MyKayla Skinner Says Simone Biles Will Not Be Twisting In New Beam Dismount (EXCLUSIVE)

- Simone Biles is going for the gold in balance beam and her teammate, MyKayla Skinner, is standing by her side. It was announced on Monday that the 24-year-old star athlete plans to compete in the balance beam final on Tuesday alongside fellow Team USA Competitor Suni Lee. Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans spoke to Simone’s Olympics roommate, MyKayla Skinner, who detailed how Simone made the decision to return to the beam. “I feel like last night, she’s like, ‘I’m ready for this, I feel like I can do this dismount and I feel really prepared’ so I think last night was the night she knew that she was going to be ready to go in and step in and do this,” Mykayla said. MyKayla said she is glad Simone made this choice and hopes she can put everything behind her and focus on her upcoming event. “She’s been working a new beam dismount so she’s not going to be doing twisting which is really good, and she said she’s feeling really confident,” she explained.

He looks genuinely interested in what she’s saying. He’s conversing in a respectful manner. Seems knowledgeable about what she’s done and her accomplishments. Need more people like him out there.
It's wild how easily we forget that these Olympians aren't wealthy and still have to go to college, work jobs. Olympians don't stop having to find a way to survive and pay for their sport. These sports are expensive. I'm so moved by her husband being there and supporting.
Gymnasts at their level are not poor. Their rent and food are covered because they are part of the US gymnastics team (she mentioned it on her channel). Also, I am not sure about US, but some countries pay something like a retirenment payment for the rest of their life (the amount depends on the no. of years they were active and the results). And of course they study, they need to find some type of career after their gymnastics career ends. I tend to believe most athletes at their level do not pay for college, they are on full scholarships (why wouldn't they?). Most money during their active years though, they earn from commercials and similar stuff. She also has her UA-cam channel, she has a decent income from it as well, I am sure. Several gymnasts have one.
@@potocatepetl 2022 is the FIRST year that collegiate athletes are allowed to earn ANY money from their sports. Up until this year, that was strictly prohibited. Most team USA athletes get barely any funding at all from their federations. Take a look at Grace McCallum, who was on the 2020/2021 Olympic team. She is one of 6 or 7 children in her family, and her family had to make huge sacrifices to be able to afford to pay for Grace's training. The parents could not afford sports/ activities for any of the other children in the family after paying for Grace's training. If you think USAG was paying the McCallum family's mortgage and grocery bills, you are sorely mistaken!
@@carrietremble Mykayla herself talked in one of her videos about what they pay for her, so stop spreading lies. I have no idea what they payed for Grace, but I doubt they made an exception only for Mykayla. Yes, parents have to make sacrifices before they reach a certain level, and not everyone can afford it, but afterwards they get a lot of financial support an so should they.
@@potocatepetl No, they DON'T get lots of financial support in the USA! They certainly are not getting their mortgage paid for. This is the USA, NOT China/ Russia! What they get from the federation is a drop in the bucket compared to what their costs are. Why do you think that before name, image, and likeness happened for collegiate athletes that many athletes did not take any money from sponsorships? What they would have gotten from those sponsorships would have been less than the value of a gymnastics scholarship, which, after spending a literal fortune on elite training, was the only affordable way to attend college for many of the athletes! You are living in dream land if you think USA gymnastics is giving these athletes a ton of financial support! Again, LOL at you seriously thinking USA is paying the mortgage for gymnasts!

Finally!! Mykayla has trained 18 years for this ! She has been shredded since she became a senior for her form, which she has improved on a LOT! She was All-American Collegiate and I can't think of a gymnast whose come back from college and actually medalled in an Olympic games! She had covid leading to pneumonia..injuries... AND NOW AN OLYMPIC SILVER CHAMPION! YESSSS!!
Love Myk, so proud of her. Fun fact though…Mohini Bhardwaj won silver with the us in Athens after competing at UCLA. I’d love to see more NCAA athletes give it a go like they both did.

@Jim Lahey she had a twisty in the air and was lucky she didn’t break her legs or neck. Getting lost in the air is incredibly scary and dangerous and has led to many gymnast injuries and several deaths, which you’d know if you knew anything about gymnastics or have ever done it yourself. A college athlete died from landing on her neck after having the twisties not too long ago. A Russian gymnast was still injured while training many years back and was mentally and physically exhausted, resulting in the twisties and her landing on her neck. She was paralyzed and years later died of her injuries. You are most likely one of the same people who would’ve complained that Simone should’ve known her limits and taken herself out of competition before injury had she kept going and landed wrong, seriously injuring herself and costing the US team a medal. Plus, she didn’t even bail. She was there coaching them and cheering them on the entire time, and they won silver. Maybe you can be taken seriously once you know what you’re talking about and actually put some “EFFORT” into understanding the sport and not being a crap person. There’s such a thing as not being willingly ignorant - you should try it. While you’re at it, learn what empathy is too.
@Jim Lahey You can if you want your team to medal and your failure to execute due to mental issues is causing deductions to your and therefore the team’s score. The difference in winning and losing in gymnastics is often a thousandth of a point. That’s the difference between making the podium and going home empty handed. Simone put the team first while taking care of her mental health. These ladies know it and appreciate it. And the Olympians are supporting her.

MyKayla, I just started watching you about a week ago. I watched your UA-cam. Your journey had a happy ending. I’m so happy for you and Simone. I saw y’all together in this journey. Two separate roads but really one path. With Simone being such a great encourager with all of the US team. I think what happened with the rest of the team getting to get their medals too really brought such light to all of your lives. I just wish NBC had better coverage. There were technical issues with the camera. Did you notice the camera was pushed in on a single on the interview for an extended period of time while Mykala was speaking.

She’s doing double pike dismount off the beam. Practicing a double layout first is helping to train her brain not to twist her body when she’s coming off the beam before she grabs her legs
