  • This dungeon is HOT. Unlike the brain teasing Forest Temple, the Fire Temple opts for a straight forward, but action packed approach. Let's take a closer look.

Fun Fact: Volvagia first appeared in “Zelda II: The Adventure of Link,” however it was mistranslated as “Barba” in the original NES manual. It wasn’t until the 2003 GameCube port that the mistranslation was corrected.

I love that you brought attention to the updating of the Fire Temple song - I'm pretty certain I had the original cartridge when I was younger and when I played the game on the 3DS much later, I knew the song sounded different! Now I know why :) Loving this series so much!!

Yooo another great video!!! I somehow forgot about the whole Mass genocide plan for the Gorons... Pretty dark stuff, tbh 😝 I again love the music in this temple, so thanks for bringing attention to it. I didn't realize there were 2 different versions of it! Lol I love all of the bombs in this dungeon... So fun blowing things up 😜 Your analysis skills are still on point, and I can't wait to see the next one! 😊👍🏼

Volvagia blew my mind as a kid. OoT in general was a cut above just about every other N64 game visually, but I remember the serpentine way he moved being so cool compared to the robotic way bosses moved in just about every other game, N64 or PS1. And he's such a cool fight too.

11:48 You can also use the Hookshot to take the heart/head (idk what it is) while it's spinning. Also I noticed that in your version of the game even tho the music was removed and I'm guessing the red blood too, the blocks still have that sorta moon simbol, but was changed in later versions cause they thought it resembled islamism. I am loving this series

    Okay, okay, okay.
So there’s some theories about the Fire Temple and Volvagia that are pretty cool to think about. I think either Zeltik or Hyrule Gamer or some other Zelda theorist came up with this idea but hear me out.
So, I do believe that the Gorons use the Fire Temple as a place of worship but they didn’t build it!
Looking at Goron City and Dodongo’s cavern we can see that their architecture and building techniques is much more tribal and nomadic which stands in stark contrast to the elaborate stone masonry and intricate iconography found within the Fire Temple.
This theory also proposes that Volvagia was once the guardian deity of fire, like how the Great Deku Tree was for forest and Jabu-Jabu was for water. They were just so volatile that the ancient Gorons who first settled on Death Mountain thought of him as an evil beast not a guardian of a temple deep within the mountain they started mining into.
My own belief is that the Flare Dancers or a race related to them, fire beings of sorts, were the ones who built the temple in service to Volvagia, as the faces that are carved into the totems, walls and blocks look nothing like Gorons.

Had no idea I got the original as a kid though and only found out in this past year 🤷‍♀️ love the chanting here actually, pretty creepy. The new version is just too much reusing of forest and shadow temple for my taste. Not sure if you’ve seen them but there’s an analysis video on UA-cam of the music in ocarina that goes over the new version’s similarities to them: ua-cam.com/play/PL4rx7GrY_xH9QJiP7K4MwI3upgVkYkMuS.html

I also love about the fire temple that it’s inside spectacle rock (when looking at the map you can see the two “eyes”) and plus when you enter the temple you sort of go down the ladder then turn around to go inside so it’s basically under the two volcanic mounds inside death mountain. Always made me wonder about other connections with Zelda games, since it seems to be a prison-type place in ocarina of time.

  • @hambartha
    @hambartha 3 роки тому

This temple seemed more like a temple when you enter into the room after you climb down from that long ladder. The one thing that absolutely fazed me in this temple was in the room where the fire chases you, the locked door to the side requires 'a double-jump' in the N64 Version (was this resolved in later versions?) so you would have to press the 'A' button twice, I never knew this as I always seemed to fall into the lava. Did anyone else have this problem?

If you ever get the chance to play the randomizer for Ocarina of Time, this dungeon will straight up troll you with three potential scenarios:
    1. Placing a small key on Volvagia that you need when you have already made it to, say, the 3rd or 4th floor, requiring you to backtrack to defeat Volvagia, re-enter the dungeon, and climb back up again (hope you have Farore's Wind and a magic meter)
    2. Placing the Boss Key on the Compass chest, the highest Goron chest, or the Megaton Hammer chests (Ew!)
    3. Placing the Boss Key on the first floor and a major item on checks further up the dungeon (i.e. making you think you can skip having to check the entire dungeon when you really can't).
That is why I consider the Fire Temple to be my least favorite dungeon for randomizer. For a first playthrough on the vanilla game, it's great for its atmosphere, length, and challenging boss fight. :)

Oh boy, the Fire Temple! Looks like things are really starting to heat up now!
    ...
Anyone? No? Okay, I'm sorry. Moving on.
I always liked this dungeon since it feels like it conveys a real sense of progression in how you gradually free each of the imprisoned Gorons in order to obtain the next key. This dungeon is a perfect example of intertwining story-telling with gameplay. Only one other dungeon in this game comes close to doing that, but I'll get to that later. Now that you mention it, I never realised how late into this dungeon you acquire all of its key items. At least the Megaton Hammer is one of the cooler and more useful dungeon items in the game, so the wait is worth it if you ask me.
Also, I just have to talk about this temple's music. The original Fire Temple theme gives me a feeling that no other song in this, or any game for that matter, does. I put it down to the use of real Islamic prayers in the song. I'm not a Muslim either, and I don't mean to offend any by saying this, but the chanting only adds to this song, in my opinion. The updated version with the Shadow Temple-esque moans is passable, but I'm partial towards the original version, as it's by far the more unique of the two. It really hammers in (no pun intended) the idea that this place is, or at least was, used as a place of worship, and it is now inhabited by a destructive monster that knows no mercy. Prayers will not save you from the wrath of the beast.
And now we come to the boss itself, Volvagia. I don't really have much to add here, honestly. It's a flying, fire-breathing dragon. Pretty standard for a boss in a fantasy adventure game. The only noteworthy thing about the fight is that instead of being the world's most dangerous game of tennis, it's the world's most dangerous game of whack-a-mole. I'll admit that Volvagia's death animation goes hard though, and Ganondorf's plan of feeding the Gorons to it as well as the idea of it escaping Death Mountain and devastating the rest of Hyrule are grim thoughts indeed.
Besides that though, wouldn't it be convenient if you walked into the boss chamber only to find that Darunia had already slain Volvagia? Instead, he's nowhere to be found. I actually think that this is the biggest piece of evidence in support of the whole "The sages are dead" theory, but there's also evidence to debunk that theory so I won't delve into it here. I'm also kinda frustrated that Darunia doesn't acknowledge the fact that he has a son even once upon meeting up with him again. Did the writers just forget about that fact, or was Link the Goron a last minute addition? It would have made for some emotional dialogue, but they wasted that opportunity. Oh well.
On a final note: wow, I wish I knew about that solution to the puzzle at 9:34 when playing through this temple before.
