I've been self tanning for ten years and still love watching these videos to learn new things! I have to apply oil on my legs before putting on the tanner. I also learned finding a tanner with the right undertone to my skin tone so I don't turn orange. No one wants to be orange!!
Marnie, I have to thank you for your recomendation on the Chico's linen dresses recently. I wore the navy blue cap sleeve dress with the shirt-looking hem to my son's graduation yesterday. I rarely wear dresses, I'm big busted and they just don't look good on me (I feel like my grandmother in them, I'm 63), but my three daughters complimented me all day and told me how pretty I looked. It was SUPER comfortable, so I even wore it out to dinner. It felt great and I thought how lucky I was to find your channel a year ago. You've helped me up my style quite a bit in the last year! I've had really good luck with using a travel makeup brush or kabuki brush with dense bristle volume to spread the tanner on my feet and hands (easier to get between digits and into knuckle creases) and I put a thick lotion on my elbows and knees right after shower - that prevents the tanner from grabbing onto thos areas and getting really dark. thanks for the tips - its a chore to do this but well worth it!

I was paying $70 a month at a tanning place to get spray tanned last year but now I just do not want to go anywhere due to depression. having this as an option at home, I love it! I jumped on the bandwagon but missed several of these steps and it shows ….so thank you so much for all of this description Marnie.

Great advice. Have been self tanning for years. The mitt is a game changer. Just tan my legs with Jergans after shower lotion. I am in the sun a great deal due to my large garden so just fake tan the legs or use to even out tan lines. Always use sunscreen and if you are out a lot, can still get good tan from the sun.

The feet and back of my feet were a bit tricky but I preserved with the brush you recommended. Thank you for an in-depth tutorial on how to use the products. No wonder I looked blotchy. I do use a Goshi towel for an even exfoliant, use it in a shoe shine maneuver, and it feels so good.
I want to suggest the St. Tropez self tanning water mist spray for your face and tan express mousse for your body. This is my second year using it and it is so good! The face mist really gives amazing coverage and it’s only 4-5 sprays. Smells great. Love all of your videos.

Thank you so much... what would you recommend for face contouring using self-tan? Most self-tans are super warmed toned, in my opinion.
I’ve been self tanning for years and never could master the backs of my hands and tops of my feet. I recently purchased the Dripoo Extra Large Body Makeup Brush For Self Tanner on Amazon(or similar) for this purpose and it’s been a game changer. I use a mitt for body then use the brush with a small amount of my mousse self tanner and lightly go over my feet and hands. I find the brush is also good for elbows and knees. Finally…no weird dark spots…an even tan! I bought 2 of these brushes and use the other one for my body powder after in the spots you mentioned.

Love the powder recommendation! I would have never thought about doing that!! I have so many age spots I've had to put lotion on before applying self tanner so they don't get a lot darker. I've used Jergens mousse Instant Sun in dark bronze for years. I used to use the more expensive one( Vita Liberata ) until trying this. I tried many more and Tan AF but that really stuck to the age spots and didn't fade evenly. Funny I had an old round brush I would attempt to put the MIT on to tan the upper back😂😂😂 I'll get the longer body brush!!!!

Thanks for all the great tips! I’ve recently been using the Bondi Sands self tan drops in dark mixed with my body moisturizer and it works great. No self tanner smell and the tan lasts about 5-6 days on me.

Loving Tan is my favorite for years. I did try the newly hyped Coco & E one and although it did not have a tanning scent it was too orange for my skin. Loving Tan has been the perfect shade. I also use Dark.

Fabulous tips for tanning. I've been using St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse. Fantastic. You can purchase a mit to apply it with. It's available at Sephora & Shopper's Drug Mart here in Canada.

Hey Marnie! Thank you!! What do you use to help remove your tan to start a new one? I irritate my skin scrubbing so hard to get the old one off to start again.
I rarely fully remove it but if I want to I use that full exfoliating mitt I showed you.

I tend to skip actives the nights that I add the drops, or do it in the morning when I have less actives going on. No issues with breakouts at all!

First of all, even with a fake tan you need to be using at least an SPF30. A fake tan won’t protect you from sun damage. Second, you can still get natural color from the sun.

I love self-tanner, and the pat-it-on-before-rubbing-in step is something I needed. Question….how do you keep your tan from melting when wearing “clear” heels in the heat? I was dancing at a wedding last summer (shoes off, of course), only to look down and see my tan has disappeared on the top of my foot. Worse than that, the shoe was stained with tanner and it would not come off. Thank you!
There’s no guarantee, but I would use a friction block on your feet! Or put a layer of body makeup like the Vita Libersta body blur on the tops of your feet so that wears off and not the tan.
My problem is freckles. They tend not to tan evenly and I look splotchy after. Any suggestions? Great video
I have heard from friends with age/sun spots that sunless tanner just doesn’t work for them. They prefer the temporary body makeup.

