Your vegetable soup is basically the Jewish chicken soup recipe as you used turkey stock. Jewish chicken soup is known as Jewish antibiotic and is renown for healing poorly tummies and flus and colds. It works for poorly dogs too but you have to make it without onions for them 😊

My mother always referred to it as Jewish penicillin because it worked so well to help mend the broken.

@MAB3776s, they have said that there are enzymes in the chicken that help the body to get well. My parents also referred to chicken soup as Jewish penicillin. They grew up in NY in the 1920s and 30s.

Check your vitamin D level! It certainly won't hurt to supplement--everyone in the north should without question! I now keep my level in the 70-80 range and at age 80 have not had cold or flue in at least a decade, including covid. Best wishes! Love your kitchen.

I bet the Balsamic Onion Jam would be delicious on BLT's or even used as a marinade for pork tenderloin or pork chops. Also, I use Fire Cider in salad dressings all the time. You don't just have to drink it to get the benefits. Cheers!

I have been making Fire Cider for 10 years. If you strain and bottle it you can get another brew out of the ingredients. Just put them all back on the bottle and fill with ACV and sit for a month ❤❤

I loved this video! The idea of taking something old, and even discarded and using it in a new and different way is so much fun. We have a lot of old furniture and if we get something that breaks or we no longer use we always take it apart and save/use the parts, we have rebuilt so much stuff that way. I think it appeals to the creative side of me. All your canned food looks so good, I am now craving a bowl of soup!

I am sorry, but I did chuckle at you trying the fire cider - as a drinker of it, I knew what to expect. When you strain it off, be sure to pulverize the veg and dehydrate or freeze dry it for use as tea or in the kitchen. I like the idea of converting the closet but more for the things you use more often - an extension of the kitchen...things like your roasters and appliances, gallon jars of product you refill from the basement. I like the reclaimed wood as well. Good video.

On the pasta sauce w/ the ground beef issue, I had the same thing happen to me and to "use" it up I would add some fresh ground sausage to it when I cooked it so the flavor and textures were more mixed. That way it didn't just set on my shelf

Maybe being as far north as y’all are you ought to start taking some extra C, zinc and D during illness season. In higher elevations virus particles can get through your mucus membranes easier because the colder air can make the protective coatings thinner. And the sun has less reach as well- which would mean D deficiency.

I was watching your kitty at the door and laughed when she came around to the window. I’m in Minnesota and your ketsup chips really intrigued me because as a kid I used to dip chips in ketsup for a snack after school. Well I was able to order them from Amazon and I got them today. Even though they were a bit broken they are delicious!! They were shipped from Canada and a bit spendy but I had to try them once. I’ll have to write Lays to make them available in the states. I love your videos.

What an inspiration you are! I can only wish and hope my daughter, a little later on in life, will take up this kind of a challenge of a “homesteading” type of lifestyle (I hope that is the proper word of what you and your husband do?) I never thought to do so back in the day and never had a chance to acquire a property large enough to do so. But I definitely know it wouldn’t take much to have a pretty good starter garden in less than an acre. Great job, Chelsea and Dan! From a fellow Canadian, more on the eastern side! Love your channel!

Re: cool stuff. I’m in Australia and my rental has no insulation in the house, let alone the garage. I just use my stuff in half the time it’s meant to store for. A dug in storage area is my dream - even my 15 year old son the other day said we should dig a bunker given the current political sitch.

The acidity in the firecider is too strong to take without dilution. (burns the esophogus and other soft tissue even though your mouth seemingly can take it, it isn't recommended) I ldilute 1:3 or 1:5. Also use it mixed in with salad dressings.

Fire cider is great to make salad dressings, that way you can consume it more frequently in your salads. Also, I don’t know if you added honey, but if you didn’t you should, because of the health benefits it adds to fire cider but also because it makes it easier and more palatable to drink. I wouldn’t drink fire cider without the honey.

Suggestion for the new pantry, you could double the size of it by adding another wall / door parallel to the pantry door. It would just look like you have extended the lounge / kitchen wall. All you would need to do is move the coat rack, you could put that on the other side of the front door closer to the kitchen, or even leave it where it is and then it would be in the new cupboard. It would take very little effort to substantially add more storage.

I love fire cider!! Before the ick season started I was adding it to my salads with a little olive oil as a dressing and it was great!! And of course the first sniffles in the house, everyone was dosed! 😅
