Great job ladies!! Looks like you were having real fun while using your amazing talents to bring joy and smiles to us. My mother (born 1913) was really good at this...thanks for the memories!!
My grandmother (born 1905) was a "flapper" dancer when she first met my grandfather (born 1899), who was playing the violin or piano in the band she & her group were dancing to. They married in 1926!
Wonderful show! I've always liked The Charleston since I first saw it as a kid because it's so dynamic and is from an age where it was seen as really stepping out!
Absolutely fantastic. Charleston was meant to be fun when performed, and these ladies certainly make it look like fun. I imagine what great fun people would have had in the dance halls in the 1920s.
How do they DO that ??? And in such perfect unison. As one who can barely put one foot in front of the other I am in awe of these beautiful women and their talent.
Check out Ksenia Parkhatskaya's dance tutorials, with her guidance I've been teaching myself how to dance the Charleston and Black Bottom during lockdown :)
When my late granny came to weddings and wedding receptions / evening do, this is how she would dance, albeit slower. To her *this* was dancing because that’s how she danced in her youth.
I was shock one time when I went to my cousin Michelles wedding and an old (older) lady was dancing the charleston, with a hold that tiger sub. She was good too, she must have been 79 at the time.
Early (CHARLESTON DANCE) History: The Juba, It’s believed that the Charleston actually originated from a dance called the Juba. Juba’s origins began in Africa, and enslaved Africans brought it to South Carolina. The Juba involves one hand that’s constantly slapping and one foot that’s always stomping. It was popularized in the mid-1800s.
Tengo una familiar que murió a los 110 años y cuando ella estaba tenia 25 años estos bailes estaban de moda gano un concurso de charleston pero ya murió y me hace recordar a ella.

The Charleston debut was on Broadway in 1923. Couple of months that's a hundred years ago.
