My great uncle Charlie Rudy was killed on Juno by a mortor. I never met him, but saw photos of a young handsome fellow in uniform riding a Harley as a dispatch rider. My mother said he had been beloved in the family and farming community near Balmoral Manitoba as a kind and thoughtful soul.
My grandfather, Alpha Kidd Leeson, was a NCO of a Bren gun platoon of the Queen's Own Rifles that landed near Bernier Sur Mer with the first wave on June 6th. They went on to fight in Belgium and Holland through to the end of the war. Thankfully he survived. I'm hoping to learn more about what he might have experienced.
T I think they deserve a video on their own, not just a mention. I'm doing Pegasus Bridge at the moment. The Canadian 1st Parachute Battalion are just a few miles away, so they'll get a well deserved mention after I have done the research.
Because they were or part of the Juno assault. Why were the British soldiers, who made up nearly a third of the force on Juno beach, not mentioned in this effort?
The 12. SS Pz. Div. consisted of experienced SS officiers, NCO and enthusiastic young recruits that had sufficient training. It was well equipeed with tanks, artillery. It is obvious that the Canadians did not perform well against it. Any other army would have had its difficulties with it as well. Why putting a lot of propaganda on it?
Because this, is history! There are some people, like myself, are interested in knowing. Learning and hoping to trace my father's foot steps, he rarely spoke about his experiences from when he served on active service with the Canadian Army (1944 - 1946). First Canadian Army insignia, I inherited his photo album. I'm 58 and for the first time, learning ww2 history. I very much appreciate this video, thank you John Jones.

My grandfather was a tanker with fort garry horse, in the duplex drives
Great series John. However I hoped you'd mention the Canadians siege of the German radar batteries at Douvres-La-Deliverande en route to the airport.
