Love how much he name drops production staff and their contributions.
For some reason, the director's fav shots is never what we would think. It's usually what the audience doesn't notice.
So, this video confirms that he did direct 'Dredd' (2012)
Right lol
Was looking for this comment :D
Karl Urban pretty much said it in an interview not long ago...
Exactly. Was waiting for this.
Nope. It was directed by Pete Travis. It was written and produced by Alex Garland though.
A good director is good at directing.
A GREAT director surrounds himself with people who are good at their job, and includes them in the creative process.
And an even greater director acknowledges their invaluabe contributions to the final product. Love this.
Alex G and Denis Villeneuve are two of my favs. apparently Denis is very kind and collaborative and it shows in how favourably people speak on working with him, and the quality of his films. I think those two are really something special in trusting their crew/casts.
Devs is really underrated. That show stuck with me for weeks after.
Kudos to the set designer for coming up with the bathtub idea in Dredd, because it was a brilliant way to show how Ma-ma found a way to be opulent in the slums. There was very little to be had in the way of creature comforts in a rundown tower block, but a place to sit and enjoy a bath without a care in the world shows just how powerful Ma-ma is.
The flight path of the helicopter in Ex Machina is a Fibonacci spiral.
Dredd is so underrated.
Excellent comicbook adaptation.
I love the way Alex Garland's work always has a serenity and beauty with a menace lurking just underneath all of it. Excited to see Civil War.
What a generous director to his crew Alex Garland is. Brilliant. Just like his movies.
the shot of Wagner in Civil War is also my favorite. it’s so powerful!
So cool you have him on! I admire Ex Machina like few other films! To me it is perfection in every aspect. Never ever have I seen a film before or since that deals with the question of consciousness and humanness in such a profound and philosophical way and the filed of movies that deal with these topics is fortunaly vast and I've seen many of them, which shall just emphasize my compliment! 🙂
It was Ex Machina on which I wrote my first ever paper in Universitiy here in Germany, that's how far my passion for this film reaches
Silence is well used in Civil War and that scene with Joel is powerful.
Wild he chose the helicopter scene for ex machina. The red outline of ava, the reverse shadow of ava to close the movie, Caleb and Nathan by the waterfall, that whole movie is beautiful
I love Annihilation, Sonoya Mizuno really sold that creature that imitates Natalie Portman's character. For me it's a great modern sci-fi horror with classic cosmic horror elements. Some of the visuals are burned in my mind for ever.
Annihilation has weirdly become one of my favourite movies. it's one that just kind of hangs out in my brain until I re watch it.
Dredd and Ex Machina were both epic.
Such a big fan of his. Really looking forward to Civil War and hope the rumors of him leaving directing aren’t true…
Love this series
When I saw that shot in Civil War it instantly became one of my favorites. Glad he mentioned it
This is your most interesting and best recent video format in my opinion! More of that please!
I’d love to hear him talk about Sunshine
That was great.
I've done nearly 300 hours of interviews with the best cinematographers in the world on my channel in the past 4 years, I'm so mad I never thought of this format lmfao
This was so good.
Annihilation is underrated and hypnotic, the end terraforming alien thing and themes stay with you
Great voice...could listen to Garland break down anything or just read off phone book.
I thought Gavin Free from SloMo Guys did the high speed photography on Dredd.
We really need a drokking Dredd sequel!!! 🔥😍😎
There was initially a shot at the end of ex machina from the AIs POV and it was just totally alien, and digital. It didn’t make the Final Cut. I wish it had, cos I have to admit I don’t totally understand the story until I heard about that shot.
get tarantino, fincher and nolan for this series!
Usually it’s Director’s who have a film to promote so maybe when The Movie Critic comes out Tarantino can do it. Fincher and Nolan we’ll have to wait longer for.
Get Fincher and ask him to pick the worst shot from each movie, that would be more entertaining.
pls more
Alex Garland really likes screaming!
he sounds exactly like idris elba
bro those shots were nothing special when watching and now i love them as well
Bro you made home made movies but this time I see your channel was very different 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
doesnt seem like its the biggest moment in the film but did he just spoil his own upcoming movie?
oh cmon lol. it couldnt possibly.

If you don’t like this movie you’re a terrible person
Which movie?
Anhilation is one of the worst movie I have seen. That movie takes itself too seriously and doesn't make a single sense.
It does. Check out Dan Olson's analysis of the movie - Annihilation and Decoding Metaphor.
each his own, i think im going to rewatch it for like the tenth time.
