One reason that wagstaff is not playable in DST is probably because he is basically your guide for summoning the celestial champion in a way

The reason why I believe Warly & Wormwood made it into DST and not the other characters is because their gimmicks transfer over to a multiplayer setting extremely well compared to the others.

Ngl wheeler would be such a fun glass cannon character to play as, her dodge ability and weapon would be super fun to use. Also her speed increase for how little her inventory is filled is such a neat concept.

Yeah they wouldn't be that interesting in don't starve together. Altho Wagstaff is in don't starve together but not as a playable character cuz he has a major story significance

Wagstaff is OP, imagine a full lobby of wagstaff if he was in dst, of course they had to remove him, but he isn't fully removed, instead he is a npc crucial to the dst story.

Technically, Wagstaff was added in the update that added DLC compatibility for Hamlet, so in a way he's also part of Hamlet :)

I feel like if they were gonna bring at least one more character back, it would make the most sense for it to be a shipwrecked one. A few years ago it wouldn’t have, but after all these expansions on the ocean I think a character built for doing all the sea faring stuff early and benefiting from sea bases would be cool.

I could see woodlegs being brought over at some point considering that they've added boats and water, and well his whole thing is boats.
Also i wish they had referenced wilbur with the sea monkeys. It'd have been a perfect little flavor quote for when you're cursed to be a monkey.

Warbucks is even still in ds being listed in the code as a "retired character" so people would be able to use him on pre existing worlds if they were him or use commands or mods to use him. Klei even said they "might" re-add him in the future if they can think of a more interesting direction for him.
