To this day, this is the one video I think about the most when I’m hiking. The music, the pacing, the beautiful scenery, it’s all great.
I am so glad you decided to share this experience with us once more. Thank you so mutch for this, it inspired me to hike the CDT in 2019 and these where the best 5 months of my life so far.
Thank you so much for re-uploading this! I dream about long walks in open spaces set to this song almost daily. I'm ecstatic I get to watch this video again.
I’m SO happy that you reposted this. Your entire CDT playlist is great but to me, this video captures the magic of thru-hiking better than anything else I’ve seen. I watched this video a copious amount of times and it was such an important part of me readjusting after my PCT hike and getting motivated for the CDT. Thank you.
Been having a rough go as of late so this was a nice surprise. Thank you so much for making one of my favorite playlists available again, John. It helps out a lot :)
DUDE this is the best surprise bringing these videos back. I'm hitting the CDT in 3 weeks and this is the perfect way to get pumped for it. Love your vids man!
I’m so glad I found this video again! I first watched it 8+ years ago when you posted it. The song has been stuck in my head too. But for some reason I could never find the video again. Until now!
I honestly think this is my favourite video on all of UA-cam. I have watched it many times and it never gets old. I just love it! I even showed it to a class full of young students I was teaching for a day. Thank you so much for this! It has enriched my life so much. Inspiring!
How did you manage with such lightweight packs John?. Almost all the blogs and guide ive read the walkers have had 200kg packs. Did you have food drops, or a support crew?.
200lbs is still insane and i have never heard of anybody ever doing anything close to that on a thru hike. 80lbs is the max i've ever heard of and most people out there are under 40lbs and then there are weirdos like me that are only occasionally over 20lbs
Nice video. Do you think I could do this trail by just bringing a hammock and rain tarp with me? I know I need to research the trail more.. seems like a bunch of areas without trees. Or maybe I'll just drape the tarp over me and sleep on the ground if no trees are around ... do you think this is possible ? Or would you advise on bringing a tent the entire length of the trail..? Thanks!
there's a good bit of open land, but some people just use a tarp so no harm in a hammock too if you don't mind the weight and sleeping on the ground on occasion.
i posted a gear list video that is almost the same gear as I used on the CDT, just substitute the grid fleece with a down parka and a windshirt. I'll be doing in-depth long-term gear reviews and other gear selection related videos in the near future
+John Zahorian Wow that's much lighter than I would've ever suspected. I guess you went sans stove and ate bars and nutella mainly? You've really inspired me to follow through on a though-hike. CDT looks the best to me. Would you recommend against tackling CDT before the others?
Yep. Do it! Look into the PCT though. CDT is pretty challenging. PCT will be plenty challenging as a first thru hike and would probably be a more enjoyable experience for a first time hiker. But if you are really into doing the CDT, go for it. Staying motivated to continue is huge
carrot that was the shortest 2800 mile hiking vid i have seen, must be due to those leaving the camera out to film walking by then backtracking/returning to pick it up, just factor in those miles and call it an even 3gs lol

Just want to give you a really big WOW! Great video. I have been looking for a high quality CDT video series. Thanks for putting this out there.
Thanks for the videos. Awesome playlist. What was that blue button up shirt you were wearing near the end? Would you wear it again?
Thank you for making something different. Love the feel of this video, the shots, the edit, the music :D
Really great video! Amazing selection of genuine moments. The snow in the early season looked pretty hairy. Keep up all the hiking & cool media!
+Boggs12345 thanks! the early season snow was very hairy. big snow all throughout may made it basically a winter trip for a few weeks. learned a lot!

Holy cow! That's more than 26 miles each day. Well done!
allencrider thanks! had to ease into it and then deal with that snow, but for the last half high 30s was the norm. more miles more smiles.

+allencrider Especially going uphill (South->North?). Nice job!
Unbelievable is right! Congrats!
Appears Lilly fell out along the trail ?
If so, how far did you have to go it alone ?
✌ 👣 👑
Do you have a gear-list anywhere we can peruse?
