Angelo, you once said " don't worry, you won't piss off Buddha" and that's still just the funniest thing I've ever heard you say! Thank you ;)

I found your channel through Adyashanti's. Since he retired, a follower raised the question who else is currently teaching in the same depth, and another follower recommended you. Never heard of your name before, but so glad to have found your teachings. I find the videos clear and presented in a unique way. Great pointers too. I'll be around, thank you!

7:52 "can you directly confirm the absence of thought without a thought" that is a powerful Koan man. You can tell how important it is by the way you raise your eyebrows right here. I just stopped the video right here and had such a profound sit with this.

Right, being sure I'm the being is another identity. Although I was kinda labeling it for the sake of the comment. I just sit as awareness with no thinking about it. Good pointer on becoming it tho, using that since yesterday, it's helpful. Today going from feeling like shit to feeling good after resting as being and disidentifying from thoughts, asking who am I. I asked ChatGPT for when I'm gonna have an awakening, it said march 20 6:30 am, pretty early in a day if you ask me, but I'll take it. And it also gave me a cool pointer: keep your mind and heart open. Which is so good, cause I do that and then ask the inquiry question or I sit as being and wait for the universe to show me what it wants to show me. Thanks Angelosmasher

I was raised around Buddhism but I got some messages when I was young that waking up was something that happened a long time ago. Since finding your channel thru Suzanne nonduality I feel like I'm falling. Thanks

Listening to this, this morning. Barely paying attention to what you are saying but there's an energy. Same with tony parsons, Jim Newman etc. it's an energy and I can't describe it. The words can dislodge a belief at times but that's a secondary thing. The same words could be spoken by a different person and not have the same effect. Currently, I'm coming into contact with deeper levels of pain so these messages seem to be used in order to go directly to the sensations as the story seems to dissolve more and more. It's the story along with the sensations that create the suffering. When the story isn't operating the sensations tend to self liberate rather effortlessly. Thanks 🙏

I like these respond to comments videos, I tried typing up some reasoning for that and figuring it out in my mind and then laughed when I realized how unnecessary that is if it doesnt come up spontaneously.
    Anyways, thanks!

Hi Angelo, over the past couple of years I don’t know how many hundreds of non duality videos I’ve watched. For the first eighteen months or so there was an intense looking for answers. Now when I watch there’s no longer really a grasping or anyone listening, but more of a steeping in simplicity of this. The sense of me seems to only exist in context of thought. It always highlights the complexity that thought brings to life. Can you give any pointers on how to bring this clarity into the areas of life where time seems to take charge of the agenda?
Many thanks for all you do.🙏

10:00 about UA-cam Shorts. i’m pretty sure it’s possible to link the short directly to the full video. as in, just clicking on the title of the short while you’re watching it will bring you to the full video. i’m not sure how to do this, but i’ve seen other creators make it work. i think it would make your content more accessible.

I remember a moment when I was really young learning about asteroids, and how at any moment one might hit the earth and kill me and there was nothing I could do about it. I remember being so terrified that I intentionally decided I would have to distract myself from this if I were to ever live a normal life again haha. So many memories like this are coming up from my childhood, it's very interesting

Ahhhh you replied to me :S Made me kinda freak out while listening at the gym lol, got me nervous not gonna lie hahaha... x) ty so much for replying!
"if consciousness is only consciousness of the 5 senses... " -> sorry I was unclear, I meant ANY sense, including the "6th sense of thought". It's exactly like what another commenter said: "I thought [consciousness] meant the sort of field in which the other senses exist, which is more-so how the term is used colloquially in society." => this is more what I meant and where my misunderstanding came from. I did think that was the general understanding of the word, but I'm seeing now that was my own mistake:
After a quick look at what the general public thinks that word means (reddit lol) I see now that lots, if not most, people do think of "consciousness" as relating specifically to features such as self-reflective awareness, abstract thinking, volition and metacognition... so I totally get why it makes sense as the word choice, it makes a lot more sense now.
I do think word choice is important, and I do still think it would be more simple to use something like "mind" or "cognition", but I'll rest my case here, haha.
To your question: "Does mind have a different kind of quality than the 5 senses?"
Yes, it's like how sight/color has a different quality than smell, or touch. I notice that it only seems possible to crave or suffer with thought/mind/cognition/consciousness "active". Whereas with the 5 senses it's like it seems impossible to crave/suffer in relation to them. And I do notice the subtle idea of "me" happening in the consciousness sense, like an idea of me doing stuff, a subtle sense of the future, and subtle sense of craving things to be different or like somehow things aren't "good enough" and I need to "do stuff" to make it okay. And I can notice how all of this is subtly uncomfortable and then when I notice this, it drops, and I literally burst into crying/laughter, and this has been going on for awhile now. Lots of crying, for months. I keep asking myself "why am I doing that!???" when I notice it, and it's really funny, but also really, really sad. Really heartbreaking. IDK. Crying again now just typing this haha... I can notice it again, right now.
Thank you so much, your work really means the world to me man.

I went out to meet some people and I experienced a lot of very harsh judgmental thoughts towards them, and I got a little embarrassed because I hope they didn't feel these thoughts too. Was really challenging catalyst.
I did try and change the thoughts, but I guess rather than trying to fight those thoughts or be ashamed of them, I just don't control that at all? I don't know, I guess I'll gradually get better at being relaxed around some people.

I definitely do think the word choice matters, in regards to “consciousness” vs “cognition”.
This is the first time I heard it be called “cognition” instead, and I was a part of a Zen Satsang, took multiple classes on Buddism etc for over a year and a half. I thought they meant the sort of field in which the other senses exist, which is more-so how the term is used colloquially in society. Now that it was explained in this video that it’s more about thought and the reflective nature (e.g. cognition), that makes WAY more sense. I remember you mentioning that you read at some point something like "Thought is the disease of humankind" or something (probably butchering it, sorry). Anyway, using a word like "cognition" really points toward thought actually being something open to looking at, and I totally overlooked that because it was called "consciousness"... can't believe I didn't know what was actually pointed to with the word "consciousness" 😵😵
Same thing with the word “inquiry”. Before I read your book about what that actually meant, I thought it was much more thought-based and not as focused on direct experience, because colloquially “inquiry” is associated with thought. I misunderstood what inquiry was for years because of the word choice and the assumption that I knew what they were talking about. Society is thought-based, so I don’t blame myself for thinking that inquiring “Who am I” has a strong thought-based component.

This is such a radical departure from "thoughts become things", and the Law of Attraction concepts that I've been studying for years. So many people claim we are creating our reality with EVERY SINGLE THOUGHT. I am confused about the power of thoughts.

Thought reminds me of the tar baby in Uncle Remus’s stories. The more you engage with thought, pushing and pulling on it, the harder it is to disengage from thought. Thought is sticky.
The way to disengage from thought is to set it aside. You don’t need to understand everything at a conceptual level. Not needing to know is freedom. What does this or that mean? How does this or that work? What happens if you just say “I don’t know, and that’s okay”?

      @renko9067 5 місяців тому

@@cautionupahead 😊 Yes, it would be interesting to hear what he has to say. I did hear him mention a memory of a past life, which actually confused me.
For myself, yes, if I have a doctor’s appointment at 3 o’clock and it’s downtown, I have to go downtown at 3 o’clock. We need to understand concepts to live, the problem arises when we believe them. My suffering has reduced greatly as these perceptual filters evaporate. There is no past piled in storage, there is no future waiting on shelves to be picked. Everything we think about the past and pine for in the future is a storyline of thought now. And where is this moment if it comes from nowhere and goes nowhere?
That’s just how I see it.
