  • This video was filmed back in early February, way before the current global situation! hope everyone is being safe and is doing well!
    some of the plans I've mentioned in here have already changed, as usual.. mainly the drainage plans for the property. we will be installing one of ‪@FRENCHDRAINMAN‬ sump kits and ill be ordering well over 1000' of piping from him at some point this year. after watching many of his videos and learning as much as i can I think this will be the best option for our scenario. more on that at a later date though.
    Im sorry this video is fairly boring and uneventful in comparison to my regular uploads, but i felt it important to bring everyone onto the same page that im on... or that i was on lol.
    see ya in the next one!

      Mark Mortensen well we’ve slowed down. My work cut all overtime because of what’s going on so I’m working 40 a week and catching up on all the to dos around the house now. We got married on the deck Friday so that was fun! Now back to work hahaha

    I dug a 2 foot deep trench beside my drive way and filled it with rock and a pipe down the middle because water was flowing across my driveway. It doesn't run across my driveway no more lol

    What do you think, if you are going to be building a retaining wall, go a bit lower into the ground and dig the downhill side out enough you can get fall away from the house with the water, especially around that door. Would have to dig up that asphalt and make the swale down to where the trailer is parked, maybe move a phone line lower in the ground.
    There is also the nuclear option- jack the house up, put in 3 or 4 courses of cinderblocks and frame a floor on top of that, then set the house down on that.

    • @JasonWorksAlot
      @JasonWorksAlot  4 роки тому

      Ohh Paul I was more leaning towards an army of carpenter bees teathered to the foundation to lift it and hold it hovering above water level.
      What we’re actually going to do is build the wall, and create a swale in the middle of the back yard pitched down towards the garage. Between The garage and the deck where it’s the lowest spot currently I’ll be burying a sump basin we’ll put in French drains in the swale as well as an isolated basin drain, outside the French doors will be concrete with a 4” channel drain system that’ll also be piped into the sump basin. The overflow from the rain water tank, and the gutters from the garage will all go into the sump, and we will then run the discharge of the sump down to the end of the property. The end of the property also happens to be lower than where the sump will be so I’m going to attempt to put an overflow in with some fall in the event of power failure however ultimately the sump will be on its own breaker and I’ll probably put in an auto sensing transfer switch to the garage (where the sump pump power will come from) and have my generator wired to it in the event of power failure. It’s a fairly complex system but after shooting some grades and really running numbers I think it’s going to be our best option.

      @@JasonWorksAlot That's cool, you have a greater grasp of what you are dealing with than I ever will just watching these videos. Sounds like a plan, hope it works for ya. Will you need a 1 way valve on the drain in case the creek floods again?

    JasonWorksTooMuch needs to work smarter not harder. Forget the French drains. Take as much of that soil and trees out from the right side of the driveway. That will naturally slope much of that water to the front where the water can run off. Then you can see how much fill you need to bring in. It may solve many issues.

    Hey Jason, thanks for the videos. Why not just make a detachable root rake for the main bucket? Cheap, easy and skookum as frig:) If you ever get bored you can come help me. I have a fair sized yard and plenty of chores to be done.

    • @JasonWorksAlot
      @JasonWorksAlot  4 роки тому

      Toad I’m not sure that it’s got the power for a root rake honestly. But it’s certainly something you’ve got me looking into now!
      If I ever get caught up I’ll lend a hand! But I wouldn’t hold your breath on me, my to-do list currently takes up a 4x8 white board and it’s got its own note pad of overflow because it’s filled 😩

      barry hansen thanks Barry! We’re planning to do similar, but we’re just going to sell it and move on. However I can not allow myself to sell someone else something with these problems. We’re very fortunate that we’ve been able to fix all these issues and make these changes in a very short amount of time. I know that’s not the case for a lot of families and I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I just slapped a for sale sign on it and fled the problems. It’ll be all fixed and ready for the next owners the only things I refuse to do, are the roof (about 25 years old. Not in bad shape, and not leaking at all - and the driveway, it works, it’s cracking and has some pot holes which I’ll fill, but in my opinion it’s a luxury to have it freshly paved on a 34 year old house, not spending that kind of money)
      We’ll be looking for 35-50 acres either somewhere around here or in derby. Most likely in derby.
