I've just turned 60. I say that like its a Badge of Survival, cos it fucking is. I grew up in England, gigging every week from the late 70s until I left the country in 1990... punk, ska, new wave, metal, alternative, swerving hard into acid house in '87, then rave. I left because I could see what was happening to my life with drugs and alcohol and the rest as the lifestyle became normalised.
It wasn't gonna end well.
Music is still the only constant in my life, but the horror show of the last 10-15 years has cast a huge pall of despair. The auto-tuned lipped-synced dirge the kids listen to now on their damn phones makes me deeply sad.
This band - THIS BAND - are a fucking revelation for me.
This band. Shit, I don't even know what to say.
My one & only experience of them live was deeply moving and a seminal live experience after many years of wondering if it was really all over. They've survived tragic line up changes and more and yet here we are.