I believe I have tried every self tan product under the sun...without no success. I have extremely dry skin and no matter how much I exfoliate and moisturize, the self tanner still leaves dark spots and enhances my scars. I find that Westmore beauty has the best body cover and it looks natural. Comes in several colors from very light to deep dark.
I’ve heard good things about that product.
This was a very good video for someone who likes self tanning. I’m not exactly super fair, (nor do I have olive skin) but I’ve never been interested in tanning. Usually, I’m uneven: darker arms, white legs, but I don’t wear shorts in public, so it doesn’t matter. But, you did a great job. As always.

You can use the mitt at the end when there’s very little left or apply the tanner with a body brush. Just avoid your heels and the bottoms of your feet.
I just watched this video. If you aren’t able to get the lotion to put on the next day, can you use regular body lotion?
Of course! The gradual tanner is just if you want to deepen/extend your tan.
Have you ever thought about doing a Kohl’s haul? If you don’t have a store near you they do have a good website. It’s just a thought. 🤓

That homemade back tanner is genius!!! You did not address the one thing I hate about self tanning - the smell! I think it’s stronger on some people - and I am one of the unfortunate ones. I swear sometimes it wakes me up at night! Have you ever found a solution for this ?
It just doesn’t bother me and once you rinse after application it’s over.
I’m the same way. I won’t use gradual tanners because i have to apply them daily and I can smell the fake tanner smell all day. I use bondi sands tanner before bed and rinse it off in the morning. Once a week in the summer. If I rinse it off then the smell is gone. So I only deal with the smell once a week while I’m sleeping .
How do you keep your palms from absorbing the tan cream? Even when I use the mitts I still get some tanning lotion on my palms. Especially on the wrinkled parts of wrists & thumb area. Maybe I need to practice more 😊
The mitt is waterproof on the inside, so the cream doesn't get through. But if you're still having issues, get some latex gloves to wear underneath!
I get my tan the old fashion way floating in my pool on a float. 🌞

Neutragena cream tube tanner. That’s all it takes. Not expensive. Gradually tans. Done.

Thank you for this step by step self tanning tutorial. Having never tried it myself what happens when you shower between tanning days? Does it not come off?
It does not come off because it’s not makeup-it actually triggers a reaction on your skin that becomes tan. It will wear off as your skin cells naturally slough off.

Marnie can you tell us how you have your hair stylist color or highlight your hair? I’m your age and starting to grey. It’s hard to know if I should have her color then highlight the roots. My hair is blonde like yours but not as blond
I’m happy to answer you but unless you have the same base color as me it’s not going to help. I don’t know my formula, but all she does is highlights every 6 weeks. I haven’t done actual color in years.
Jergans lotion is inexpensive and has always worked great for me.
I know you said it doesn’t take that long but wow. Have you used the gradual tanner alone? Does that work?
I use Jergens Natural Glow all year long (mainly on my legs) and then in the warmer months I add Banana Boat Summer Color to the Jergens. It goes on like moisturizer. I never have problems with streaking, staining, etc. I do allow it to dry while I put on makeup, dry my hair, etc. before putting on my clothes.
It does-very slowly but will work.

No it's clear and when you're done I would recommend rinsing the shower.

I use Mine Tan allover upper body becaouse I like the no smell slight coconut ? I don't smelle it anymore. Legs... I use Bali Body 1h express and also the newest Beauty by Earth from amazon it's clear and I use it like the next day step to even out. For me it's better to selftan in the morning . Those selftaners are very quick drying so I don't have to wait long. I tried Loving tan but the smell ... No. I don't know if still smells so bad becaouse I tried it long time ego. I also all the time use caster oil so I don't have big problem with dry skin . I self tan for more then 15 years so I was thinking I'm a pro but I think you are the pro now. I like to see diffrent techniques that people have.
I like Mine Tan too!! I think the best part about self tanning is there are multiple ways to do it and so many great products out there! It's come a long way!
This seems like so much work lol. I have two jobs and between work, trying to exercise daily, doing my skin care routine and chores, I just can’t imagine doing this lol. I like using a glowy body lotion when I need a bit of color though. Any favorites? Love your channel!

Sunless tan is pretty but the smell is so bad. I’d rather be white than smell horrible. Anyone else feel the same?

Yep! I decided to love myself a long time ago. I do use sunscreen but if I’m not in a pool or water at the beach, I just stay under an umbrella and wear a hat and sunglasses. I don’t want to burn or tan but I enjoy the outdoors so that’s what I do.
